My Gear - Pic Heavy
« on: September 09, 2007, 10:40:57 PM »
Hey guys.

I've been saying for ages that I needed to get some upto date photos of my gear, so I took the time out today and snapped a few.

Sorry about the quality of some of the photos, had to take them with my phone as my parents have the camera on holiday.

All the thumbnails are links to the fullsize photos.

Lets start with Guitars:

1st up, my 1998 Gibson LP Standard with nickel covered AIV Mules

Gordon Smith Graduate 60 with custom options and bookmatched headstock, with a Black Dog bridge, and a Riff Raff neck

The 'BrowCaster'. An originally black Japanese Strat that I found while at college. I stripped it, oiled it with Linseed Oil and sealed it with wax. Has a set of aged Mothers Milks in it. Thanks to Phil for the decals

Modified 1976 Fender Music Master. This now has a set of Slowhands in it, with a baseplate on the bridge pickup, and a push/pull tone control for series/parallel operation

1993 Fender Strat with Crawler/Irish Tour/Irish Tour in it. Has a push/pull volume control for coil tap of the Crawler

Late 80s/Early 90s Charvel Fusion Special. When I bought this guitar it had 2 stacked humbuckers side-by-side in the bridge position, with another in the neck. A friend of mine routed it out for me and it now has a Cold Sweat in the bridge and a Trilogy Suite in the neck.  Of the 5 positions on the switch, only 2 work; bridge pickup or neck pickup!

My Gould Telecaster. It has a Piledriver in the bridge and a custom made scratchplate made for this guitar by Jonathan at Feline.

Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet. I kinda bought this 1 on a whim while recording back in January. I may be sending the Mini humbuckers to Tim to re-wind, or I may sell it, I haven't decided yet.

Dean Exotica FM Electro Acoustic. Has a Shadow pickup system in it.

Yamaha RBX 270 bass. Still has the stock pickups in it. Used when I played bass in my current band, and for the occasional bit of recording. Currently for sale.

1 Purple/Midnight Blue Strat to follow, but I don't get that for a few more weeks yet. So pics will follow as and when they can :D

Next up is pedals:

This is my main gigging pedalboard:

The signal path is: HBE Medicine Bawl Wah==HBE Uno Mos Boost==Roger Mayer Voodoo Axe Fuzz/Buffer==BOSS TU2 Pedal Tuner==HBE CPR Compressor Retro==HBE Power Screamer Overdrive==G2D Custom Overdrive==HBE UFO Fuzz/Octave==WOBO 3-channel Bypass Looper==BOSS CE5 Chorus and BOSS TR2 Tremolo (Loop 1)==MXR Phase 90 (Loop 2)==Ibanez DE7 Delay/Echo (Loop 3)==HBE Dos Mos 2 channel Boost

I had a few extra pedals lying around, so I made up the next board for when I'm jamming with friends or for when I don't have floor space for my main board

The signal path is: Modified Vox V847 wah==Jap BOSS SD1 Super Overdrive==Modified Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer Re-Issue==EH Small Stone Nano==BOSS GE7 EQ

Just some other random pedals I have:

Top Row: Sharp FX 'Retro-Boost' Treble Booster/Marshall ED1 Compressor (FOR SALE)/EMMA Electronics ReezaFRATzitz OD/Distortion pedal
Bottom Row: HBE Big D OD/Distortion/Fulltone Fat Boost (FOR SALE)/ZVex Super Duper 2-in-1 Boost

Last but not least; Amps and cabs

Left Hand side, top to bottom:
Smokey Ciugarette box amp
1973 Carlsbro 50-Top 50w head
Marshall JCM 800 2210 100w Twin Channel amp head
Marshall 1936 2x12 with 2 Celestion G12T-75 speakers

Right hand side, top to bottom:
Matamp Little Rock 4w recording/practise amp
Marshall MG10CD practise amp
Squier practise amp
Orange AD30 single channel 30w head
Award Session 1x12 'Pilot' cab with Celestion Classic Lead 80 speaker

Unpictured is a 1970s Orange 4x12 cab with 2 Celestion Greenbacks and 2 McKenzie speakers.

That's all folks  :D

Thanks mate :)

Since I've had the Matamp, the MG and Squier have been gathering dust.

I was curious about stereo FX a few years ago, and found the Squier amp in a 2nd hand shop for £15, so thought it was worth getting :)

Very nice.

Did your family think you were crazy for taking your gear outside for the pics?

LOL

My girl friend would probably say: Oh you are finally taking those pictures for selling your stuff on ebay?

What I was wondering - as you don't see often a 2210 in forums, can you get that RATM sound with it? I think Morello is playing one of these, right?

Yeah, my sister asked me if it was pictures for Ebay :)

As for Tom Morello, he uses a 2205 at a very low volume level. Which when done on my amp, gives you quite a thin fuzzy tone. When the volume is cranked up, it's a very clear sounding amp :)

How's the Little Rock working out?

The Music Master looks great, how does it sound?
So many pickups, so little time

Hi Phil.

The Little Rock is working out great thanks. The switch on it 'arched' (as Jeff @ Matamp put it) so I had to replace the switch, but aside from that, not had any problems :)

The Music Master is a great little guitar now :) I've never been keen on SD Hot Rails, so the fact that that pickup is now out of it is a massive improvement. The Slowhands in it sound really good, very fat in the midrange but still with enough Treble to cut through

Errr, I haven't got any Tokai Strats

Although for all I know, the stripped 70s Strat could be a Tokai :D
