well we started with the idea of a paisley telecaster... but you know.. you did say 'beautiful AND practical'.  The tele with all those hard edges just wouldnt have had the practicality we needed.   Luckily ZZ Top had the solution... fur coated guitars, really helps to soften those hard edges!!!  I guess once you are talking about fabric finishes it really does open up a whole world of options!

I had a bit of trouble finding some paisley fur so had some specially made with the pink's and baby blues that were needed (i have loads spare if anyone wants some).

Obviously a plain fretboard with that would just not make any sense at all, so we decided to hand paint some more paisley up the neck... i found a really good method using poster paints and PVA glue to seal it in and make it shiny

Hardware was a difficult choice, the baby blue sperzels were easy but nobody made a matching floyd rose!!!  luckily the poster paints came in handy again

(Hope that link works)

Uh... i think i just threw up in my mouth a little :?

On another note, i wish i had been paying more attention to this topic sooner, it is awesome, aside from all the Tele pictures.  But i must remark, and it is also the primary reason why i posted,  WHAT WERE THEY THINKING WITH THAT KOA TELE????  I almost had a mental breakdown just viewing a complete desecration of that wood, why would they destroy the sanctity of such a magnificent piece of nature.  This is what you get when it comes to humans, no sense or sense of decency towards nature: first we pollute the seas and air, then we inundate the world with landfills, THEN SOME C0CK DECIDES TO FURTHER DESTROY THE EARTH'S BEAUTY BY USING A PIECE OF KOA FOR A TELECASTER???  WHAT IS THIS WORLD THAT WE LIVE IN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

They both look bad, especially with those hideous EMGs.  But the Tele version looks better than that other effort.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Aside from the headstock, the "stratified" version looks much better, although asymmetric top and bottom horns would be a bonus! ;)

And Oppo - Thank you! That is PRECISELY what I felt!

are you all talking about my wood!!   it aint koa - its tazzy blackwood.

Ok to most of us it looks the same, even if you are a geneticist it may seem very similar... personally that what i like about it... it didnt grow from a remote island near america, it grew on a remote island near australia... and yet the little bugger of a gorgeous wood doesnt seem to grow many other places.  some of you my believe in intelligent design... which explains all this perfectly as being a damn nice wood availble in other places as god intended.  i just think its nice we can find good wood in other places an am happy evolution may have helped that ... but thats an american debate for another day
