Title: painkiller in a maogany body >>EQ QUESTION<<
Post by: mesallover on June 08, 2009, 12:11:25 PM
HAILS!

I have a Cort katana custom shop   [ http://www.tibiuccio.it/cortKxmp1.htm ]     with mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard,       mahogany body and a thick and big maple top [ 0.79 inch  ( 2 cm ) in the center of guitar ..is an archtop ]

this guitar have a  selected woods  quality and I would like to put in the  bridge position a BKP!!!!

I play extreme metal and .( death metal in primis) ..i think that a Warpig is rigth for me but i dont want buy another Warpig ( ..YES.. i have now a Cpig and its a super awesome pick up!!!!!! XD YATTA YATTA!!!!!), but an humbucker that makes a powerfull distortion and very rich harmonically sound at the same time ..

a special pick up for a special guitar!

attention : i dont know but this my guitar play so biting and a little bit acid....its strange but my ears hear this nevertheless the body  is in maoghany!( probably is the thick and big maple top that make this sound...probably!)

What do you recommend me in bridge and neck position?  maybe a miracle man in bridge and a nailbomb in neck position?????

------Tim consueled me a painkiller in bridge... but  the bkp painkiller web page  says that this pick up have a "screaming highs"  and I think thath is no good if my guitar sound is biting and a lil bit acid...I play in D standard tuning!

DANKE!!!! :D    VIVA C-PIG! :D :D :D :D

+1 on Eric's spoken...

And the mahogany neck and body will give enough "body" to the tone, making a good balance... just for make things clearer...

before fitting my PK set i had got the same fears as you... but i was so happy about the results that i found myself with an absurd grin after the first 10 minutes test...
i bet you'll have the same reaction!

a question!

the painkiller sounds like ?

 seymour duncan distortion?

x2n dimarzio?

or...

...just for understand the "EQ" of bkp painkiller

(I understand that the painkiller have an eq like SD distortion( and similar pickups)...right?

 :)

The PK doesnt really sound like much else, in my experience. Maybe an 81 with much, much more life to it.

Think ultra-tight bass thats quite ballanced in magnitude, big, thick mid hump, attacking high mids and smooth-side-of-sizzly high end. Quite uncompressed for its power: LOTS of chime and bite, even under high gain.

When I tried my mate's PK-loaded LP Custom it sounded very much like MDV's description.  It was EMG81'ish, but fatter, louder and more dynamic.

i see the Miracle Man more on the 81 side but for sure the Painkiller has got the "direct" and slightly "above the mix" feel of 81s without their dryness.
i know this is not much helping, but i don't know how to express it...
