If only all Teles sounded like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfww11bJGDQ
I've got a new Tele p/up, so maybe it will once the new strings get here :D
-
That is awesome. What BKPs would get close to that tone!
-
That guy has a great job!
-
Wow! Yes I'm interested in the bkp pickup for this sound too. Phil?
-
Cool!!
-
Blackguard Flat 50
-
That sounded great. I think I shall have to crank up my amp and see how I get on with my Country Boys.
-
Nice one. More GAS!
-
Sounds epic, i think a lot of that tone though is mostly due to the amp he is using.

I think I might agree there .
After glibly shouting BG Flat 50s - I thought I'd better check. And yep, I have two teles with BG 50s that sound like that on the bridge... but only when I hit the strings hard like that (I usually do ), and only if they're going through the right sort of amp models...
Um... I also have another tele that still has its stock Fender Japan pickups in at the moment - and it sounds damn pretty close as well, if treated the same way, not quite so organic or quite so much bottom end as the Flat 50s. (And doesn't sound so sweet with the volume backed off)
I also think it actually depends on the guitar itself, not just the pickups. Of my two Blackguarded teles, the Fender Japan 52 re-issue actually sounds closer, my Baja is slightly more polite sounding throught the same amp models
-
awesome video :)
-
I was expecting some Roy Buchanan or something, but yeah it sounds good.
-
I still thoroughly enjoyed the sound coming out of it, even if it was easy to achieve or not. Good video.
-

+1; it shows Roo that a Tele can kill too.
-
Ooooh.... very exciting tone.
I'll get a Tele one day... Soon...
-
teles sound great :) \o/
good find HTH
-
You have to wear a tele LOW to get that sound.
-
God damn thats is one Nice Tone. I would certinaly like to know what amp thats was as let's be honest it's all the sum of a lot of nice parts to get the TONE!
-
Sounds nice but the video is clipping which ruins it :( This sounds great as well

PDT_037 - have you seen all the other guitars he has demoed !!!!

-
I'm looking at that 62 Jaguar he does and it sounds nice!
But the guy's annoying me.
-
is that nail varnish?
-
That Tele (Esquire) sounds great!
Wow, loads of clips of some very fine vintage instruments.
-1 for the black nail varnish.

+1, got me gassing for P90 SG again!

Errr.... no it doesn't! It looks more camp than Big Gay Al. The sound isn't killer, although now I'm glad I know what people consider to be "good tele tone" (I never understood this before). Very unimpressed by the clip, and the tone seems really weak, to me: it's got no balls.
Oh, and the tele combined with the nail varnish and flowing locks? This is not a good look ;)

this whole roo vs tele thing is getting a bit thin now...
Seems the resistence is getting weak :P
Tele army, forth!! :D
-
I was in particular responding to the comment that this tone "Kills". There's nothing "killing" about it!!!
-
Not the sort of tone I like but, I had a quick play on a American Standard Tele yesterday and I'm surprised to say it was awesome.
I used to hate Tele's because I saw so many of the local Emo kids playing them that it really put me off. But this tele had just as much sustain as the Les Paul I played prior to it and was much more comfortable.
Tele's can 'kill'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCK7oHgmv7M proof
-
Do we know what amp the Esquire guy was using?
That's a great woody tone :)
-
The amp sounded like a small Marshall combo.
Tele's have plenty of sustain as long as they got the three saddle bridge and a string gauge of .10 or more.
-
I was in particular responding to the comment that this tone "Kills". There's nothing "killing" about it!!!
 I didn't read it as that Roo - I read it straight: "it shows Roo that a Tele can kill too" - no mention of tone there.
I'd assumed that you'd respond along the lines of "yeah fine, if you insert it sideways into an appropriate orifice, granted, it might do a fair bit of damage, yeah... but the clip doesn't actually show that"
BUT!! and this is a big but... I finally start to think that Fernando might be right - I'd assumed he was joking about you coming round to the tele-side...
Evidence:
1. The OP put your required "tele" warning in the thread title - but you're still in here reading it, even though you might see images that "hurt your eyes" :o
2. The biggest shock - you obviously watched the clip :o, knowing that there would be moving pics and sounds of some geek playing a tele-type instrument...
It's alright, Roo, we're here to help you, we all knew you'd come round to it in the end - we can be very supportive...
-
Andy is so right... You can't be sure if Roo will see a thread if you don't put a tele on the title, but if you do, he WILL enter... so, you're not convincing me anymore, Roo... wanna buy my tele? I sell it just for you :D
-
this whole roo vs tele thing is getting a bit thin now...
Well said that man!
-
this whole roo vs tele thing is getting a bit thin now...
Well said that man!
:D true - but you just have to go with it.
(Either that or go down the "but he started it...." route )
-
Tele's have plenty of sustain as long as they got the three saddle bridge and a string gauge of .10 or more.
Or a modern six-saddle bridge with a thicker baseplate. I know that's sacrilegious and won't give a "true" twangy Tele tone, but it's a great sound in its own right.
The biggest tone-killers seem to be the vintage-style bridges with six saddles.
-
The amp sounded like a small Marshall combo.
I was thinking Brown Face Fender?????
-
+1 for Roo!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DF7zfXFfIgE
-
Truth be known; I never much cared for Tele's before owning one. Tele's have a sound that is unique, and fits so many genres of music that it is better to have one and not need one, than to need one and not have one.
-

I must admit I was intrigued to find out what people consider to be good Tele tone, and with everyone raving about the OP's posted clip, I figured it's a reasonable place to find out! I do go into pretty much all the threads, though; like all of you, I'm (just a little bit) addicted to these forums ;)
The bulb guy's heavy Tele sound was definitely getting closer to "kills", though. I would struggle with single coils to control the mad amounts of noise and feedback at the gain levels I use - this comment is not tele-specific, you understand - so I still struggle to see any viable use for a single-coiled guitar in serious brootalz music. I used to play a cheap esquire strat in my first band many moons ago playing heavy stuff - but it was all solid state, cheap guitars, no mids noise back then. In my tone quest over the last few years, I've found so much better ways to achieve the wall-of-noise effect without unwanted 'noise' creeping in! :)

Slight derailment.
Anyone checked the Jaguar clips?

Roo - that's a well thoguht out argument for why you don't like teles/single coils. Kind of beats the constant baiting of your dislike and the normal responses! Long may it continue!
-
Did anybody saw it?????? Roo saying NO swear on a Tele topic????
I start to get frightened, something is going to happen: a mega meteor falling on earth, etc... :o
BTW, if you keep on this progress Roo, in 1 month you'll have a Tele :P

Don't ****ing count on it!
:D
(PS I'm a 1-guitar guy anyway, there's absolutely *nothing* I want at all to replace my WezV, and I honestly can't see me buying another guitar ever. My previous guitar was second hand, the one before that was my first ever guitar, bought by my parents. Even if I were ever to buy another guitar, there are SO many more I would buy before even thinking about a single-coil loaded guitar of any description ;))

that clip has some badass tone too - my Tele sounds like that now :D

That is great tone. In one of the vids he says that the amp he's using is a Marshall Studio 15 (which uses 6V6s!) and the tone of the amp comes through whichever guitar he's using. All the guitars sound good.
Conclusion: Player-> amp-> guitar in that order!

Why anyone would do this is just beyond me...
RIP Red Telecaster...

That guy with the Esquire don't know sh1t. You don't need a fancy guitar shop with loads of vintage cr@p. Anyone can grab a Tele and a small combo and bash out some widdle.........

Lovely stuff Dave - that combo is awesome and I must get me one someday! What PUPs are in the tele?

Dont think it's been mentioned, it's a Marshall Studio 15 i believe from what was mentioned in another clip.
-
All I can say is the tele talk in here (and that video at the start of the thread) has me lusting after a tele. Maybe I'll just get a squier and some BKP's for it, something I have toyed with doing for ages!
-

Half a bottle of wine does that to you!

Pickups are stock - Custom Shop Nocaster in the bridge and a Custom Shop Twisted Tele in the neck :)

i agree, maybe I'm being a bit uptight but I see no reason to disrespect a perfectly good instrument, I seriously wanted to punch him in the face for the tele's sake

Mummy and daddy will buy him a new one, not to worry.
It's so cool to smash up your guitar in front of your friends and be popular for being 'so mental'

Nice playing, Dave. :D
Not quite sleazy enough though...next time try half a bottle of Jim Beam!
(BTW if all I had was a Tele and a Martamp Deluxe, I'd probably manage.)

:D I knew you would twist this after I posted it! I know your not going to budge.
I wasn't that keen on them years ago either. I had a go on on one in 'Rock Around The Clock' in Crouch End and came out with the feeling, one day I will get one of those as that sounded great. Then again it can hinge on how diverse your musical tastes are based on a 'Horses For Courses' thing. Certain guitars sound better at x type of music than y.
All good things come to those who wait.

Hahahahaha I've only just watched that for the first time! (safer to judge what it's likely to be from responses here than to watch it and get nearly caught out again ;)). Aside from the fact that they are clearly a bunch of cretins, that is one less telecaster to worry about :)

It's the living room, but you may as well call it *my* room  A few Martamps, a guitar, a wide-screen TV and the big black leather sofa I take my guitar pics on :)
The rug was a birthday present from my brother-in-law (my wife's brother). Slightly comedy, but the cats love it :D
-
I would never get away with playing in the front room either!
Just watched again and marvelled at the recovery from the drunken stagger (that's what I assume it was!) around 1:20!
-
I wasn't that drunk to be honest, I move a lot when I'm playing and nearly tripped over the guitar lead

Whoops - sorry mate!

Maybe we can have a 'which singer sounds most like Cookie Monster?' thread. We can send a packet of Hall's Soothers to the winner...

What PU are on your Tele HTH?
out of respect to BKP I won't advertise another manufacturer - it's not a BKP in my Tele.
I still love BKPs too though - the Abraxas set in my Les Paul is getting some love, not a million miles away from Mules but just enough extra grunt. Only criticism is I'd like a slightly hotter neck pickup to match the bridge.
