The strange thing is, I had been researching norse mythology (as you do) as my band is changing name from Ascendancy, foung the symbol Valknut/Valknøt, settled on that for the bandname and now the name keeps popping up everywhere i turn (michael Amott hass the symbol as an inlay for his new dean sig. guitar)

That's hilarious, especially considering Vallnøt just means walnut.

Why on earth would you call a band Walnut? :?
-
I suppose it's as good a name as any.
-
I always thought that Macadamia has a ring to it. I thought it was a mythical land ruled by benevolent giraffes where Monday had been replaced by an extra Friday and Wednesday was replaced by a tree. Imagine my surprise when I learned the truth.
-
Walnut? My worry was that people would pronounce as Valk - Nut. anyways the name comes with its own symbol (better for merchandise + designs) and getting 5 people to agree is not easy.
One guy had suggested the Joseph Fritzl Experience, another had Before the Bloodshed and I came up with Darkness of the Driven and Valknøt.

The same reason you'd call your band "Korn"

That's made me feel all LOVELY and dreamy... I want to live in Macadamia with the benevolent giraffes and have BBQs on Mondays.
Ahhh....

-
Your morose and boring neurosisalike doom has nothing on the dour monotony of the mighty...
http://www.myspace.com/oldmangloom
(especially Zozobra, which I cant find online...)
-
Black Sun sound nothing like Neurosis :? They are however the best band Scotland has ever produced.
I like Old Man Gloom a lot, too. And Zozobra, as it goes.
-
They sound exactly like neurosis, and Gun are the best band scotland have produced!
WHo thought france could be crushing and brutal?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEy2ZwzOu2w
-
From you, I expected the brutal band from France to be Gorod.
My pal plays in a band with the keyboard player from Gun. Nice guy. Rubbish band.
-
I dont like grood, actually. But theres no deying their brutality. Moreso than gojira, yes.
tbh, i'm going only of their cover of word up, which I love to an irrational degree
-
Yeah I'm not much one for Gorod either, but I much prefer them to most of the "technical" DM bands like Necrophagist.
Gojira, I can take or leave. Had twice the crowd Manowar did at Hellfest though, which filled me with joy.
-
black sun are grim!!! as for the best produced band in scotland, you forgot alestorm.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3v6bRZpbcto
well the ex guitarist was Scottish, dunno about the rest, demo sounded from when they were called battle heart sounded better to me

I think they're all Scottish, from Perth, but none of them live there anymore. Or maybe they've had a bunch of lineup changes since then. They're terrible, anyway.
Gimmick metal is bad. Gimmick metal ripping off dreadful German power metal bands is even worse
iron monkey
all im saying
It's just a shame one of them is a Nazi.
-
it's just gavin the main guitarist that left, used to know off him the bodom forum before they got signed, I think it was originally just him and the singer
the bassist is on guitar duty now, so no more widdling and sweep picking
all I remember of back then, is gav taking the piss out of alexi stalkers and sending me loads of guitar pro stuff he wrote that had a viking metal umpa umpa vibe to it
-
someone in a metal band is a nazi? naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Which one? Anyway, I thought they disappeared when Morrow died several years back...

Doug Dalziel. Was on that leaked BNP member list then started threatening to sue online forums where it was mentioned and got laughed at.
They did, various members are in/have been in other bands. Some of which are great. Electric Wizard, Crippled Black Pheonix etc.
-
I'm so, so tempted to build a Valnøtt...
