HOLY shiteeee.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!
Oooooooh it looks amazing.
The Doc looks perfect. As does rorschach and Comedian.
It all looks sooo damn perfect - I really hope they don't $%&# it up.
I'm also really happy they kept it in the 80s, there were lots of rumours about putting it in the present day - But it just wouldn't work...
-
I take it you've seen this new artwork for the original Silk Spectre?

Good choice of the Smashing Pumpkins for the soundtrack, don't recognize the song though. I'm interested in this, even though I've never really heard much about the comic (I've heard of it though).
In other news- trailer is out for the new terminator film starring Christian Bale, I had low expectations, but it kinda looks badass. trailer (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810025211/trailer)

yeah i saw that, gotta love the vargas styling!! -
not sure how i feel about the new terminator films yet, i quite liked the series even with its flaws... terminator 3 has made me nervous and i am glad they ignored it when making the series

It all looks sooo damn perfect
Except for the blatant superpowers :x :(

I'm not as cynical about it as I was.
Rumour has it that there'll be a "Tales of The Black Freighter" DVD available at the same time...

Yeah, that's what I read aswell.
It's a shame Zack couldn't include it in the movie, apparently it would've been too long.
-
True. It's kinda pointless because "Black Freighter" mirrors the events of the main narrative, and separated from them, it's probably pretty pointless. Maybe some kind of Ultra-DVD edition in the future...
-
I disagree, I'm afraid; to me this looks like one more reason why Alan Moore would be justified in shooting Hollywood agents on sight. Offensively-obvious CGI, apparently superhuman levels of strength and agility from the main characters... I've been let down by Moore adaptations so many times now that I'm no longer capable of righteous indignation, but I can still just about summon up sadness.
I'd be more likely to go see "Hellboy II"; even if it's a total stinker, it won't cause the same seismic wedgies to my fondest comic memories that "Watchmen" is likely to produce, although the first film was so dull the only memory I have of it is walking out afterwards. Why does everything need to be turned into a movie? What's so wrong about accepting that some stories can't be condensed into two or three hours and directed by someone who cut their teeth making MTV videos for dire industrial bands. Would that be so bad?
PS: "The Dark Knight" was pretty great though.

i think you have to get over the fact that a movie will always be different, they always change something and it always pisses somebody off. i like the graphic novel and i am looking forward to seeing it in film, and desperately hoping it works. for me, even if the film ends up really bad, the source material will still be what it always has been... but i am glad they are trying to make a film of it even if it does fail, somebody has to get it right one day :)
i think they did a really good job on V for Vendetta, even with a lot of changes the story still has most of its original message and is a damn fine film to watch... lets just not mention LXG :?
now whilst we are on the subject of bad movie adpatations i finally got around to reading the book of I am legend last night. What a great book!!!
I must admit i liked the film despite its dodgy monsters and will smithisms, it was an alright watch.... but now i know the source material....... WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!!!!!! :gib: The film doesnt even deserve to be called an adaptation of that book... its a completely different story

If it's changes that don't make much of a difference to the story then fair enough. I can live without Glorfindel and Tom Bombadil in LOTR if I switch my "I am a massive JRR geek" brain off, but the no superpowers thing in Watchman is absolutely vital ad they have folks punching chunks out of brick walls? Booooooooooooooo.
-
its because thats what sells... superpowers and all the toys that go with them
after thinking about i am legend all day i can see why they didnt go for the more traditional vampires of the book... i just wish they had more imagination than what they came up with!!
the addition of superpowers in WM lacks imagination too but it may be a factor which makes this appeal more to the mainstream so i can see why they have done it.... its just the same as tom bombadil... you have to put it aside and go watch the film anyway... it might turn out alright!!
-
I think that some graphic novel adaptations work.
I quite liked the adaptation of J. O'Barrs The Crow (obviously, not the subsequent films...)
-
It might turn out like the Dark Knight though. The trailers for TDK showed a lot of action, lots of explosions and fights. But the actual movie had the three story acts winding around each other, with a superb cast and script, it was AWESOME.
Same might be true here, baring in mind i haven't read the original graphic novel, the action is to lure in the 'normal' cinemagoers, only to make them sit through a deep story with kickass characterisation.
-
I quite liked the 300, which was Zack's last film. If he puts in as much thought into this as he did into the 300, it should be pretty good tbh.
Dark Knight was epic.

Is Dark Knight worth watching if I've never really been into batman and dont know the storyline at all?

YES.

ok cool I'll probably go see it in the week then (it is out now I presume? ).. I only really wanted to see it because heath ledgers joker does actually look really $%ing good.

YES.
Watch Batman Begins first. It's not as good as TDK- but really sets the scene. Think of it as a prelude to the undiluted AWESOME that the dark knight will be.
Oh and i want to see it at an imax cinema, meant to be freaking sweet.

The best cinema we have here is Vue in northampton. A fiver with student discount, huge screen, great surround sound and the seats are really comfy and they recline! So much better than odeon.
*downloads batman begins*

Sorry, but this trailer just underscores the question: Just because you can do a thing, does that mean you should?
-
the trailer really got me excited - especially seeing it on the big screen before the dark knight!!
-
Sorry, but this trailer just underscores the question: Just because you can do a thing, does that mean you should?
And it also answers the question...
Yes.

I just love the fact that he asks this question & now we see the avatar :D

I preferred Batman Begins but I think it might be because that one ended on a lighter, more positive note. I found the end of TDK a bit daunting but I guess it's a good thing, adds to the darkness of the tone, gives a good sense of foreboding.
But I'm not going to go off on one of my Batman waffling sessions, I'll start another thread maybe, hehe. Suffice to say even though I didn't like TDK as much as begins, it's still the best film I've seen in a long time, and Heath Ledger (RIP, damn shame!) did the best job anyone could ever do on the Joker, he was amazing! :D
