putting a "shred" neck on a strat?
« on: August 06, 2005, 06:41:37 PM »
I have been thinkin for a while about putting a "shred" style neck on my strat copy..Will it even work, so long as the scale length and fret no's are the same? I wanna turn this thing into a right beast and I think the only way to go is with a reverse headstock Jackson style neck! I found this one off Axes r Us.. its a Mighty Might Jackson style "
the description is :
"JACKSON STYLE NECK WITH SHARK TOOTH INLAYS CUT FOR LOCK NUT with reversed headstock Specs: 22 frets; 25-1/2" scale length; clear satin lacquer finish; C shape; 12" radius; 1-11/16" nut; 2-3/16" heel"

Doesnt look too bad for £69.. although its sold out at the minute, will it work?

Thanks!

It'll only work if the join is the same.  You're best emailing them and asking if it'll fit your particular guitar.

Most aftermarket necks are based on Fenders. If you get one from Warmoth, I'm sure it'll fit. The scale and number of frets of this one are the same. Still, I would check if it fits the neck pocket, first.

Just take off the neck and measure the neck pocket. You'll need the length, width and height. (The length isn't that important though.) Use a slide ruler if you have one.

Mighty Mite's used to do Fender replacement stuff, so I have a feeling that it will be a straight fit, especially since it has the Fender scale length.  However, even if it is made for a Fender, the pockets do vary a bit in tightness.  I have three Teles and they all have a slightly different fit (don't ask me how I know   ).

The only other thing to check is that it has a curved neck end (teles have straight, strats have curved).
