Oh, you boys!
What's the top one, Steve? I assume not a Fender, judging by the bridge and the shape of the neck.

Going by the website I found it on, it's a Fender US Tele that's been refinished and modded.

I actually like both of those, but maybe without the Bigsby and the strat neck... both the bodies are great though!
-
(http://www.thomaskinkadechico.com/pinebigsby1.jpg)
thats NICE - would look better with a bakelite guard though, not keen on those El Dorado scratchplates (love their straps though, owed one for around ten years now).
-
that reminds me of stuff done by a fella called orgmorg over at PG
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/orgmorg/barny2.jpg)
he mainly builds stuff from reclaimed wood such as old barns. i think its great because i am still not sure how he manages to get it into a guitar without loosing the 'old barn' character

I am with you on that. The scratchplate is a bit too "country" for me (and I like old-time country) but I am gassing hard on the rest of that guitar.
I had long decided that the '69 Esquire I will build will have a Bigsby, but now I am wishing I didn't have some other projects to attend to first.

+1. Thinking about my neighbours garden shed...
-
i saw another one that rocks, really...
price is - of course - a little high... 1800$, but the look is really striking!
i love these evil looking things... rusty iron, worn barn wood...
i hate saying it, but i feel incoming GAS...

does anyone here think telecasters look a little weird?
I like telecasters, but when I stop and pause to actually look at them, its like the.....funny in the face sibling you love anyways cause there good on the inside? As in good like juicy tele tone good? Just sayin...............

No. They don't look any weirder than any other guitar does if you stare at it long enough.
I don't expect everyone to agree....
-
Leo got it right first time with the Tele - the looks, the feel, the tone (except the neck pickup of course). I'll say we're talking Broadcasters/Esquires here anyway, one pickup all the way.

Nah, I love Tele neck pickups. And the in-between position is such a pretty sound.
I am tempted to make my Warmoth build an Esquire, though.

Me too - the Blackguard Flat 50 neck is sublime - and the serial/parallel tones are amazing.
... and as for the bridge...
Well. Pure tone.
I love telecasters. I really, really do.

They might not be as expensive as you think. The Squier was £60 and the Peavey was £30. (http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii98/marantz1300/100_0865.jpg)

Those were my Teles, only now I've put the pale maple neck on the black body and sold the sunburst body and tinted neck.

I want your thinline Philly. Is a YOINK allowed in this instance?

I want your thinline Philly. Is a YOINK allowed in this instance?
:D YOINK certainly allowed, but it's not for sale!
I've almost sold it several times, but after 10 years I finally realised it's most definitely a keeper.

Hmmm, and you're a lot bigger and younger than I am :? . Good job you're hundreds of miles away.

I have a car and been in the mood for a roadtrip. The London area seems nice this time of year.
And I think I want another tele, until i realise my holydiver equipped bar-steward is possibly the best guitar i've ever owned. Anyone tried the cheap BSB tele that squier make?
-
Copperhead,
Thanks for the appreciation, though I have to say the punched metal guard was my last resort with that generic Antique Burst. I tried everyting, the red torty it came with, a white pearl, a black 3 ply. I just dont like the body colour myself, but have tried all kinds of changes to offset it. Which is a shame because it plays so well for a really cheaply acquired guitar.
I am seriously thinking of sanding the body down and repainting with something tastier. You have now made me doubt this course of action.
I have to say the only thing that I thionk goes with the antique burst on the Squier Standard Tele is a metallic guard. Which is a shame because the Squier Standard teles (in whatever colour are a seriously good value for money budget tele) and in antique burst they are cheap as chips for a non-chinese Squier.
Maybe I'll live with it a bit more
-
While on the subject of BSB Squiers, just to add to the thread, heres what I did to my BSB 1998 Squire. I suppose you could call it an "Esquier"
Hot pickup, wiring to give tone+vol/vol only/straight to jack. (from Ole Fuzzys site;- Google it!!) Oh and homemade blackguard as well.
-
How would you rate the bsb squier? I'm actually a big fan of Squier guitars, my current pick up and play guitar is my vintage modified squier strat.
-
Roo, you want a Telecaster
(http://www.hypnoticmp3.com/pics/watch.gif)
-
They may not be the best looking, but this is one of the best guitar I've ever played barr none!

come hug me!

They may not be the best looking, but this is one of the best guitar I've ever played barr none!
and with at least a chrome BKP humbucker it would be even better! ;)

Don't worry, once my insurance pays up (assuming they do), I'll be replacing MOST of my pick ups with BKP's!
-
how about a stratele!!!
-
Hmmm... I'd prefer a Tele with Strat pickups.
Although I do like the idea of a Strat with a Tele bridge pickup - I guess a baseplate might achieve something similar.
-
its one for myself this. i wanted a quick project so picked up an allparts neck for it and knocked out this body in a spare hour this afternoon. i am going to rework the scrathplatde design a bit too - make the lower horn more strat like. it was going to be more like a squier 51 clone but i changed my mind earlier
-

Oh yes. (http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii98/marantz1300/100_0871.jpg)
-
Earlier comment came out wrong - I don't dislike it, hybrid Strat/Teles are cool. :)
It reminds me a bit of the old Robin designs (and the Squier '51, which you mentioned):

-
no worries phil, it will never please everyone anyway!!
thats making me lean back toward the squier 51 idea - which was going to look like this
(http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e31/WezV/new/Squier51.jpg)
-

I do like the '51 Precision style scratchplate and control plate... on the other hand, it's neat to have the Tele control plate to mount the switch on!
-
well i have both a 51 and a tele chrome plate - but only a tele pickguard which is why i leaned that way. although i will most likely be redesigning the pickguard anyway to fit the body better so i suppose that makes no difference now

You've definetly made me warm to the idea of Esquireing my Classic Vibe Tele, its on the agenda.
-
I really do love how that tele looks, Ian. I want one with a piledriver :D
-
Here are my tele's. The sunburst with the Silvertone mini-HB is a 59 Esquire with a brown sugar bridge. The buterscotch has the piledriver (with a slowhand neck).

wife away is a very appropriate title for a pic of your guitars completely invading the living room! :)
