Title: Which Bareknuckles to chose for Les Paul
Post by: Infliktor on November 15, 2008, 12:10:30 AM
I play stuff like Gojia (the way of all flesh), High on Fire, Lamb of God. I like the tone in Dopes Die MF Die. Mostly play Rythym.  I will be instsalling these in a Les Paul Standard.

Any suggestions for bridge and neck pickups

I already had it in my head to go with a nailbomb in the neck based on some clips, How would the Warpig sound in the bridge you think.

I really liked a clip I heard of a Warpig  Laid to rest by Josh (Lamb of God) but wasnt sure if what his pickup configuration was in the neck.

Infliktor i'm thinking about installing the exact same set as you ! Warpig-bridge,Nailbomb-neck.I emailed Tim and he said that the Warpig in a LP will be bass heavy, but just like you said i looooove the clip of "laid to rest" !! And another clip of a Black Label Society song i found in the forums...i think both use the Warpig in the bridge position.I was adviced by fellow forum dwellers to go with a Nailbomb set so i emailed Tim again to see what he has to say ! I'll let you know as soon as he replies ! ;)

I just came home and found Tim's email waiting for me !  :D He says that the Nailbombs will retain better clarity with the low tunings i use.I had asked him whether the Warpig or the Nbombs would be better in a Les Paul for heavily distorted downtuned music and his choice are the Nbombs.I was kind of hoping he'd tell me to get a Warpig(:P) but since Tim is the father of the pups i'm sure he knows better than anyone ! I'm off to place my order !!!  :D :D :D

Ok cool...I gues  Im gonna do the same thing.

Are you getting them covered.

Anyone have a suggestion as to what will look good in this ?

Im probably going with the regular nickel  as I dont really like bright chrome.

But Ive wondered what the black, camo or that burnt chrome would look like,,,Hers my Paul

Hope everything goes fine and you guys record samples, because (if someday I go back to metal) my choice would be LP tuned in drop Db with Nailbombs  (big ZW & Dime influence as you can see)

with that guitar i'd probably stick to a traditional type cover, either nickel or maybe even gold would match those control knobs. or maybe non-covered zebras.

P.s.Infliktor i think gold covers with an inscription would look really nice on your guitar ! ;)
P.s.2.I just placed my order and hope everything turns out well !!!!! :) Can you guys give me a rough estimate of how many days you think it will take for the pups to arrive home ? I live in Greece so i guess the same shipping policies as in the rest of EU apply...(and now i'm sure you can tell i'm excited AND impatient ! :))

I wrote Tim and he replied that I should go with Painkillers.  Can anyone explain the difference between the Nailbombs and Painkillers?

I almost ordered the Nailbombs 2 days ago LOL

They are fairly similarly EQ'd, but the PKs are a lot tighter and more articulate. With the NBs think fat, grinding crunch, with the PKs think big open un-compressed crunch and scary amounts of definition under high gain.

I only ever tried NB's in my Explorer, but they had plenty of grunt and clarity in the low end with lots of distortion.

I had Warpigs in my Les Paul though and they were THICK and PHAT, great for doom/sludge stuff, but not fast/articulate enough for faster metal styles.

I'd probably go with ceramic WP's in my Les Paul if I wanted another br00tal pickup again.

Bear in mind mate that the powerball is tight as a gnats chuff, and this stuff isnt all that br00tal. I think a an A5 pig or NB through the PB would be tight enough, and that a pig would be overkill.

You know what sort of stuff I do, and I never have the gain on my PB over 4!

No! 4! And 'not above', too: Its currently actually on 3. I'm sure if I played one of my guitars, the weakest bridge pickup in any of them being a painkiller, through channel 4 with the gain on 10, The Legions of Hell would rise up with Satan himself in the first wave and slaughter us all. It has a SILLY amount of gain. No one, not even me, needs the amount of gain a powerball can deliver. Ever. Under any circumstances.

i think just the regular Bareknuckle Pickups engraving would look good with the gold covers and that guitar. gives it a nice classy look.
