Tom,
I reckon that set would go down a treat at most venues - it's a good mix from all sorts of eras and genres. I've always wanted to play "Creep" live, but it hasn't happened yet.
Otherwise, great stuff everybody. Keep it coming !
-
Yeah it goes down well in pubs/clubs but is pretty boring to play when you dont like a lot of them :(
-
I predict a riot classic
-
I predict a riot classic
Oh yes !!
Strangely, when I first joined the band, we did it without backing vox, and it just didn't sound right. Now, with 2 backing vox in the choruses, it sounds immense.

I hope you had a good singer????!!!!!

If I was in a covers band, that's the set list we'd have! Centerfold!!! Perfect!!!
-
We set out from the start to play songs that we enjoy playing as well as being popular with our audiences. We've also deliberately avoided most of the old standards like Mustang Sally, Proud Mary etc. It's been hard work but we're really enjoying ourselves as well as getting plenty of gigs.

Good luck doing the backing vox with the guitar riffs in the chorus, that is if you have to do backing vox. They are incredibly syncopated to the guitar riffs. Took me weeks of practice to get it right !
-
You ever heard the Kaiser's drummer singing backing vocals live?
He's usually flat and it sounds awful :(
-
Hunter... you're a good player, you deserve better.;)

Thanks thanks all, ohlala ... I am flattered!
It's weird, because actually with these songs I learnt to play guitar properly (i.e. I only focused on soloing before, but I have become a decent rhythm player).
We might be doing some more Aerosmith/ACDC/Metallica/Zeppelin soon, as we had a new singer taking over these days who has more of a rock range ... I am quite looking forward to be doing more soloing/showing off but also really enjoy delivering a tight rhythm and ambience base... kind of a grown-up thing maybe ...
-
I'd love to play in a covers band, seems a good laugh. Have to say I'm enjoying writing my own material acoustically by myself, but rocking out to Alive by Pearl Jam sounds like too much fun.
-

imo its fun for a bit but when you've done a load of gigs you get bloody bored of the same songs all the time. The only time I really enjoyed it was when we were having a good jam when soundchecking
-
Bizarre. I'd hate to play original stuff. I've always wanted to be in covers band, never an original band!

Idd.
Infinite songs which you know are all better than anything you write yourself.
-
I just didnt feel any sense of accomplishment or achievement playing covers all the time (except when I learned the solo in My Sharona :P). Fun for a bit but it doesnt push you enough, not playing the stuff people want to hear in pubs anyway.
-

Nice one TF, I'll be checking some of those out. We're always looking out for new songs to do, and we are very much in the same genre as (the mighty) Doppelganger.
-
You'll need two good guitarists to pull some of those tracks off ;)

We're in luck there thankfully !

Thought you might be!
-
Dave, are you still doing YC/DC, or is that over now?
-
Mr bands set list is wimpy compared to that little lot.I can't be bothered to type it all out though. I'll see if I can get our "writer of sets" to email me one.
-
I've always played in bands that did mostly originals but threw in some covers to pad the set out when needed. These were mostly just songs we loved to play rather than carefully chosen to appeal to punters:
So, all the covers I've done by each band I've been in (in chronological order):
Remedy
Guns N' Roses - It's So Easy
Rose Tattoo - Remedy
LuNcHbOx
Anti-Nowhere League - For You
Bad Religion - Lookin' In
Green Day - Basket Case
Radiohead - Creep
Sex Pistols - Bodies
Sex Pistols - Seventeen
Therapy? - Totally Random Man
The Wildhearts - Caffeine Bomb
BushPilots
Baby Chaos - Mental Bruising For Beginners
Baby Chaos - Rearrange You
D-A-D - Helpyourselfish
Saigon Kick - All Around
Saigon Kick - Killing Ground
Therapy? - Turn
The Wildhearts - Nita Nitro
Rocket69
The Almighty - Addiction
Backyard Babies - Highlights
Backyard Babies - U.F.O. Romeo
D-A-D - Evil Twin
D-A-D - The Road Below Me
Demolition23. - Hammersmith Palais
Foo Fighters - The Sign
The Lee Harvey Oswald Band - Rocket 69
Saigon Kick - Feel The Same Way
We never played all of the covers at any one particular gig though.
EDIT: Oooh, forgot to include the purely covers acoustic thing I did with a mate for a while... but then we never got as far as gigging
Unnamed Acoustic Thingy
The Beatles - Norwegian Wood
D-A-D - Laugh N' A Half
Green Day - Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)
Green Day - Macy's Day Parade
Levellers - Another Man's Cause
Levellers - The Boatman
Magnum - The Spirit
Marillion - Sugar Mice
New Model Army - Marrakesh
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Think that was it...
-
It's cool to see that Saigon Kick and D-A-D stuff in your setlists, Muttley! :D
-
I've just canceled a rehearsal for tomorrow night. I was contacted by someone on forming bands. He sent me some of his own songs to learn, i had a go for an hour a night and they are awful. So instead of suffering it I'm just not going to bother. One had the lyrics, you a slag your a whore your a bitch ect ect. That would go down like a lead balloon in most pubs. No idea how to put a song together whatsoever either.
Afghan Dave lets put our own band together!! 8)
