Tame my rig! Please.
« on: September 23, 2007, 04:27:40 AM »
Hey guys. I've got a slight problem, here it is: I've got a Marshall DSL 100 through which I'm running a lot of effects. The problem child of the bunch (i believe) is the Keeley modded Boss SD-1, which drives the front end. I have a noise suppressor on it that also runs into the front end instead of in the effects loop. Now, placing my one and only noise suppressor (a Boss NS-1) removes it from cutting the hum down in the loop, and consequently I have major hum when I don't play. Now, I know this isn't due to the distance because I've stood about 8 feet from the amp and I still get hum. The SD-1 creates such a great amount of feedback without the NS-1 engaged that it would be insane not to run it without it. I'm thinking I should buy a second noise suppressor. Is there a affordable and effective option that won't suck tone that could possibly eliminate the hum in the loop and feedback from the SD-1 driving the front end?

Hmm there wasn't a lot I could really think of so buying another noise suppressor might be your best choice. You defiently don't want to cheap out on noise suppressors so if the one you have now is working great then get that one....even if it does cost a lot.

I'm going to post it here, even though it's probably not in the "affordable" category.  I recently got one, and it stops an absolutely INSANE amount of feedback which I get at high volumes without the unit:

ISP Decomator ProRackG.

It's expensive (I got mine new from an American ebay seller for 200 quid with $50 off the shipping and a customs charge of £30 pounds), but works really really well. Apparently if you contact ISP directly, you may be able to buy one from them...

unless you're using it for the stereo effect you shouldn't need another one. You could just use one channel after the SD1 and one in the loop as far as I can fathom from the diagrams on the site.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

Yep, if you want a noise gate/supressor you really have one choice - ISP.  I got mine after having an MXR Gate suck the life out of my tone.  The ISP is very transparent and natural sounding.

maverick, I'm not quite sure what you mean about using one channel for the loop, the other for the SD1. Maybe I'm just daft and can't figure it out. Wouldn't be the first time.
