harmonics dont seem to come out of my amp very well!

I recently noticed that Pinch Harmonics dont seem to sound very good through my proper amp. They are fine through the V-Amp 2 which I record through, nice and squeally  :twisted:, but when I use my normal amp (a Fender HRDx) they sound weak, not as full, they dont sustain very well, and just generally not nice! I thought valve amps were meant to be good for harmonics! What can I do to get better squeals etc from my amp, new valves maybe?

It's possible. The other thing to remember that you need gain to squeel!

yeah, even with loads of gain they seem to be cr@p and weak. I know its not me or my guitar as they sound amazing through my V-Amp 2 direct into the computer.

That's a bit strange.....celestions tend to scream better, at least for me. It could be a volume thing - what are they like loud?

Maybe it is your strings.

Try turning the mids down as well maybe.

Hmm I dont have a Celestion in in, its the stock Eminence I think. You could be onto something with the volume thing, unless the family are out I only get to play it really quiet. And Bucketshred, I dont think it could be my strings seeing as it sounds fine through the V-Amp 2.. turning down the mids?! Are you crazy  :P

tom, it has something to do with the gain structure of solid state gain stages. SS designs make it very easy to get pinch harmonics. Probably because the signal is just ouright clipping. Tube amps are much more organic and even when overdriven, they are still trying to keep your tone intact.

ahh right I understand. Guess I need a "metal" pedal for my metal stuff instead of boosting my valve pedal  :? well, I've said I'm not going to spend lots more on my guitar gear, I REALLY need to save for car insurance! But I want pinch harmonic squeally goodness!

i think you'd be better off with an attenuator..

all distortion pedals (not venturing into the botique market)  (and note i said distortion, not overdrive) that i came across SUCK

they may sound good from the get go, but after a while while you get used to it, you hear a buzz in the heights which you cant get rid off, they're noisy (the bad way) and generic.

if you ask me, you should get an attenuator or power brake for the amp, then CRANK it with your overdrive in the front, which will give you all the benefits of the valves and still keep the volume down to levels, that wont leave you camping on the couch

yeah I know what you mean. I think I might try to get a hotplate or cheaper alternative for my birthday..so I'll have to go without squeally goodness till november  :?
