Lovely

Mmm, what colour is that?

Mmm, what colour is that?
I'm really not sure Philly. I think it must have been gigged a lot in smoky venues as under the pickguard it is almost a butterscotchy sort of colour. Will take some pics next time the guard is off.
It's the 70's tele that I nearly sold a few months ago - I think you were one of a few who suggested on not selling it, thanks for the advice as I would have regretted it.
-
I have this picture to keep him on his toes!!
-
OK, I may as well throw in this one again:

I'll bite.
Never have liked them, please stop ;)
I am generally happy to keep quiet about it though.
The nearest thing I like is a Washburn Idol type thing, and thats only similar in the top horn.
-
I'll bite too. Here's my absolute favourite and #1 guitar, also the one in my avatar. My incredibly awesome Fender Custom Shop Tele. Stick that in your fusebox, Roo!

Ooooh, I do so love Telecasters!
Tele, tele, tele, tele, tele!!!
BKP should drop the rest of their range and concentrate ONLY on replacement Tele PUPs.
(enough baiting? I am something of a master...)
Mark.
-
I was never much of a one for tele's but I am warming to them now...but IMHO they need contouring to be nice and comfy...and the scratchplates do look like they were an afterthought - why don't they follow the horn contour properly?! :( )

I think that's a part of their charm.

That is awesome Dave - have you got two?
-
Nope, just the one. I could only just afford this one by selling/trading in four other guitars. Bloody glad I did though ;) I can't describe how superb this guitar is!

You should have asked for some money off. That guitar has chips and dings all over it...

i need to get a tele.

You all have girly-teles, and thus fail.
-
i reckon that needs a scratchplate or finish that matches the splawn faceplate
-
You all have girly-teles, and thus fail.
bah, a real man doesn't need a pointy headstock and a bridge humbucker to feel secure about his sexuality.
thats why the true alpha-male telecaster connoisseur would play one of these:
-
nah never liked the paisley fenders
-
nah never liked the paisley fenders
speaking seriously, me neither - however i do quite like the blue flower ones. i don't know if they were also available in vintage times.
-
ROCK! I loves teles I do.

I really like the one in the middle there!
Did you not build some of these Philly?
-
As a guitar shape, if a strat is a hot bird, a les paul a wise grandfathery type, an explorer a 6 foot 5 17 stone prop foward, it sort of puts me in mind of a senile old drunk that cant stop shiteting himself.
Or something someone made from a table and bits of a robin reliant.
I hate teles. And I'm not gonna be silent any more!

No no no, the Tele is the wise grandfathery type.
The Les Paul is a fat curly-haired middle-aged bloke like Gary Rossington or Warren Haynes. :P
-

Did you not build some of these Philly?
:D "Build" is far too grand a term, I just bought a lot of parts, modified them a little bit here and there and put them all together. That's the two solidbodies, the Thinline is pretty much stock.
-
I may as well join in the Tele fest:
-
Very classic Mr 38th :)
50s Mexican Classic?
-
Well spotted Dave. I set her up a few days ago and she plays very well. She won't be in the same league as yours but then again I got her for £200.00 from an idiot I used to know.
-
-
come on fernando... time to do something with it!! ;)
-
Someone on HC just posted this clip of their tele doing teh b4r00talz. I think it sounds great http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=630564&songID=6831147
The twang kinda works for that kinda thing somehow, makes it sound even dirtier. Needless to say, my gas for one has returned.

Thought I'd got it right ;)
Bargain price, and I'm sure it's a cracker :)

I've just added Dave's old Baja to the Tele arsenal....
-
come on fernando... time to do something with it!! ;)
Yeah, there is something pulling my feet on night, should be that body
-
It doesn't look "old" to me Philly. I really need another tele now. Wish I had never started this stupid thread!
-

Yeah, there is something pulling my feet on night, should be that body
Sorry Fernando - I don't get it. Maybe it was lost in translation?
-

Well yeah, "old" shiny Baja as opposed to "new" battered Relic  . I didn't know how else to describe it.
It's a bit too shiny though, isn't it... ? :?
-
The only Tele I've got is this which I use for slide. One of these was my first guitar.......anything as luxurious as a Squier would have been heaven to me!
Since the pic was taken I've fitted a P90 in the bridge.
-
Yeah, there is something pulling my feet on night, should be that body
Sorry Fernando - I don't get it. Maybe it was lost in translation?
Well, here in Brazil if you do something bad (or kill someone :D) we use to say that he/she will pull your feet while you're sleeping for the rest of your life

I HATE TELE'S!
And for one reason only, principal.
They were meant to be cheap guitars, but they still cost the same as a damn strat!
Oh it irritates me so...
-
No Adam, not another Tele hater. Mine was cheap-£200.(though like I said, it was bought from a complete idiot so that perhaps doesn't count). I know what you mean though - Teles used to be cheaper than Strats but there is no difference now between equivalent models but even so, I still love em.It is not the guitars fault that the marketing guys have made things this way.
-

Yeah, but you're going back nearly 60 years, and they were meant to be "cheap" in relation to the archtop, hollow-body jazz guitars which were around at the time.
They weren't meant to be cheap compared with other solidbody guitars... oh wait, there were no other solidbody guitars then.
Unless you were around in 1950, I think maybe it's time to stop holding that grudge.
-
What I don't understand is this:
All this Roo Baiting, and no Roo...
I wonder if he's out trying Teles?
-
That'll be it.
-
-
That's exactly what I was thinking xD
-
Same here, in fact I was even feeling sorry for him, a poor misrepresented individual with sincerely held beliefs held up to ridicule by his peers...
... and then he posted a further balanced "Roo tele comment" in another forum...
So, carry on chaps...
-
yeah maybe one day he will learn to love the tele
-
come on fernando... time to do something with it!! ;)
I know that I should try to it myself, but I just ordered a Warmoth Tele neck..
Wenge with Macassar Ebony fingerboard from Unique Choice and matching headstock, fatback, SS6105, mother-of-pearl inlays, not even Roo can dislike this
-

What a gorgeous looking ( and brilliant feeling /sounding ) guitar you have there !
( I am not just saying that because it is just like mine - honest ) ....
-
Oh the pain / conflict !
Roo has been so genuinely helpful to me on the 'EVM12L' thread - but I just LOVE Telecasters ! For me , they are the purest and most intimate of guitars. Try playing a Tele at high volumes through a clean channel without your effects rack - and we'll soon find out who has been practising lately ...

Yeah, I'd love to see the Tele-haters post some clean Tele clips on youtube!
I've got to admit I sound a bit scr@ppy playing Tele's but it's only because there's nowhere to hide, I think they do make you a better player. Gotta love this playing:-

Lovely clip there :)
I also like the stuff that Jim Campilongo does on his Tele ( hard to believe he uses 9-42s ) - and of course the truly stellar Telecaster playing of that understated hero Albert Lee. Let us also not forget the minimalist but genius style of good ol' Wilko Johnson .
They all prove ( for me ) - that the Telecaster's greatest attribute - is that it conveys exactly what you bring to it as a player, nothing more , nothing less. :)
-
Nicely put!
-
I know I'm repeating myself, but if we're talking Tele players I must mention Roy Buchanan. I saw him live in 1985 and although you couldn't imagine anyone less cool or rockstar-ish, the sheer power of the guy's playing was just unbelievable.
That, to me, is how an electric guitar should be played - wringing out every sound you possibly can through the way you bend, squeeze and attack the strings.
-
I can't wait to play my Teles through the Martamp Deluxe I have on order. Pure Fender-driven class :)
-
I have a gig tonight and I have my Tele back after loaning it to a friend to tide him over. I have re strung it, cleaned it up and set it up and I am going to use it tonight at a gig with my dear old Strat in reserve.
-
Nice one Mr 38th :)
Let us know how it goes :)
-
Played a few teles yesterday, I really like how they feel especially the ones with a thick-ish maple neck :) Much nicer than strats for me - for some reason I've always had the impression teles are clunkier, more uncomfortable and harder to play but to me it feels like a strat thats done properly  Got me gasing for one again even though I'm not sure if I could get on with the sound - have heard loads of good clips of one with a SD Lil 59 in the bridge which makes me want one though :P Would love one like phillys black bound tele.
edit - heres a clip of one with an SD Lil 59 bridge through an 808 and recto, sounds well nice http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/4/16/1868857/Exafro%20Jam.mp3
-
I'm half wanting another one, but my mustang covers the two single coil sound very well, and my humbucker tele is perfect as it it. I love fenders! None of my guitars have twang, only a thick bite. Excuse me while i go annoy the neighbors.
-
Someone mentioned that there has been no sign of Roo yet, maybe he is a little concerned by the title of the thread!!! :?
-
I can't wait to play my Teles through the Martamp Deluxe I have on order. Pure Fender-driven class :)
Tell me more! Is this going to be a new model, is it based on the 57 Deluxe?
I'm saving up for perhaps a Goldstar but this sounds very interesting.
-

That's a good shout Philly, I was actually looking for the Roy Buchanan Soul Dressing clip but it seems to have been removed from YT. That is a great clip, Buchanan is the Tele master!
-
I think Roo is probably watching this and laughing at our feeble attempts to wind him up. I have no issue over other peoples likes and dislikes. I am no fan of Flying V's purely for aesthetic reasons. They sound great and lots of people love em but I wouold rather hear one than [play or own one. Meanwhile I used my Tele last night for the first time at a gig for weeks and she played and sounded wonderful though I did not that the jack socket had worked loose and caused a bit of crackling and drop out and so I swapped for the Strat and I shall have a look at her today if I get time.

I was thinking about that the other day - guitars that really wind me up, rationally or irrationally.
Burns is a manufacturer that springs to mind - I can't abide them aesthetically. Mosrite too, to some degree.
-
All Gibsons wind me up - I live in a Gibson free zone, which is why I don't play in a band or go into guitar shops (that and i'm shitee) 8)

OK you can stop repeating yourself Philly - I'd heard of him, obviously, but that was it... I've just done a bit of youtubing... now I need to do a bit of Roy Buchanan collecting...
-
Good man! Start with the early stuff....
-
And actually, for that tone, if it's anything like mine, what you want is Blackguards in that Baja of yours...
Or, funnily enough, a nice dark sounding mahogany Explorer with MQs in... (and the gain turned down a bit more than for the tele) - that's almost closer with the amp settings I'm using this afternoon.
-
And actually, for that tone, if it's anything like mine, what you want is Blackguards in that Baja of yours...
It's a possibility - although I think the first mod on Badger might be a replacement bridge. Not a modern six-saddle one or anything like that (I've got them on my other Teles), but an "improved vintage" one from Glendale or Callaham.
-

Do you think that would make that much difference?
I seem to be coming across lots of folk talking about this. And also strat bridges - I've caught myself pondering the BKP strat bridge assembly...
But I find myself thinking "how much difference would it actually make?"
-
Do you think that would make that much difference?
In a word, No. But the gnarly welded corners on the Fender bridge annoy me (I'm too used to modern Teles).
And although I'm not that fussy about perfect intonation, the Glendale, Callaham or even Wilkinson bridges would fix that too.
I'm not so bothered about Strat bridges as both my current ones are hardtails, but for the "new" one I'm going to get a modern two-point trem - Gotoh or the Fender US Std unit. Might get a Callaham steel block though...
-
Might get a Callaham steel block though...
Have a word with Tim about the BK unit, steel block, vintage correct bent steel saddles. It's about the same price as the Callaham but made in the UK.
-
Wow! Bare Knuckle does bridges? :o
Didn't know...
Also a vintage tele? thinking in this:
But quite expensive about US$150 non-reliced, if you want relic + US$25 :?
-
I have a Callaham replacement on my Baja - it does increase the sustain a bit and is more comfortable to play, but i',m not sure it was £99 better.
PS also have a bakelite pickguard - now that was really throwing too much money about :x
-
I think BKP just do a strat unit at the moment Fernando, I understand it's GBP120.
-

I'm probably looking at a modern 2-point bridge at the moment, Phil, which is why is was thinking (too far ahead! ) about replacement blocks only.
But I haven't even got the Strat body yet, so a vintage 6-screw trem remains a possibility.

I was thinking of doing that mod too  . The single-ply plastic looks a bit cheap. But no rush...

I'm having a 5E3 Deluxe with Power Scaling in a pine cab, covered in tweed with oxblood grille cloth and a leather handle. Proper retro style. :)

Funny analogy. This is how I see it: The strat is a rich-kid college boy who hangs out with the football team but has no dissernable talent or creativity. The tele is his older brother with down's syndrome that he's too embarassed to tell anyone about.
The Les Paul is a hot lookin' fat chick. The SG is her rebelious little sister.

Callaham saddles on my AM strat are nothing short of a revelation. I can't say how a callaham bridge plate would affect a Tele, but the saddles on my Strat have made the attack so much more round and...erm...stratty. I suppose after playing the same guitar for 12 or 13 years you notice the subtle differences more....

Sounds nice. 12AT7 or 12AX7.? Celestion Blue or Jensen Alnico?
I quite fancy a Princeton Reverb but I'm sure Martin could produce something better built than the new reissue for £700.
But to be honest I need to stop talking / thinking about amps until I can actually but one :(
-
One 12AT7 and one 12AX7, same as the original, and a Celestion "Heritage" Greenback. I don't like Jensen speakers and the Blue is crazy money!
-

Thanks for that - you're starting to get me interested (I have a Fender Japan 62 RI Strat that is stock in this area, and seems to be doing ok, but you're never quite sure, are you?)
Have you just replaced the saddles, or the block as well? I've heard people swearing blind that the block makes a big difference...
Not sure how much a bakelite scratch-plate is going to help tone on the tele though Elliot/Philly, unless you replace the plastic knob on the switch as well? :D I hear what people say about the Baja scratchplate, and it really seems to offend some, but it doesn't seem to worry me at all - of course, I've never seen a bakelite one close up!

I just replaced the saddles but I think I'l' change the block eventually as well. I'm not sure you would get the same benefit on your 62 RI Strat, I think the problem with the AM standards was the cast saddles wheras yours should be vintage style?
The cast saddles probably work for some styles but they just took away a bit of the classic strat vibe for me, both aesthetically and sonically. The attack of the notes is much more classic strat vibe now.
The callaham saddles are very good quality and may be an improvement for you but I suspect the block would do more. It does seem expensive but I think bridge material / quality plays such an important role in your tone it could well be worth it.
-
A Bakelite scratchplate does not affect the tone - I bought it as a GAS consoling purchase having just paid the tax man a vast chunk of my life savings. It is by all accounts, unnecessary :D
It does look slightly better, but only slightly.
-
Not sure how much a bakelite scratch-plate is going to help tone on the tele though Elliot/Philly, unless you replace the plastic knob on the switch as well? :D
It's not all about the tone though!
I really hate those single-ply plastic scratchplates and the way they warp all over the place, I had a Strat with one once and it made me cringe every time I saw it. If I ever bought a Clapton Strat I'd bin the scratchplate immediately and replace it with a gold anodised one.
I'll probably get bakelite for the Badger, or I may totally change the look and put a torty plate on it.
As for the Callaham stuff, I'm prepared to believe the hype about the block - after all it is where the strings are anchored, and it's a big hefty chunk of metal (I worked out over the weekend that a trem system is about a pound heavier than a hardtail!). I'd consider the saddles too, but I'm also interested in KTS Titanium (a bit more expensive). And there's always Graph Tech as a cheaper option - I've used them before and like them lot.
-
Following Mr Tim suggestion, just ordered a pair of Piledriver for the body I've show you (http://216.211.140.132/Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys/cool01.gif)

Heres one roo may actually like:

I want it :P
-
Heres one roo may actually like:
WOW if anyone doesn't like that the looks of that guitar they are just confused or misled. (unless they're just really opposed to CBS-style headstocks which is perfectly understandable)
-
I like that one. I prefer the headstock like that, just cannot stand the small small one
-
I think the shape of the tele is his major quarrel. Mine's the bridge, the control plate and the neck joint (aside from the thin, edgy sound). So yeah I like that one more than most tele's. But it's still a tele.
-
Someone on HC is selling a parts tele made from Kavanagh Customs body/neck and has bkp piledrivers in it for £250.. I really want to buy it but I dont know if I'll even like the tele sound and I'm off to uni in a few weeks so wont play it til xmas as I'm not taking more than 1 guitar.
-
I've always wanted a Telecaster, however i'm not really up to scratch on my Fender knowledge so i have no idea what's good and what's not. Plus i always seem to GAS for them when i have no money so i never end up trying/buying any.
-
let go crazy!
-
Prince's guitar
-
Is it seriously? It does look like something Prince would play. I love the man but he has terrible taste in tone.

Roo is right, even the coolest people in the world look like doofuses when you give them a telecaster.

No I'm not a dragonforce fan, and all of those tele players look like complete ****s, so you're just proving my point even further.

Alright lets play devils advocate....Doofus with a Tele (http://media.canada.com/0784bb05-ab0e-4bd2-aec9-4ccd77e2817b/sun0204e-mellencamp19.jpg)(although love his music..not a good shot)

They all look like doofuses. But take the tele away and they don't.

I'm glad you're not a Dragonforce fan, I hold you in high esteem (apart from your Tele blind spot) and didn't want to have to re-assess that opinion.
Having said that, saying Jimmy Page, Richie Kotzen and Albert "Iceman" Collins look like complete ****s (with Teles or without) is totally taking the piss.

I only posted the Dragonforce picture because they're non-tele users and they're also "doofuses"

Aww, that's one of the nicest things that's been said to me in any format lately!
Having said that, saying Jimmy Page, Richie Kotzen and Albert "Iceman" Collins look like complete ****s (with Teles or without) is totally taking the piss.
Ahh you see, therein lies the true hideous power of the telecaster! It can take a great, and turn them into a **** instantly! :D

But in all seriousness, what was expected after a topic like this???

How did I KNOW you were going to say that?!?!

Look, it's not MY fault that telecasters look sh**. It's not MY fault that people who play them are made to look like ****suckers, whether they are or not!
For what it's worth, that top horn CANNOT affect tone in such a way that no other guitar could make the same noises. That bridge just looks like complete arse, and the stupid stupid stupid plate for the control knobs should have been shot at birth, just like Paul Mctw@tney.
Make a telecaster without the stupid bulbous top horn, the bridge plate thing and that hideous control knob job, and you MIGHT get away without looking like a ****muncher. In the mean time, if you own a guitar with any of those aspects, sorry to break it to you, but you look like a ****er when you play it.
:/
Roo

That's an out-of-the-blue rant, Roo. A bit tired and emotional, by any chance?

You're right, it's perfectly reasonable to say that I, too, should have been shot at birth. But the reasons are completely different. I, for one, didn't come up with the frog chorus...

I really like the song, but I have to admit David St Hubbins doesn't even look out of place.
-
i think the song is pretty good, though a bit cheesy :)
the classic part for me is the documentry stuff - pure spinal tap all the way through!
how many superstrats were used in the making of the track? 30+?
my favourite bit is the vincent neil quote:
"we don't just sit back in limousines and count our money each night"
i'm sure we remember this other metal charity effort:

Bloody hell, I'd totally forgotten that! It's really strange seeing Dave Gilmour in that context - and I didn't enjoy his solo much to be honest. Loved the Iommi/Blackmore bit at the end though.
-
I don't remember any of that.
But I suspect I may never forget them now...

Hey! We've gone a bit off-topic here, I just watched the two vids, and I couldn't see a single telecaster, plenty of ****s, but no telecasters...
-
No, it's totally on-topic! Roo kindly said we were all ****s, hence:
:band1:
Who cries for the children?
I do
Some time in the night
When you're feeling the cold
Take a look at the sky above you
Those are faces in the light
If the story were told
They are calling you, calling you
Yeah
We are magic in the night
We are shadow, we are light
We are forever you and I
We're ****s
We're ****s
We can be strong
We are fire and stone
And we all want to touch a rainbow
But singers and songs
Will never change it alone
We are calling you, calling you
We're the beating of a heart
The beginning we're the ****t
Forever we will shine
Yeah
We're ****s
We're ****s
We're ****s
We're ****s
[Guitar solos]
We are magic in the night
We are shadow, we are light
We are forever you and I
We're ****s
We're ****s
We're ****s
We're ****s
We're ****s, yeah
We're ****s
We are shadow, we are light
We're ****s
We are magic in the night
We're ****s, oh yeah
We're ****s
We're ****s
We are magic in the night

yes, that bit is good - an brian may's contributions are really outstanding... as i say, its my favourite version of smoke on the water.

And yes, it is a word, especially when I use it.
And there's no such thing as a 'nice tele'.
Unless you're a fan of looking like a tw@, that is...
Roo
-
I'm with Roo on this point - "yes, it is a word, especially when I use it..." - sound use of vocabulary (possibly not grammatically correct use of vocabulary, but it gets the job done :D), you just have to be a little bit careful about who's around when you use it...
He's a little misguided in some of his other assertions, though

thats funny... i just ordered a korina body blank with the view to making a tele with a flamed tazzy blackwood top,... maybe with one of those mac ebony neck blanks i have been flashing about. I have a nicely flamed set of tazzy. strangely both tazzy and koa are very much alike, yet both grow on relatively remote islands

i suppose i might need to do a tele as a bit of a detox from that fanned fret bari i have been working on ;)
and i have some rather nice tazzy blackwood thats quite small and mght not do much more than a tele

on that pic the bookmathc is tamanian blackwood andthe headtplate is koa,,, other than teh darker streaks you see in tazzy they are a pretty good match

Are you building something to him??
Isn't that pasley Tele you said?? Or that dual humbucker that you showed to us?
-
well we started with the idea of a paisley telecaster... but you know.. you did say 'beautiful AND practical'. The tele with all those hard edges just wouldnt have had the practicality we needed. Luckily ZZ Top had the solution... fur coated guitars, really helps to soften those hard edges!!! I guess once you are talking about fabric finishes it really does open up a whole world of options!
I had a bit of trouble finding some paisley fur so had some specially made with the pink's and baby blues that were needed (i have loads spare if anyone wants some).
Obviously a plain fretboard with that would just not make any sense at all, so we decided to hand paint some more paisley up the neck... i found a really good method using poster paints and PVA glue to seal it in and make it shiny
Hardware was a difficult choice, the baby blue sperzels were easy but nobody made a matching floyd rose!!! luckily the poster paints came in handy again

On another note, i wish i had been paying more attention to this topic sooner, it is awesome, aside from all the Tele pictures. But i must remark, and it is also the primary reason why i posted, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING WITH THAT KOA TELE???? I almost had a mental breakdown just viewing a complete desecration of that wood, why would they destroy the sanctity of such a magnificent piece of nature. This is what you get when it comes to humans, no sense or sense of decency towards nature: first we pollute the seas and air, then we inundate the world with landfills, THEN SOME C0CK DECIDES TO FURTHER DESTROY THE EARTH'S BEAUTY BY USING A PIECE OF KOA FOR A TELECASTER??? WHAT IS THIS WORLD THAT WE LIVE IN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

They both look bad, especially with those hideous EMGs. But the Tele version looks better than that other effort.

Aside from the headstock, the "stratified" version looks much better, although asymmetric top and bottom horns would be a bonus! ;)

are you all talking about my wood!! it aint koa - its tazzy blackwood.
Ok to most of us it looks the same, even if you are a geneticist it may seem very similar... personally that what i like about it... it didnt grow from a remote island near america, it grew on a remote island near australia... and yet the little bugger of a gorgeous wood doesnt seem to grow many other places. some of you my believe in intelligent design... which explains all this perfectly as being a damn nice wood availble in other places as god intended. i just think its nice we can find good wood in other places an am happy evolution may have helped that ... but thats an american debate for another day
-

Roo
Anyone who read the 12 pages that is this hilarious thread would know Roo couldn't possibly like that tele with its tele top horn(mound?), tele controls, and tele pickguard. My Paint skills are only good enough to copy the bottom horn and paste it where the swollen section of the tele was(asymmetric wins for me too) and about halfway through the process I realized I was trying to make a white and extra stringed version of my SLSMG.
I know I'm out-numbered here but I've gotta say teles do absolutely nothing for me. I mean if they would do my taxes for me like their owners seem to be good at I wouldn't mind keeping one around.;)

His drugged out rock star image is his disguise. By day he is Richard Keeferson: Super Accountant!

And just not to derail, i bought a tele yesterday, as said in other thread!

He was the first Afghanistani(Afghanistanian?) to get punched by Robert Downey Jr. in the iron suit in the cave. He might have been in a few more scenes before that but I only just realized it was him when they did a close up of his face before getting smashed into a wall.

Hey Roo-o... ;)
Fernando, you know very well that I'm not going to click on that OH MY GOD HE COLLECTS TELECASTERS???? What a knob-jockey!
I was thinking about this the other day - how would one go about de-homoifying the telecaster? clearly some people like the sound/feel of the guitars, but they should have to look like ... you know what..., should they? Well, maybe they should. Penance. I said 'penance', read it more carefully.
If only had even 5 minutes to spare, I'd draw out my designs for the 'Roocaster" - a telecaster-ish guitar that has had the really cr@ppy looking bits removed, so that it doesn't make its player look like a sausage-hider.
You've been warned! :)

One-guitar man here, Andy ;) It was deeply satisfying that most people seemed to like my guitar :) I was just waiting for Philly to slag it off when I posted about it (and I think Philly was waiting for that, too!). :D [/smug mode]

i was expecting it to offend more peoples sensibilities than it did - partly with it being a little odd to look at but also because i know everyone who likes teles wanted to find something not to like in roo's guitar taste

Think everybody that didn't like the design was very respecfull to it due to you've build it... If it were a Fender, you would see a flood of hate bigger than Roo gives on Teles (just to make fun of him )
-
Think everybody that didn't like the design was very respecfull to it due to you've build it
i hope it wasnt just that... i value honest opinions
i know on sevenstring some people didnt like it and some suggested i was copying something else :) made me laugh because as far as i am aware this is probably my most original design and i still get people saying i copied something which just proves there is no such thing as an original idea in guitar design. Roo and I talked about warmoth Z's and SG's when designing this, everything else was from development of those shapes
-
What I like about it - and bear in mind it's not for me - is that, in all the pics I've seen, it looks like a "classic guitar" to me.
There's some very classy looking guitars getting posted around here, but most of them pass me by, or I like bits of them, or I like the wood, the colour or something. But most of them are in my "fair enough, won't catch on though" category (this is a very personal category here, PRSs, pointy headstock metal guitars, all manner of successful stuff, they all fall into it - so obviously they've caught on with someone )
And then there's this "classic guitar" category - the iconic ones for me "hey it's a tele, a strat, an LP, an SG, a Corvette, a Junior, etc, etc"
For some reason the Roo geetar finds itself in that category whenever I see it - I just accept it. Maybe it's cos I'm used to seeing it in Roo's avatar all the time, maybe not, I don't know. Mebbe if I saw it in the flesh I wouldn't think that at all? I dunno...
But if that's what you've managed to do - it might explain why people think you've copied something else. When it's right, it's right, and it seems familiar...
Happens with songs as well - Eg Paul McCartney was convinced he'd ripped off something when he came up with the melody and structure for Yesterday. It just sounds so familiar when you first hear it. It's not because it's a copy of something, it's because it's good...
....I tried really hard, but I couldn't come up with a Cliff Richard reference/comparison to compliment this beast - but I've managed to link it to a telecaster and to a Paul McCartney song, so I reckon that's enough for a post in "Roobaiting"

Such a thing does not exist :)
Except perhaps the flood of hate I give on Mctw@t/The Beatles (yeah cheers for that Andy lol)

Think everybody that didn't like the design was very respecfull to it due to you've build it
i hope it wasnt just that... i value honest opinions
I meant in a good way, as it's your build I would say "that's not my way" or "I don't like the design" instead of a "it's made to be shoven into the owner's arse" if it was a fender/gibby/whatever... (mind the typical Roo's comment)
In deed, as I said on the topic of the guitar, I'm not sure if I like or not, first time I saw it I thought it was damn ugly, now it's kind OK :)
So Roo, if you buy any guitar off the shelf, you'll listen some gay-jokes, even if it's the most beautifull guitar in the world

Cheers for the resurrection Matt. Of all the threads I have started this one is quite probably my favourite!
Is La Cabronita yours?

It is. There were very few of the single pickup ones left so I picked it up the other month.

Looks brilliant! :D
And how tight is that neck joint? (oo-er!) Looks like extremely clean workmanship from our friends at Fender.
-
The neck joint passes the rizla test :)
I can't fault the build quality, the fretwork is superb.
Fret size, neck size and radius makes me work a bit harder than some of my other guitars and.... it's not really worth the money they charge, but, I knew that before I bought it and I don't regret it for a minute.
I struggle to put it down
