Phil - do you reckon the AII SM neck will get what I want?
I tend to agree with gwEm, actually, Dave - for me personally, I'd prefer just a little more push in the midrange for a really fat, singing tone. But I like the neck to be really sweet and warm, even bordering on the soupy.
It definitely has the clarity you want. The SM neck is bright enough that I find there's not enough difference in tone between it and the BD bridge in my V (actually, on reflection I'm not sure if the SM's too bright or the BD's too dark, but I'd like more contrast).
Which isn't to say it's not full-sounding, it's surprisingly powerful. I half-expected it to be a bit weeny compared with the BD, but that's not the case at all. I had to set it further from the strings than the BD to get the volume to balance.
I may be wrong, but I think you generally like a brighter neck tone than I do, so it might be just what you're looking for.
As for the other suggestions, I
love the Abraxas neck, and I'm a bit surprised it's not too hot for the Mule bridge, but I'm sure Ben's right. I seem to remember reading that it's based on an AIV version of the Emerald, or did I imagine that?
