Amp for Uni?

I highly recommend the Fender Champ 600, you can get that PUNK sound out of it, when you crank it to the max with a boost pedal, after all the Epiphone Junior's design is based on the Champ 600, which is the defining classic original from the 40's. It has been used on countless classic albums, and it sounds amazing, for £130. They have just re-released them, and that's what I'll be taking to uni with me! good luck in choosing, all the best. Ben.

My mates has just bought one of those.  They certainly look nice. Inconsderate of him to bugger off and get married before he can tell me what it's like though.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

He'll probably have to sell it to fund new curtains or something soon anyway, so you might get a good price on it :P

It was a trade down from a Hughes & Kettner 100W monster.  He's also flogged his Ibanez to fund the wedding

Can't say much though, I nearly had to sell my Eggle to fund mine.

The Champ 600 has a fixed value silverface era tone circuit - so it is not quite the 1940s replica that people make it out to be.  It also takes pedals very well at about vol.3-4 - beyond that a pedal + the 12AX7 floods the little Champ with too much gain and the Champ becomes too bright and harsh (I put in a 12AT7 to calm this effect) causing the speaker to become farty - it can do nice crunch rock with the less powerful valve.

Removing a resistor (r21) disables the tone stack and makes the Champ into a loud(ish) beast that is just valve and speaker.  I am currently working out how to mount an on/off switch so the the tone stack can be turned on and off.

Can you not remove the r21 resistor and solder some wire into it's terminals.  You could the have a switch and a resitor of the same value in line on the wire.  So obvious that I should imagine it wouldn't work.

Sorry - my mistake - Yeh - that's would you would do - I meant that I am trying to work out where to put the switch without destroying the cosmetics of the amp.
