Yes, that's a PRS "Pauls 28" being gigged, only £28,000 each...... :o
Fair play to the dude though! 8)

What's the other guy got, a Santana model?
That's not your average "Irish" Pub band, who are they?
-
I believe the other guitar is Private Stock Santana model. And he also owns a Pauls 28 :o
They're a US pub band I believe....
-
yikes, I'd be scared to admit I even own that guitar, let alone play it in a pub!
-
clearly pub gigs pay more in the US
£28k for any guitar is insane, I don't believe there is anything about a £28k PRS that will make it play or sound any better than one of their 'standard' models at around a mere £2k
-
There isn't, I agree. It's a collectors guitar. You're paying for the exclusivity.
I respect the guy for using it in the way it's supposed to be. He's clearly VERY minted though.....
-
Believe me, if i had just spent 28 grand on a guitar, you bet its gonna get some use!
-
Cool, fairplay to him for actually using it! Looks pretty nice though as does the Santana.... nice to see them.
-
Not quite as ballsy as Mr Hammet - original '63/58 Explorer worth $750,000 on stage????? :o

^ Bit different to a pub gig though!!!
-
Gosh , and I thought Bendetto / Sadowsky archtops ( or Gibson L5 and Wes Montgomery models ) where expensive enough.
Thanks for making me feel like I have chosen a modest and 'economicaly viable ' dream to aim for ...
-
Ai ai... is better the don't cry after it brakes on stage or the finish chip...
-
I felt a bit uneasy about gigging my 70s tele and that has knocks all over it! This takes the biscuit though!

Lawyers?

i feel uneasy about gigging any of my guitars.. they all have sentimental attachment, and have been modified, so in a way are all unique instruments.
i like hammet's explorer there, nice pic

A good point well made!

If he can spend that much on a guitar youd think he'd at least purchase some trousers.
The shorts and the novelty hat seem to cheapen the look of a 28K guitar

I imagine that is his special St Patricks Day outfit.

you've seen the hat, right?

I dig that TV Yellow DC LP Special in the back!
-
looks like there's a second one behind his leg, too...

You should feel uneasy for even owning a telecaster, Ian ;)

Ha - I was waiting for that. Actually, I am again considering selling it!

Did Roo send a PM to you asking price??

Perhaps he worked for Bernard Madoff !!!!

I think we are lucky not to hear the song...

Indeed. I friend of mine is the guitarist with the zepp tribute 'Whole Lotta Led' and he bought a Jimmy Page replica. It was knocked off its stand and the headstock snapped off. He bought one of the early ones and shelled out 10 grand for it. On HP too! :x
-
i think it's insane! of course he could afford it, but if i could afford a 30k € PRS i'd buy 20 cheaper guitars and have 20 times the fun! it would be mental anyway and i've got still a bit of brain left, but some people have got so much money that 30k less make little difference... too much even for lawyers, i fear!
-
^ same here. though i guess it depends on how much money you have. if you have £30k you're probably not going to spend it all on a £30k PRS. But if you have so much money that you can't reasonably spend it (and that you're making a ton in interest etc.), then i guess you might as well.

Nobody's making a ton in interest now! Might as well keep your cash in a shoebox under the bed.

Really?
I can see the attachment, I s'pose, but to me they're just tools at the end of the day and you have to use the right tool for the right job. I would be upset if a guitar broke due to someone else being a dorkus and damaging the guitar, but it's the price of admission, really. You take the stuff out and use it and it gets ... used! LOL
-
i would have it in a second if i could afford it, although i would really much rather be interested in one of pauls originals... how much do they go for now?
and pauls a really nice guy, - i hope he is close enough to world domination to actually get to spend some proper time in a workshop again. when i got to speak to him and show him a bass of mine he seemed really genuine and you could see how mcuh he enjoyed talking construction methods and ideas. I didnt take the bass at first but when i said what i did he insisted i go fetch it to show him (much to the annoyance of a whole queue of people :P )

That's a great story Wez. I really respect people that take time to talk to others - it obviously helps that he is also passionate about guitar making but he didn't have to do what he did. Respect indeed.
-
A really nice story that...
These little considerate "human" actions really leave a positive impression which ripples out further than could be expected.
No amount of expensive branding or PRS advertising has ever made me feel as supportive of PRS as that little story.
Good on Paul.
-
Yeah that's a great story :D
Can you charge more now that he's handled it?
-
not sure about that andy, but you never know. i wish i still had it - i loved that bass :( went for a silly low price on ebay when i needed some cash

A mate gigs both his dads 59' Standards.
And why not, that's what they're for. And battered guitars look better 8)

haha, touche. though i reckon if you know where to go (and have enough cash), you could do not too bad.

He does nowadays.
He took his Dad's '56 Junior to his first ever gig at a school talent show without asking, he learned afterwards

i know you're right - but as you know i'm slightly emo about my instruments... so i'm going to have to say:
NO! YOU'RE SOOO WRONG!!
-
Great Story Wez and cool pics. You know Mr Smith is a Koch user don't you? Obviously a man of great taste!
