Jerry Garcia?

Didn't he use high-output DiMarzios like Super 2s and SDS-1s?

Does it have those funny little narrow rectangular metal-covered Kramer pickups?  Seems a pity to change them.

Sorry, didn't mean to make you feel guilty!

Just seems a shame to modify something when it's so unusual (although the pickups may sound terrible, for all I know!   ).  That's one reason I don't buy vintage guitars.

I have a Hotrail humbucker in my customised telecaster, thats a single coil size and they are at least bright sounding and HOT! Probably they have several types you can pick nowadays, mine is quite old and they only just came out when i bought it.

You could always consider a custom rewind of the existing pickups by Tim. Will then look 'stock' but probably sound a lot better.

I was always fascinated by those aluminium necked Kramers - I know they have wood fillets running the length of the neck but how do they 'feel' compared to a standard wood neck?

That is a great idea and I think I just might. The aluminum neck Kramer are addicting! Unreal feel and sustain and tone. The pick ups are pretty think sounding for single coils..
