which rhoads v for 300UKP?
« on: September 13, 2007, 08:04:21 PM »
well, i dont mind spending a bit more i suppose... looking for something extra in my V collection. i want something very punk rock, so i'm planning to customise it somewhat.

no tremolo, bridge pickup only is ok.

i suppose the main factors are good playability and half decent woods. i've no idea about this style of V.

edit: no objection to 2nd hand goods at all

The only rhoads v's i know of without a trem are the Jackson RR5 which is out of your budget and the cheaper Jackson JS30RR, very plain looking but i found a limited edition one on ebay brand new which looks more punk rock.

hi crazyjoe,

thanks alot for the tip. was looking at this exact guitar a few minutes ago and thinking the same. is it any good though?

esp ltd, esp edwards, kramer, vintage, and (i think in the past) epiphone, all do something in this shape. ok, the esp edwards is probably going to be slightly too much, but if its that much better, maybe i could strecth.

the edwards is £533 before shipping or VAT from ishibashi - seems a bit much.
the LTD Alexi-600 looks like it's going for about £600 aswell which is painful.

had a Ibanez V in shop other day.
VERY well put together and playing guitar.
May look around for one as they are collectable but not expensive.

one we had in shop was not string-thru and def. older but this is close;

*Drools*

But yeah i remember the Alexi 600 by ESP and all that but they are out of your budget, i don't know how the JSRR plays but it is complete bottom of the line Jacksons so you can't expect much considering what your paying.

I'd say save up for a Jackson RR5 ($%&#ing quality guitar, seymour duncans, neck thru, string thru etc.) OR the Edwards version, i have seen people who are very pleased with their Edwards.

I say save for the RR5, the JSRR has the plug for the cable in the bottom fin, which just sticks into your leg and really pisses you off when your sat down, I haven't played any esp Vs so I can't comment on them

thanks for all the responses. maybe should have said i was after the offset V style specically.

i went out and tried loads of RR style Vs. seems to be not many available in the 'epiphone price/performance' bracket. a hole in the market for someone to exploit

Jackson RR30 - Very dissapointed. neck is as rough as a bad 90s squier, nasty

Vintage 'the reaper' - Actually this is a fine instrument considering the cost, quite alot better than the RR30. modern squier standard. wise choice for a metaller starting out i'd say

Jackson RR3 - pretty sweet guitar, quality something like a fender mexico. too bad about the floyd copy

ESP Ltd Alexi 200 - I would have stumped up the extra, but the guitar didn't speak to me. also, i'd rather not have a trem and the esp ltd one was pretty poor. rest of the guitar is decent enough

Jackson RR24 - Japan made, single EMG, real floyd. really really nice guitar, liked it alot. never seen one before.

Jackson RR1 - US made, not worth the extra money above the RR12 IMHO
