Hey guys.. just for fun... if Tim/BKP gave you the opportunity to name a pick up/ set, what would you call it and why? I'm going to get a set of Riff Raffs in the new year for an LP and can't wait.... but if ever I place a custom order it would be for a set of Humbuckers. I'm not knowledgeable enough yet to work out winds, wire, magnets etc... I'd need to think about that. But I know I'd want them for my all Mahogany custom... so I'm thinking slightly hot PAFs, A5's to add a bit of edge and cut but degaused slightly for warmth, a good amount of aging to gold covers. I'd want them to split well and give a kind of phat Strat sound. The name...
Tim-Buck-2's.
Bear in mind it's just a bit of fun. What do you want and what would you call it/ them?
Merry christmas to all BKP forumites! Have a good one.

I'd have a set of aged zebra coil AIV PAF types (overwound AIV Stormies?). Clear yet warrm, I'll call them TF2s ;)
Actually, make it two sets
-
Were they to do a rickenbacher bass set (which Tim has disavowed as a potential standard production model due to its niche appeal. There is always the chance of rewinds, though.) one could call them Silver Machines or even Motorheads to tie in with the Lemmy Kilmister connection.
For a John Entwhistle set perhaps Spiders or Substitutes (I actually quite like the word play with that one but it doesn't do to be smug about one's punnage does it?).
-
I think there should be "official" names for some of the common modifications of existing BKP models, like the AV Mule and the ceramic Warpig and Nailbomb (although I quite like C-Pig and C-Bomb as names anyway!)
What should the AV Mule be called? A mule with a little extra kick...... Buckaroo?
-
I think the A5 Mule does need a good name. It is a great pickup.
 C-bomb just sounds like its meant to be rude

Rough Boy? Le Grange? no good idea...

Ha ha .... cool!
-
A nice set of P90's called "Revolvers"- not quite historically correct maybe but cool name.
-
I know we've already got a Rory reference.
But a set of Bullfrogs would go down extremely well... :D
(Not sure what they should be though - they could be tele pickups, P90s, or whatever goes in a Corvette)
-
What about a retrofit accoustic pickup called Cathedrals?
-
how 'bout Purple Haze? (ok, would obv. be strat set-up, not humbuckers...)
so perhaps "Beef Sandwich"

La Grange would be cool for that I think
-
La Grange pickups would have be for hardtail Strats ;)
AV Mules should be called Hombres!

Muchacho

Black single coils that come in pairs instead of trios. Alternatively they can be had in purple.
The name: Machine Heads!
:O)

Or Black Knights
-
a Maiden-esque set called 'Prowlers' would be cool.
also, I think the Pig90 needs to be a standard option pickup - the name is fine 'as is' too.
-
fukkerbucker
hehe
-
A bass pickup set aimed for funk players called Slapheads, one for punk players called Spikeheads, maybe one for SKA players called Skinheads and maybe one for reggae players called Dreadheads...

the what?...
the destroyers of worlds and nuclear assault? :D
-
It's been mentioned before, but a bass set called Troopers would give Maiden a much deserved reference in the product line. Why are two sets named after Priest and none for Maiden? Blasphemy I say.
-
agreed - (for guitar at least) a super dupa Iron Maiden style strat set would be awesome!
-
+1, is a definite omission. I'm with HTH, first track, first album: Strat set "Prowlers"
-
+1 because we need an offical bass set so i can stop telling bassists 'oh, they do do them - we just dont like to talk about it' ;)
after playing some BKP j-bass pickups on new years i can say i will be using some as soon as i get around to making another bass

the Prowler riff also happens to be my fave Maiden tone if push comes to shove.
-
a vintage hot single coil triplet - voodoo children
high output PAF-voiced humbuckers - stallion
-
That kind of Humbucker is exactly what I am looking for. Hotter Mule Paf. I think it should be called
Like 12-14k dc resistance would be perfect.
Hell hounds
or something to that powerful yet old message
Mike
-
I think the C-Pig should be relabled as the ... Passive-Aggressive ... :D
-
i think bone shakers,would be an excellent name,for the humbucking,sound i like,
-
Hell Hounds and Voodoo Children...... cool names.
-
Southern Trendkill... Guess what
-
Soulful Tornado's / Rattleheads / Droogie specials
Phantom Lords / Puppetmasters / Creeping Death
Wrathchildren (hm.. Could be meh) / Hillrunners
Philosophers / Crystal Mountains / Zombie Ritual (for a really heavy-sounding pickup)
Family Ghost / Abigail
 I suck at this.
-
Southern Trendkill... Guess what
you'd have to convince Tim to use blades instead of individual polepieces - good luck
-
That's the "Trendkill" part.
-
Well, the topic is name "what p.u. name would YOU" hehehehe ;)
I know Tim won't make the blades and for me it's ok... :) Prefer black cover w/ no holes
-
How about an american rock style p.u called the monkey wrench?
-
mine would be the wookiee sweat
the only model with hairy cover and smelling like wet dog
and of course it would make "aaauhhhhrrrrr" on dive bombs
-
Maybe a Filtertron clone ... trying to think of the most "Malcom" AC/DC song ...
Bad Boys (Bad Boy Boogie) or The Dirty Deeds?
After all, who doesn't want to sound like Mal?
Probably lots of you ... I know I know ... :p
Or maybe a Chet Atkins song (I believe the Filtertron was made for Chet originally, but can't really name a famous Chet Atkins song ...)
-

+1
I'd buy that in a heartbeat! :D
-
A stoner-style Humbucker set called "Green Machines" or "Supa Scoopas" (Though they'd more or less be overwound AV Mules for people who play through bass amps), perhaps?

I really like the idea and the names, but a specially-designed set of pickups does seem a bit at odds with the stoner ethic.
