Holy shiteee............. :guitar4: :guitar4: :guitar4: :guitar4:
Crack The Skye
.... get it 8)
-
Got it. Disappointment.
Mastodon have gone downhill with every release :(
-
I can see why that's true for a die hard metal head like yo self 8)
...but for me it has become more 'accesible'
The guitar tones are f'kin awesome!
-
Thing is, I'm as big into folk and country and jazz as I am metal, and there's more of Brents influences in those areas coming through. But I just want to hear the great big sludgey Remission type riffs in my ears with Mastodon.
-
oooo would never have had you down for country 8)
-
By way of my family, I've never been at a family party where Steve Earle and John Hiatt HAVEN'T been the soundtrack.

Agreed.
Although I haven't heard it myself yet - I pre-ordered ages ago, but still waiting.
-
Most of the album is up on their myspace 8)
-
I'm old, I don't do MySpace or downloads (although I'll probably be forced to in the next few years). I'm waiting to have that box in my hands. :)
-
haha :D
-
looking forward to hearing it. love their stuff so far.
-
I did pre-order the album on Itunes, I am going to see them april 11 in New Orleans!!...very excited!!!!
-
it was posted to me a couple of days ago, hopefully come today. they're on the bill with Metallica in Dublin in August, so that should be fun :)
only others i have are Leviathan and Blood Mountain, i personally prefer Blood Mountain. from what i've heard, most fans disagree, but hey, what can you do?

It's like most bands who get a bit more melodic (dare I say "commercial"?) as their career progresses. It always divides the fans.
How many people are there who write off everything Metallica have done since Justice, everything Megadeth have done since Rust In Peace? There are even Trouble fans who think their best stuff was Psalm 9 and The Skull . Fine if that's their honest opinion, but I think there's sometimes a large degree of "I was a fan before they sold out".
I always favour the melodic stuff, myself (this doesn't include going so far as bringing in outside writers, Aerosmith style).

I agree that mastodon have gone downhill, still good but leviathan owns (that is their first album isn't it?).
I find that most bands start with a bang, really passionate and energetic then they get a deal and need to make albums dependant on what the label says. Like a big explosion, Its epic but dies away. Music needs to follow a trend to make money.
That why I seem to look for more underground stuff.
But it doesn't apply to all bands!! Not at all.

Nah, Remission was the first, plus a couple of EPs/demos before that.
-
Ah well im not a huge mastodon fan. but i really like one of there albums. yeah it remission a liked!!
Another thing i like about mastodon is all the awesome visual stuff. case designs and stuff. they look really cool and suited to the music.
Crack the sky cover looks awesome!
-
Lifeblood is their first, and I havent heard the new one, but you wouldnt recognise it as mastodon if all youd heard was blood mountain.
I agree, its all been downhill to BM, including lifesblood, which I like about as much as what I think are the best bits on remision, which is my favourite album.
Battle at sea $%in rocks. Check it out.
-
Mastodon are my second favourite band of all time.
You suck if you don't like this album.
(only joking)
-
Listening to the new album and it sounds awesome!!!
I'm gonna buy it.
Should be on guitar hero FoSho!!!
-
Its a great album, a bit more mature and yet still retaining the musical layers and complexity in the way only Mastodon can do it.
I was not impressed on first listen which for me usually means this is a great album. Its defo a grower. Its been on constant rotation on my iPod and at work. :)
Bummed out I missed their London gig.
-
They sold out big time with this record in my opinion!
-
Oh, the new album is dull as $%ing dishwater, IMO. So incredibly boring.
-
^so wrong..... ^
:(
-
Its a yawnfest. Sue me.
-
yeah, listened to it once, havent listened since, actually felt like some mastodon on the way to work today, so i went straight to leviathan.
