Is that ANOTHER Rosewood?
ADDICT!
-
modern eagle ?
-
modern eagle ?
It is.
Moneybags is at it again!
-
He'll be getting a matching one soon you just wait.
-
Is it just me or can anyone else picture nigel tufnel's room of guitars?
-
That looks stunning. Love the neck colour.
-
Just checked the PRS site, it is indeed a modern eagle.
Don't like the blue, or the flamed top, but i'm sure its a very nice guitar.
-
Sweet modern beagle 8)
Congratz!!!
-
I can certainly see why Dave . :D
I just happen to love the colour blue - and those inlays on neck and headstock look 'just right' on that guitar. Almost a summer sky body - with birds flying back from a darker cloud theme going on there. The 'whisp' on the headstock contributes to this rather 'arty' illusion. The whole neck looks wonderfully oiled and close grained. Clever how the blue also cosmetically 'blends' the gold knobs with the nickel pickups and tailpiece.. I like the simplicity of the controls and wraparound tailpiece contrasted by the rich look of the neck.
Again, it looks very warm and inviting to play, because of the neck qualities. :)
-
i wondered what you were buying when all the guitars and the lany re-appeared in 2nd's out ... should have guessed ;)
how does this rosewood neck compare to the other? obviously you are liking it!!
-
I knew if you tried it you'd be giving it a new home!
That is a SERIOUS guitar.
-
My goodness!
You must be seriously good in your job, TF!
Congrats!
Guess with one of these you can just sit and watch. Playing not necessary.
-
Moneybags is at it again!
If you stopped smoking cigars, you could have the cash for one too ;)

I love the McRosie to bits, it's my main guitar for Doppelganger (and 'DC backup). The Modern Eagle is something else though - it's just got more of everything. More clarity, more harmonics, more flame(!) - everything!
That is a SERIOUS guitar.
Too right Phil - it's incredible. The neck is unbelievable - sooooooooooooo smooth and shiny but there's no finish on it!
Just checked the PRS site, it is indeed a modern eagle.
Just to confirm, this is one of the original Modern Eagles. Soild Brazilian rosewood neck with Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and one of the last couple of brand new ones for sale in the UK. I've wanted one of these since I first saw one in the flesh, just after they came out. With Braz no longer available, and almost impossible to import into the UK, I decided to bite the bullet and get my dream guitar while I can. Lots of things are for sale in Seconds Out to fund it, plus I traded in my two Miras.
It's worth every last penny and I'm an incredibly fortunate guy to be able to own one. I'd just like to say that I have an amazing and understanding wife, plus I must thank her for egging me on to buy it :)

I know, but Cohiba and H.Uppman make such dang tasty firesticks! :(

There's one exactly the same in Reverb Birmingham, or at least there still was recently. There's it's twin. Mr Fan. ;)
-
So will you keep all 3 McCartys now Dave, or are you tempted to strip the collection down still further?
-

There's one at Peach Guitars too, plus a couple of used ones in Amber knocking about as well.

For now, I'm keeping them all. The McCarty models just suit me perfectly. The McRosie is a working guitar, the other two are 'luxuries' I guess but have a different vibe. Time will tell if they stay!
And to those who think I can afford to own two of these you must think I have a HUGE pay packet! If I did, I would have bought one before now ;)
-
Fantastic! Nice one twin..... the ultimate PRS IMO, I'm sure you're going to enjoy that one. The colour is great.. is it denim blue?
-
Twinfan. You're mad. Nice guitar tho :D
-
It's called Faded Blue Jean, so yeah it's like an old pair of 501s. The back is natural mahogany, and the neck is naturally dark rosewood...
-

It's actual denim, look they've not even ironed it!

What shop do I phone up to buy your old Mira maple? Guitars4you?
-
Yep, that's one! How did you guess? ;)
Great guitar that was, just couldn't love the 24 fret neck. It felt a bit funny :(
-
Wonder how much he'll sell it for, I may be interested
-
He didn't say. His site is kept pretty up to date, so it should be up there in the next few days...
-
Yea, just thinking out loud 8)
-
loved those Modern Eagles, and particularly that colour, since they first appeared. i'm a wee touch jealous!
congrats on it and i hope you get many years of pleasure out of it.
-
That's a lot of guitar.
-
Thanks again guys. I've had to put it down to go to bed, much to my dismay :(
Got a full day of work before I can play it again :(
-
Twinfan, that is so much nicer than that nasty red tele you had as your avatar for a while ;)
Roo

Twinfan, that is so much nicer than that nasty red tele you had as your avatar for a while ;)
 How did I know that was coming?????
-
Awesome! The pickups on this are different from the McCartys or just the Brazilian RW???
Looks damn cool, but look-wise I still prefer the natural and burst one... perhaps if you post more pics I can change my mind
-
The pickups are PRS 'RP' pickups, different to the McCartys. It has a Brazilian RW neck and a thicker headstock so it can have locking tuners too....
-
Man, I'm so jealous . I've always wanted one, and they just came out with a Modern Eagle II. Post some videos or sound clips please; I can only find a few Modern Eagle vids on youtube.
-
I'm looking to borrow my mother-in-law's camcorder in a couple of weeks to try recording some clips, so watch this space...
-
I'm not really a PRS fan, but the Modern Eagle is a sweet guitar and the blue looks absolutely correct on it. Congrats!
-
:o :D

You're killing me,dude :)!Do you remember?I told you i was expecting a ME review of your's very soon...you didn't believe me,then...Now,i hope you will do it 8)!Anyways,Congrats!It's fantastic!
-
One of these days were gonna find out that twin is really some dictator of some country that he rules and taxes to high heavens to satisfy his guitar addiction.
Just jealous
-
I'm looking to borrow my mother-in-law's camcorder in a couple of weeks to try recording some clips, so watch this space...
Surely with Guitar buys like this, you could afford your own camcorder . I love the dark neck on this one but I'm not a huge fan of the blue. Still a very cool PRS and no mistake.
-
Looks awesome Dave, I've always liked the Modern Eagles :)
-
Surely with Guitar buys like this, you could afford your own camcorder
Ha ha! Too true! I'd hardly ever use one though, so I've not bothered getting one of my own.
-
Wonderful guitar TF - looks amazing. Did you say the neck was unfinished? That should make a great difference to the feel.
What you need now is a big glass case to put it in in your front room (in the style of wayne's world - she will be mine......oh yes)
Enjoy
ps if you do some clips do us all a favour and plug it into the orion would you?
-
Lovely stuff mate, very nice indeed. Will you be bringing it to the BKP meet in a few weeks time?
-

How did I know you were going to ask that??? I don't think I'll be bringing it, no. It's a bit too 'new' yet, and I'd be mortified if something happened to it!

It does - even compared to my McCarty Rosewood the Eagle neck is unbelievable. Totally smooth and slick to play.
If you do some clips do us all a favour and plug it into the orion would you?
That would be the plan ;) I'll do some clips of a couple of guitars through the Orion and the Deluxe...
-

I thought that would be the case! I took a newish guitar to a band practice with my old band once. The singer knocked it off of it's stand. Luckily nothing happened to it but it did make me panic for a few seconds - it seemed to fall in slow motion.
-
I can imagine!
I'll be bringing the McCarty Rosewood so people can try that out to get an idea of how a rosewood neck feels and sounds....
-
RPs are great pickups, although tbh I'm not a FBJ fan - I like the tiger eye and red MEs more.
Still, I'd not say 'no'! :D
EDIT: You are a bad man. I have massive GAS for one now. Hmm, what deals can I do with my CuRo 24 AP... aaargh...
-
I'd just like to say that I have an amazing and understanding wife, plus I must thank her for egging me on to buy it :)
Wanna swap? Mine says things like "there's not enough room" as if that's a reason not to get another
-

At least that's better than the dreaded "It looks just the same as your other guitars".
-
Ha ha! My wife said that when I was looking at an Amber Modern Eagle as it's similar to my McCarty with one-piece top.
At least FBJ looks very different to anything else!
-
i really like the denim especially against that superbly rich looking neck... i think thats the colour i am going for on my mahogany/maple burl tele with the macasser ebony neck.. maybe a slightly richer blue if anything but the same general look
-
Martin and I were saying that the Braz reminded us of ebony as it was that dark and slick....
-

I was in a music shop a while back. Some guy had traded his 335 in for a Troy Van Leuwen guitar. He said that his wife didn't even notice the difference! She really should know her P90s from her HBs and her fixed tails from Bigsby trems!
-
You know Twin, I keep looking at the picture and I'm seriously thinking that it is THE nicest looking guitar I've EVER seen. Any chance of more pics... detailed ones? It's simply stunning... cool stuff.
-
Typical. it was my birthday, and someone else gets the presents.
Lovely looking instrument.
-
awesome, those modern eagles do look the business :)
-
A bit late to this one - been a bit busy...
But what can I say? Take my eye off the forum for a few mins and, er, Twinfan buys another guitar... and it's one he said he wasn't going to... and... I love this place...
Looks really good Dave - PRS still not my kinda thing (although I was looking at some yesterday) but I certainly wouldn't "kick it out of bed"!
-
Off-topic but slightly relevant....
I've been dismantling my Mira this weekend, to find some slightly sloppy shielding, heavy-handed soldering and untidy scratchplate edges (not helped by me accidentally melting a bit of said scratchplate with my soldering iron  )
It's suddenly lost the "PRS mystique" and become "just another guitar". I like that feeling. :)
-
My McCarty Rosewood is like that seeing as how it's got some wear and I've rewired part of it. Plus it has new pickups on order, so it'll be a proper working guitar not some 'case queen'!
-
On the subject of changing PRS pickups, Dave, did you find the Cold Sweats a very tight fit on your McKorina? The feet seem to be just a little wider than the PRS pickups. The neck pickup just fits, the bridge will need a tiny little bit filed off the feet.
Not a big deal and easily fixed, but it's surprising how "non-standard" guitar parts are sometimes!

I've fitted bareknuckles to two Parkers. That's a barrel of laughs

Yep, they were fine in the neck but snug in the bridge. You'll see I bent the edges of the feet a little to get them in...

Yeah, I noticed! I'm going to file them and make it permanent.

I can (sort of) imagine! Did you order them modified from Tim, or do all the butchery yourself?
-
For my BC Rich Mockingbird I had to snip the corners off of the baseplate legs! I could have made the cutouts bigger, but since it is a vintage guitar I wanted to leave it as original as possible.

And modding the pickup feet is a lot quicker than getting the router out! :)

Well I've been noodling on this guitar off and on all day. It's just so expressive and plain bloody lovely :D

For those of you who are interested, here's a few pics of the Braz neck and fingerboard. The fingerboard has a nicely figured swirling grain, but the neck itself's grain is nice and straight:

Wow, looks very different from Indian, doesn't it?
Did you see this Modern Eagle clip? The kid looks about 12*, what the hell's he doing with that £4,000 guitar?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTrje5XRzS8&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTrje5XRzS8&feature=related)

Two things;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv13iUNPsSM&feature=channel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv13iUNPsSM&feature=channel) I for one, as well as Denim 'N' Leather would be cringing at this!
And quote of the day;
'The playing does not do this guitar justice! it is like having an amazing pair of boobs and reducing them! '
-
crikey - that fretboard certainly is swirly!!!
-
Wez - I guess that's why it's the board and not the neck!
-
A lovely guitar! The neck looks awesome.
How are the electronics on the ME? My McCarty in its original state got a little darker when the volume was turned down. I've never liked that, not with humbuckers at least. So I installed the 'treble bleed' mod.
-Zaned
-
I've not taken the back plate off to check out the wiring, so I don't know how it's wired. I have a feeling it's like a 50s style LP is. Rolling back the volume keeps the highs OK.
I switched one of my McCartys to this style wiring and it does the same thing. I'm not a fan of the treble bleed mod when there's a simpler solution!
-
Wez - I guess that's why it's the board and not the neck!
yeah sorry, i wasnt being negative. although i would be hesistant to put a board like that on anything other than a very stiff neck (which you obviously have here)
damn pretty piece of wood
-
Yeah, it's really dark and you don't notice the figure so much at first. Then as you look closer you can see what's going on....
-

hang on a minute, so 50s-style wiring also keeps the highs when the vol is rolled down? interesting.
really nice wood on the fretboard there, thanks for the close-ups. nice clip too, sounds very nice, i especially liked the clean/semi-clean tones at the start. :)
-
Cheers Dave. The Deluxe does what the Deluxe does - gets fat easy. I'm going to try and get some Orion clips done...
-
I must admit I'm a little surprised by the heel of this guitar. I guess I'm spoilt with a neck-through design to have such a smooth heel to the guitar, though...
Nice crunchy tone, there. That doesn't look like a cleartone cable, though...! :P
Roo
-
They do like the big heels over at PRS, i think they used to be smaller but were increased for tone and sustain reasons, it looks lazy but its very intentional. its definately a feature or PRS's i struggle
-
Very, VERY quick and dirty Orion clip done quickly before I head off to DC rehearsal. Rev Willie G would NOT be proud!

Nope, it's a free Rosetti one I use at home!

I'm not constantly playing at the 22nd fret, plus with the double cutaway and my wrapped over thumb I don't notice it!
-

You have that in common with Mr Ed Roman! Nothing else, I'm sure.
-
I have a Darth Spud too.

i know, i was thinking that as i typed it.... i feel so dirty!!
-
I'm sure it plays and sounds nice, but I cant agree with that colour :P It looks really odd, like an old pair of jeans (and not in a good way). imo etc..
-
well it is called faded denim so i guess they're doing their job right hehe
-
Lovely guitar Dave- great tone. I love the look of that fret board too. Sloe Gin has a great chord sequence for sure.
-
I'm a bit slow on the uptake on this one! Due to a crazy week at work :crazy2:
I just knew you was going to get one of these Dave! Good for you man, I bet its fantastic it certainly looks it. Congratulations :D :D
-
That guitar is awesome :D Maybe it's sleep deprivation talking, but from certain angles it actually looks like something out of a dream - the combination of the faded blue and that big bronze bridge make it look slightly unreal.
-
Cheers Dave. The Deluxe does what the Deluxe does - gets fat easy. I'm going to try and get some Orion clips done...
sweet- i really like fat cleans (but a little sparkle too, and your tone seemed to have that).
really nice clip on the orion too- is that the crunch channel?
-
Lovely guitar Dave- great tone. I love the look of that fret board too. Sloe Gin has a great chord sequence for sure.
It's a great tune isn't it? I'll have to learn how to play it properly!
-

It should have those speech bubble things on the clip telling you what settings I used? The Jesus Just Left Chicago bit is the clean channel, and Cheap Sunglasses is the lead channel without the extra boost.....
-
well it is called faded denim so i guess they're doing their job right hehe
haha well I guess that makes sense then :P
-
I must admit that the look of the thing is actually growing on me - at first I did not like the colour (but bear in mind that I'm a man who will not allow denim in his wardrobe!).
But the more I see the pics... it really does look gorgeous, especially against the red of the case-lining (I assume you're planning on getting a similar looking red crushed-velvet suit to wear when you're playing it? :D)
It's sounds pretty good on the clip too - but I think that in future, you (and Hunter, on his video clips) have to do an out-of-focus leering "rock" face at the camera at the conclusion of your clips
-

 I'm going to try and get some decent clips done of a few things in the near future, but recording is such a fine art and I'm cr@p at it!
-
That is the VERY look I had in mind (except I hadn't connected it to Austin Powers)
-
mmmm orion
-
You like it them Marc? Not a great clip I must admit, for which I apologise. You get the general gist though ;)
-
Yeah it sounds like a great amp.....but would have to sell my soul to buy

Whoa, that wasn't the Orion I was expecting !
-
Expecting Metallica, Roo? ;)
-
Yeah :(
-
awww shite thats lovely, i want it!
Makes my custom 24 look cheap lol..
PRS convert here Im going to be buying another one at some point.
-
Cheers James. It's only the case that makes your CU24 look 'lesser'.
BLING!!!

touche, i tend to listen to the clip then open another window to get on with what i'm doing... thanks :)
-
Good stuff Dave - I like the Sloe Gin vid. Are you gonna sing it as well?
-
Err, I'm actually brushing up my singing as it happens  I'm doing some backing in Doppelganger.
At some point in the future I want to front a 3-piece band....
-
well it is called faded denim so i guess they're doing their job right hehe
haha well I guess that makes sense then :P
been wanting to do something in a proper faded denim for a long time, partly because of the PRSi but also because of this insane guitar by a fella called marcovis over at project guitar
(http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e31/WezV/new/marcovis1.jpg)
well now i am!!! gonna be a bit special too - this is the top:

That looks fantastic. I think "cold" colours like blue, purple and (especially) green look amazing on figured maple. It's a shame Gibson don't expand their colour options a bit.
-
its a shame gibson dont use much wood like that - and i dread to think what they would charge for it if hey did - but i guess thats a discussion for another long thread
but yeah, purples greens and blues really work well
incedently - the top above is still covered in saw marks which minimises the figure quite significantly - gonna be awesome once i have it all smoothed out.
-
^ Wonderful ^
I can't wait to see that maple finished in that blue. I prefer that slightly darker hue to the wash of the faded denim.
Lovely bit of wood.
-
+1 on greens, blues and purples over figured maple... :)
combine those with bursts, and you've got an extra helping of awesome!

Yes they do look nice and so does 'Brahn' in a burst

yeah. :)
