Title: What's better than two NGDs?
Post by: Fikealox on June 17, 2009, 01:07:46 PM
Three NGDs!

I've been fighting an overwhelming urge to rant about my incoming acquisitions, given that I don't have any decent photos to post (having not received the guitars yet), but I'm too weak to fight anymore.

I guess it's about time this forum learned what a gear whore I am. My previous newbies, the Forest 7, Angelus, and Eclipse, are all gone again already  And being replaced by...

[these are stock pictures, although the ice blue is the actual guitar...]

Actual, decent, pictures will be posted as I get 'em ;)

Lovely parkers, and that V is gorgeous!

What was wrong with the last 3?

lol, there was nothing wrong with them at all, I just didn't fall in love with them, and there was the opportunity cost ;) I'm not sure if the SV will stay with me long-term, but I couldn't pass up the price ($1000au). It's kinda weird only having two ESPs, though.

Blimey, you're worse than me or Twinfan!

I love the colour of that Parker!

I've never liked ice blue as a colour but the deluxe is a great guitar. I dig the mojo far more though.

Cool, look forward to pics and reviews. Parkers are growing on me... I'll have to try one soon. Congrats.

I really dig the Singlecut, but only with the old headstock as pictured here:

anyone tried the Esp Rhoads V? just wondering how the neck profile is because I know Alexi Laiho doesn't like some thin necks on Jacksons and he's pretty much the reason why ESP have Rhoads Vs

Oh yeah, I gave a lot of thought to the mojo, since I traditionally like mahogany. The deciding factors for me were the extra price ($500 more, or $700 more for the mojo flame), my dislike of the JB and Jazz, and my preference for plain solid colours (and the mad sale at the store I buy from only offered mojos in the trans red or natural mahogany).

Funnily enough, my only real experience with Parkers is my old guitar teacher's Classic, which has a mahogany body, basswood neck, and dimarzios, so I had to sort of extrapolate from that middle-point to see where I wanted to go. I kinda figured Flys to me are shreddy, "dimarzio-ish" guitars, so I went with the Deluxe. I figure if I need some more meat to the tone I can always get some Bareknuckles ;)

I've played a few SVs (only the floyded ones without the cutaways, though), and the necks have all been very "M2-like". However, according to the spec sheets here (http://www.guitarsatbmusic.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9882), the SV Stds have the same profile as Horizons and Eclipses, while the SVs like I'm getting have the same necks as M2s. Either way, though, they're definitely chunkier than the Jackson RR necks, though not baseball bats by any stretch.

Oh hold on, I meant I liked the mojo you posted far more, is that a deluxe as well? Right enough it does look like Dimarzio's funny wee polepieces.

I full expect you to want Bareknuckles in them in a week. Fantastic guitars let down miserably by the stock pickups. You want them to be shreddy machines? Get Painkillers in there and kill people.

Ohhh, hehe, sorry man ;) Yeah, they're both Deluxes! Painkillers are definitely on the short list :D

I saw the Ice Blue finish for the first time the other day, it's just stunning! I'd love to see it in person.

And have a magazine cut-out on my wall of Alexi Laiho with that SV  :D

I have to wait till monday for the ice blue :( The SV looks like it's already on the chopping block (or maybe my Viper is), 'cause I need cash to put a midi pickup in the black Fly and get an axon ax100, and maybe a Pod X3 Pro (although upgrading from the x3 bean is a bit self-indulgent)

I couldn't be happier with the Fly. I haven't even had a chance to plug it in yet, but it's so lively, vibrant, comfortable and easy to play. The neck heel (or lack thereof) is just utter perfection, as well!
