I got a Fiat Punto a year gone August for £675, it had 41,000 on the clock and came with 12 months tax/test. I've had somewhere in the region of £300 worth of repairs in that time, but it's all been stuff that could happen to any old car (exhaust, clutch, brake pads etc...). It's never broken down, runs fine and is very economical with the petrol.
Downside is that it looks like shite and doesn't have much poke.
Upside is that it only costs me around £130 to insure fully comp for a year, the road tax is cheap and I can leave it unlocked if I want since even the most desperate car thief won't waste their time with an R-reg Punto.
