Since the sneak preview shots of this guitar seemed to polarise opinion somewhat I thought it might be a good idea to show it in finished state. Excuse me Captain if I have jumped the gun on this one :D
-
And this one; don't know how I managed to get two of these shots up there but hey it is getting a bit late for an old git like me to be thinking straight.
-
Marmite anyone?

Marmite anyone?
Are you going for the wooden spoon award?
-
Marmite anyone?
Very much so.
I just can't get on with that paintjob, but suspect I'd think it was grand in a less OT finish. Even just one of the sparkly colours rather than both.
Bet it;s a smashing geetar, though.

ROO !
Don't look ! You may think it looks a bit too close to a T *******r for comfort ... :!:

Eh? You've lost me? :?

You know; the wooden spoon. Awarded to those particularly adept at stirring the proverbial. :D
-
Wasn't intending to stir - just stating the obvious!
For the record, I think it looks really distinctive and pretty darn cool. Justin Hawkins should play one!
But I can equally imagine a load of people spitting their coffee out over it! ;)

Appreciate the heads up, but I suspect you know just as well as I do that the forum auto-shows these pictures. :(
My eyes... it burrrrnnnss....
Well, You can guess which side of the fence I fall on regarding THAT monstrosity! Sorry, Bob!
I need to wash my hands now, I feel dirty just seeing it...

Do you ever get that feeling? Like.....I wish I'd never started this thread :) Good night guys......I'm going to bed with a good book and a bottle of scotch!
-
Did you not guess this might happen????
-
i cant say i am a fan of the finish, i agree with nfe... normal sparkle or solid colour would work better
but i like the details>
i like the fact you didnt feel the need to shove a fuzz factory in it and i like the fact its a more usable version of a manson/bellamy guitar that would suit more players than a straight up copy
and i like the fact you did something that would turn a lot of people off.... i felt similar about Roo's guitar in some respects- lots of great features but clearly it would never be for everyone!

I guess it's the triumph of hope over experience; just goes to show that age is no insurance against naivety

It's a very "particular" type of guitar built to one person's specifications, so you can't be that surprised if it doesn't have a wide appeal.
90% of us are going to say "I'm sure it's great, but it's not my kind of thing". Sorry and all that!

I wasn't looking for peoples approval and no I'm not surprised by the reaction but I do this for a living and if anyone approached me with some very personal ideas about what they wanted out of a guitar then I would be more than happy to help them achieve it; the only proviso being that it was totally functional, played well and sounded good. My response in quotes was meant to be somewhat lighthearted :D And now I really am going to bed; lots of timber to plane up in the morning. Thank you all for your honesty and humour. Goodnight :D

i really like it! don't think i'd go for a Bigsby myself, but they do look great. i may be the only one, but i love the finish :)

What do you not like about the Tele? I want to personally know, I think I did read somewhere about the top horn going backwards (?) into the body wasn't pleasing for you, anything else?
-
Hazzah,
This is coolness incarnate, whoever ordered this is obviously awesome :)
-
That's a tasty and even looking piece of rosewood 8)
-
Well, I think it's awesome.
-
Can't really say I think it's beautifull, but it looks very well built and I bet a paint it smokes any off the shelf guitar (http://216.211.140.132/Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys/icon_thumright.gif)
-
It looks very well made and is probably a wolf in sheeps clothing. Possibly a sheep that an elephant used when she had arsenal playing at home.
Roo that exorcist reference had me in fits!!
Well done Bob you did your job well. 8)
-
I'm sure it's beatifully made and plays well but as I hate the Bellamy/Manson shape and Bigsbys I think it's butt ugly - sorry :( :(
I think it's that carbunkle of a top horn that really puts me off these shaped guitars.
P.S. I AM a Muse fan (just hate the guitar)- have been a long time as they come from this part of the country and my son was a big fan long before they became well known. Mansons have the (broken) 'mirror' Bellamy guitar on display in the shop - just as ugly in the flesh as in the photos (always wince when I walk past it).

Bob, we can't very well blame you for someone else's poor taste! A job is a job, and as long as it fulfils your criteria for a build-worth-doing, then no-one can criticise you for doing it :)
We're just taking it out on the guitar instead :D
-
Ive always been a fan of Bellamy/Manson creations just for the sheer madness of them.
I am quite a big Muse fan and have read several interviews where Bellamy explains why he avoids much more traditional guitars like Strats. His logic behind it is that any time he picked up a strat he just wants to play Hendrix licks. Understandable.
Anyway i think this guitar looks pretty funky. If you're into something a bit unusual its the way to go.

This could sell in it's thousands as the 'Hannah Montana' Signature model !

It is a bit like the old Silvertone finish - they put sparkles into a black finish and then lacquer over the top (however nowhere near as many as this one has!). I have one, but it is one of my guitars in storage at the moment. Interesting choice of hardware and pickups though. I would imagine there are a lot of tones to be had from it, in spite of just having a volume and pickup selector.
-
It's growing on me, i'm getting to quite like it, and if it was a guitar I had custom built i would be glad that it wasn't to every ones taste .
Personally I want a sort of carved top jazzmaster shape guitar HsH and set neck. That would probably cause a marmite reaction as well

i imagine it would look very chubby
-
I've gotta say, I kinda like it.
Can't stand the Bigsby though. But it's a nice modern take on the shape.
Mark.
-
sweet- i wasn't 100% sure i'd like it until i saw it with the bigsby... the bigsby makes it all work, if you ask me. :)
