Don't worry Captain, as long as you're not playing through an Axe FX you're usually welcome in this forum  :D

Err, I've found some pickups that I like better than BKPs.  Whoops.

But I still like my BKs  :)

I'm in 2 minds about getting a custom guitar. I feel I'm not worthy of one because I play the same boring stuff all the time haha. But it would be nice.

I dont really know if thats a shocking secret or not though. I dont think I have any others other than I dont use expensive patch cables because I think they're a rip off and my tone is just fine without them.

Nothing to feel guilty about, I have loads of non-BKP pickups.  Even some of those EVIL hum-cancelling ones which are supposed to sound like vintage single-coils (although I am finally starting to be be convinced by the "true single-coils sound better" argument... or maybe I'm just less bothered by hum than I used to be).

Hmmm, what can I confess?

I can't actually play guitar to save my life...

...but you already knew that.

If you're not worthy of a custom guitar, I shouldn't have any guitars at all.  You can play 10,000,000 times better than I can.

If you can afford it, buy it!

I was just thinking the same thing after my wild active pickup love just now. But I've given Tim quite a bit of cash over the years:

vintage trem
stormy monday neck
a4 mule bridge
a5/a4 mule set
riff raff set
vh2 bridge
rebel yell bridge
holy diver bridge
cold sweat set
painkiller bridge
miracle man set
slowhand set (+baseplate bridge)

thats most pickups in the range i'm interested in though, i'd like a sinner, some sort of telecaster pickup, and maybe fill in some of my missing necks, perhaps a PG blues set too.

I've never owned a proper fender either, nor do I really plan to. If I get a tele or strat I'll probably just get a warmoth.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing now, putting them together from parts (even if a lot of them are actual Fender parts).  It's nice to have some control over things like neck shape and body weight.

That is not shocking. The old Dirty Fingers were the pickup equivalent of a hydrogen bomb. A really big one.

When I play mettals, I prefer single coils.

That is shocking.

Here's mine: I do own a Fender product. A tuner. And even that they can't do right, it's the worst tuner I've ever used.

Never owned a Fender, never owned a Gibson or even a Squire or Epiphone.

I've never tried Seymour Duncans or DiMarzios and I quite like EMGs.

There. I think that'd enough heresy from my mouth today.

Now I have my setup as I want it, been playing with the polepieces and loving them. Sorry guys, no CS after all.

Maybe that I don't play enough full songs, and work on theory... but thats natural right?

I am SO pleased to see people who know what the word "emo" means/meant. Truly, truly amazing and even more so that I'm seeing them on the BKP forum.

Now for a shocking secret:
I'm a professional musician in a touring band yet have virtually no income. I've not been able to have a "day job" for 5 years though now that we're home working on a new album I've been hunting high and low for something to fill the hours and pockets. It should be well apparent that I've got very little in the way of extra spendies.

The shocking secret part: I've been taking advantage of another company who fills my room with free stuff that I don't really care for/use and selling it off at bargain bin prices to fund more Bare Knuckles. I feel pretty cr@ppy about it. Once my current order is paid off I'll definitely stop.

I hope you guys don't think less of me for it. haha

The last time I played with an actual band (not counting the excellent BKP LDN gathering) was about 3 years ago, rehearsing with an ABBA tribute band.  And that was only for a few weeks.

Prior to that, nothing since the mid 1990's.

And I've never owned a Fender.

Or a Gibson.

I like EMG 81s.

A lot.

The EMG 60 is my joint favourite neck pickup (with the painkiller)

But dont have any anymore.

I own a powerball and ubercab that have never been gigged.

I listen to metal 90% of the time, but like bon jovi.

I put an uber-sinner in a westfield strat and love it.

I have a £300 set of headphones that I never use.

Ok, I'm done, for now.

MDV if you want me to look after those headphones for you I'll happily take them off you, I won't even charge you a fee for breaking them in, bargin!!!

I've only ever owned 1 guitar, and it's a Jackson, so I guess technically it's a Fender :P

it doesn't have BKPs in either, although I plan to get some after I've bought some other stuff first, but I know how long it took me to get round to buying a proper amp

I did borrow a BC Rich Warlock for my first 6 months of playing guitar before I got the Jackson, and I didn't know how you were suppose to sit down with a guitar so I've always played in the classical position

I'm not young or handosme & I often make very bad decisions about my gear. I still can't set my vintage trem properly even though many people (including some very nice guys here) have literally talked me through it step by step.

I love Abba, Bon Jovi & John Mayer
I claim to be a blues player but usually end up just widdling mindlessly. I hate the fact that my new guitar wingman can pick up stuff much easier than I can (lucky git). I'm under the thumb & love fenders

enough already?

Where do I start ?

Over 1000 posts and I don't own any BKP's !!

I like Depeche Mode ! (and Girls Aloud too !), and loads of other completely "uncool" bands.

I never, ever practice scales or theory, or "technique".

All the technical players (such as Vai, Satriani etc) who seem to be almost universally adored on this forum  - they bore me to tears.

I'm 43 and I still leap around on stage like a teenager !!

gads you people are horrible,

okay here's my shocking confession, I'm terribly indecisive when it comes to spending moolah on gear....

I bought a Legra guitar, which was $%&#ing awesome, but then I changed my mind on the specs I wanted and paid for a new body, so its like i bought 1 1/2 guitars, but after i said "okay this is it no more changes,"....err I'm still asking to change some things...so basically9 months and 1 1/2 guitars later...I'm still not sure what i want!

Bob is making good money off me though, if I had a customer as annoying as me I'd tell him to go somewhere else  :P

I cant help it - I was raised on bon jovi, queen, alice cooper, iron maiden, dire straits, deep purple, rainbow, def lepard, whitesnake, that sort of thing. Ages 0 to ~12, this stuff was the background music to my life!

My vocalist, whom I'm always chiding for listening to gay pseudo-metal (e.g. bullet for my valentine) was rather ammused to discover this as well.

I think my fondness for portishead and saul williams surprised him even more though.

Those that know me know that I loves me some metal, but also have learned not to try to predict what I will and wont like ;)

I only know the pentatonic scale and can work my way round it to get some major-sounding licks going, but theory is alien to me.  I play by instinct and by ear, nothing else.

I like Abba too, and Def Leppard (I'm going through a bit of a hair-metal phase - Motley Crue have some killer riffage).  Equally though, I'm on a massive grindcore kick too - General Surgery have some NASTY tunes.

If you try to forget all that went before, they're just good-times rock/metal albums.

They suffer from Alien 3 syndrome. Alien 3 was a good film, it just had to follow the first two, which are awesome, so it looked worse than it was.

Oh, theres another - I like alien 3. And both, yes BOTH avp films :P

I might change the name of the syndrome to Load Syndrome though.

However, St Anger was garbage, and I'm liking Death Masternetic less and less.

OK I confess - last month I bought (probably) the plainest PRS ever made - a satin finish Standard 24 - absolutely no bling! All mahogany, "Poo Brown" as PhillyQ calls it, 24 frets with trem (which Twinfan hates). Love it (Cold Sweats added) and feel I don't have to wear kid gloves to play it ....

Nothing much wrong with that, even the poo brown colour.  I'm not crazy about the satin finishes, but I can see the utilitarian appeal, I guess.

It's not the 20th anniversary one with the mini bird inlays, though, is it?  I prefer moons...

It's not the 20th anniversary one with the mini bird inlays, though, is it?  I prefer moons...

No - it's 2006 - birds but not the 'whispy' ones. Must say I am impressed with the build quality - stays in tune over the whole neck whatever you do with the tremelo, volume and tone controls work very well, single coil and/or low volume settings give a good clean sound (partly due to Cold Sweats). Nice neck but not quite as fast as my 1989 Les Paul Standard (ignoring  the higher frets!)

I'll

Perhaps I was a bit too harsh with the term.  PDT_020

Lemme rephrase it, I don't like telecasters at all.  PDT_024 PDT_007

I used to have a serious aversion to ABBA (not that I like them now)

In primary school they tried to force us to dance to it. I sat in the corner with the hands over my ears and refused and called it torture.

I don't know why either... I'd never heard of them before at all. It was something to do with their voices, I still hate it.

I had my first bunk up with Elton John's Saturday Night's (Alright For Fighting) playing in the background on the pirate station Lazer 558 am. Her name Was Deb. Deb The Dog!   It was her 1st time too  Oh it was yesterday in case your wondering when. I thought I'd get that one in before the inevitable joker got there first!
This could be a new thread subject, or not!

I read " I had my first bunk-up with Elton.." and for a micro second was a little concerned that Elton would have perhaps used and abused you Johnny but read on and saw that it was Deb the dog though I am not sure if that is a relief.

Well it is opposed to Elton. She wasn't a dog in the canine sense, just rough!

Well the title of this thread is 'Care to share a shocking secret'
I've not read anything remotely shocking yet so I thought I'd take things in another direction!  :D
