Truth be told, there was also a fair bit of walking involved, but 3 months ago I wouldn't have been able to run 1k, never mind 10k.
And all for a good cause, Cancer Research UK. :D
-
Nice one! I was always more of a 100m man because my endurance is rubbish
-
wow, nice one. I couldn't do it.
how long did it take you?
-
Just under 1 hour 15 minutes.
Rubbish really, but better than I expected and there were lots of people much slower than that.
-
Congratulations and all due respect. Wish I could do 10K.
-
good work philly! at your time of life it must be hard enough to walk to the post office to collect your pension :)
cool achievement

You cheeky young pup, I should tan your hide... if I could catch you. :(
-
Well done, I dont think I could even do a 100m without breaking a sweat  I want to train up to doing a cycle marathon though, I'm actually not too bad at that :P

Well done Philly. That is a perfectly respectable time if you wouldn't have considered running 1k a few months ago!
-
My ex girlfriend used to do 10k most weekends - sorry I meant £10k - too many shoes to buy
On a more serious note
Well done Philly
I wouldnt fancy training in Streatham though - would teach you how to run I suppose
(Croydon is not much better)
-
Well done mate!
-
Well done Philly. Here was me thinking you were the old man of the forum too
Just joking next time you do a run for charity I will sponser you.

 All on the treadmill, Jon, all on the treadmill - which made running on bumpy ground with long grass today a bit of a shock to the system, I must admit. But good job it wasn't on the road, my shins couldn't take it.

That's the other Phil! (sorry Mr K!  )
-
Well done Philly.
-
Really well done!
I think I'm probably better qualified than most to thank you for your efforts (although as it happens, CRUK don't directly fund my team, although the Institute of Cancer Research (which does fund us) is itself heavily funded by CRUK!).
Especially with the current state of the economy, charitable donations really do make a huge difference to furthering our drug discovery and development efforts.
You definitely have my respect for putting yourself through a 10k run for completely altruistic motives!

Well, not entirely altruistic - it's supposed to be beneficial to my health. Although it doesn't feel like it at the moment...
-
congrats philly!!!
I also have some charity stuff planned for cancer research... all will be revelaed as i get closer to the event - - - lets just say i chose to do something i could do anyway. I seriously doubt i would have the motivation or energy for a 10k run
-
I usually do bike rides for charity - its easier on the knees at my age :) Well done though Phil - how long were you training?
-
Ohhhh very nice! I couldn't and I'm 23  Need get shame on my face and start work out again, getting really chubby and it began to affect my health
-

A little under 3 months - could have done with a bit more really, but I'm going to keep it up and maybe have another go next year.
Funnily enough, I've had no trouble with my knees, although I'm plagued with shin splints and my lower back is a bit dodgy - they're manageable though, haven't got any worse after the first few weeks.
-
All for a good cause Philly. Let's hope sceince finds a way to put an end to cancer without putting an end to humanity.
Cheers!
-
Well done mate! I could probably walk 10K, and maybe run about say... 10m?
-
Nice one :D
Not sure I could manage it.
Actually, I could be a little more definitive: I'm sure I couldn't manage it
-
Congratulations, a very noble cause :)
-
if i ran 10k i'd probably need some charity...
nice work philly.
-
Well done Philly, you're an inspiration to us all!
-
Based on our principle of "pics or it didn't happen"...
That's my friend Claire, her husband Wayne, Me  and Wayne's sister Karen.

-
And you not even SWEAT
Where is that park? Mr Karen looked good, did you "kicked the ball to the goal"?? :D
You look nothing as I thought you would look... As you speak of yourself, I was thinking I would find a granny :D

That's Mrs Karen, Fernando, and she's married with two kids....
The park is in sunny Chelmsford, Essex. Wayne did the sweating for all of us.
-
Hey Philly, you're not looking bad for, what was it, 63?
:D
-
Oh! Completely forgot the S  that's something that makes difference (specially after dozen paints... you can grab Mr X instead of Mrs X )
-
Well done Philly, good work!
-
Hey Philly, you're not looking bad for, what was it, 63?
64. No, hang on, that's when I was born. :?
I put it down to clean living, staying out of the sun and the influence of Leo Fender.
-
Thats great work, mate. I couldnt have done it.
-
Brilliant Philly ! :)
I hope you are able to keep a modest level of training going for your longer term health, but meanwhile that is a great achievement . Congratulations ! :D

Thanks chaps! :D
Yeah, I'm going to carry on, off to the gym tonight in fact. No plans for marathons or anything mad like that though!
Now I have the time I want to do a bit more all-round exercise - after the 10k training I'm an old man from the waist up and a young man from the waist down*, so I want to try to redress the balance.
(* that's just the legs, as for anything else chance would be a fine thing...! )
-
Congrats on your 10K and sticking with the gym (I haven't been for 7 weeks now :( )
-
HOORAY A PIC OF PHILLY! \o/
The world rejoices.

The secret of not looking short is standing next to small women in flat shoes. And I was fatter a few months ago, it seems to have re-distributed itself a bit somehow (but I haven't really lost any weight :? ).
The guitar thing is 100% true, unfortunately... :(

Clips or I don't believe you! c'mon Phil!

You're expecting me to humiliate myself by posting clips to prove how bad I am??? :?
(Yeah, I let the Churchill comment go! )

(Yeah, I let the Churchill comment go! )
I saw that as well  - but is no-one going to enlighten the poor misguided chaps on who it actually is?
I have to admit, the two images I've had so far of "Philly" (from your avatar) have been:
1) You trying to play pool with a curved cue
2) "never work with children or animals"
I'd forgotten the fish relieving themselves...
