What are you using? what do you like about your particular delay? what dont you like?!?
i'm considering my options at the moment, i used to own an oldish ehx memory man but got bored with it so i'm looking for something new and different now. was thinking of maybe trying out the malekko 600 bright...
not sure what else is meant to be good at the moment.
on a personal level i'm not particularly interested in digital but feel free to rave about whatever floats your proverbial boat!

Carbon Copy here.
Sounds superb, really really good
Takes a little while to set right
Not good for adjustments on the fly as the controls are very sensitive
Best to set and forget
-
Maxon AD-999 for pure analog delays.
EH memory man Hazari for lots of features, 1 being a looper.
T-Rex Replica for a great sounding delay (almost analog if you want it to be) and tap tempo.
-
BOSS RE-20 (COSM - modelled Roland Space Echo)
Pros:
Portable and runs on a standard 9V supply
Hammerite finish is tough enough to last and looks attractive
Sound is comparable to original (though not identical)
Designated Tap Tempo footswitch
Oscillates and reacts like a real tape echo
Interfaces with an expression pedal
It has a smiley face which brightens up my mood
Cons:
Smiley face creates electronic noise in the circuit even when bypassed
Can be a bit sluggish to react when speed knob is turned, giving detuned repeats (designed to replicate original)
Cannot set separate volumes for tap tempo and normal use so needs to be reset each time
-
I love my old Echoplex but the tape is dammaged now :( .I'm using a Boss DSD2 and it's not too bad..
-
DD-3 (MIJ) hardly ever use delays, this one sounded ok but has only few delay otions.
-

That's not a con! That's the most fun thing in delay pedals!
I have a T.Rex Replica and think it's marvelous. I really love the Carbon Copy too but would miss the tap tempo.
I can't fault the Replica at all though. Well, the naff brown finish and the price, I suppose.
-
Akai Headrush:-
Pros
East to use intuitive looper
Tap Tempo
Echo
Delay
Good clean Hi Fi sounds, good bypassed tone
Price
Cons
Big
No need for 6 tape head outputs
Looping could be longer (although longer than some on the market)
Not as warm as analog but to be fair, I'll probably get a carbon copy also
-
Has anyone used the Digitech Hardwire delay? I've been thinking about getting one (if I ever get my xbox 360 sold), mostly because it also features a looper which I think would be fun to mess around with. Does it do the detune thing when you change the speed? I love messing around with that haha
Looks like its either that or the Headrush for a 2-in-1 type job
-
I like the look of the Hardwire, I've always fancied reverse delay as well. If I were buying again I'd definitely try it out.
For looping I think it might be harder as theres only one switch but I'm not sure.
Like the look of all the hardwires, especially the reverb....
-
Ibanez DE7 - Cheapish, study, has everything I want in a delay and the lo rez echo sounds are cool too.
-
the best delay i've ever used is the POD one... i mean the digital delay. i've heard bad things on standalone Line 6 effects, though.
-
Like Maverick, I have a Boss RE-20.
He pointed out the pros and cons clear enough. Though mine doesn't make any noise/hum it does alter the sound a bit even when bypassed but the original did that too. The reverb on it sucks just like the original.
People love the old Roland Space Echo because of it's quirks and the RE-20 does one hell of a job replicating it.
The big problem with the original is that it's a big heavy machine. You'll need one for use, one backup, several others for spare parts and an arsenal of fresh tapes.
-
I'm using an old Arion that I found at a yard sale for $5.00
No, really it sounds very natural. My use of delay is very subtle anyway.
-
I've got a Moen Pretty Dolly.
I bought it because it was cheap, but it actually does a good job. Not a bright, clear digital delay, but a warm, sludgy blurry delay, which I really like.
-

It takes longer than any other delay pedal I have known (analogue or otherwise) as it is designed to replicate the change in speed of a proper motorized tape deck. My issue is that the smallest of changes can take 15+ seconds to balance out properly and if I want to change speed on the fly I have to use the tap, which does not allow for atmospheric delay sounds compared to using the knob to define the speed.

eventide timefactor .. does everythng a great delay should and has presets .. in vintage mode you can make it sound cr@ppy like a real old digital delay and tape mode is decent

Hey about your roland can it do really short delays? I want to upgrade my delay and I was looking at the echobaby, and the giga delay stuff around 200usd. I figured hey if this can do it than maybe that is what I should get its the same price. On ebay anyway
-
Are you after a slapback kind of sound?
In that case the pedal delivers on the shortest settings (and if you wish you could add some reverb to smooth out the sound) and with more repeats it has a dub vibe. You must be careful, though, not to incite it to self oscillate as this will happen with certain settings (much like the original unit).
Another thing I just remembered:
If you set the pedal in stereo with only the mono output connected you will only hear the sound of the reverb and delay, with the original signal silent. This is great for spacey sounds.
-
So I can do everything with the Space Echo right.
-
i have a DD-3 and a malekko 300 bright.
malekko is kinda new, it sounds real nice.
-
I use the RE-20 for rockabilly slap back mostly. Think Brian Setzer.
Also great for 'Sleepwalk'. Nice arena echo in there too.
Also great for Brian May and Led Zeppeilin stuff. With an expression pedal you can do the 'Whole Lotta Love' spacey noises.
Not too well suited for U2 stuff 'cause it might go chorusy or start to oscillate and the rhythm of the echo isn't tight.
-
I have to agree with a previous post the T Rex Replica is a fine sounding delay pedal. It runs on 12V so has the better room.
I also have Boss DD-3A, it has the later digital chip, but incorparates the NE570 pre emphasis/ De-emphsis chips as found in the MIJ versions. I have also installed a toggle switch and capacitor to remove some of the highs to make it more analogue as per Keeley/Analogman mods.
-
All I want is something simple with just a short echo nothing fancy anyone have Ideas? Of course hopefully nothing that will feedback
-
the malekko 300 is what i got just for that.
although maybe wait and see when the tonerider analog delay is coming out, im gonna pick up one of their chorus'

Hehe, Arion. Thanks for the high school flashback!
Another RE-20 user here. Combine it with an RT-20 for some REALLY spacey effects!

I use the Hardwire Delay and it's fantastic. There are loads of different delay options available, it has a useful looper function and the build quality is incredible. I also own Digitech, MXR and Ibanez pedals and they don't come even remotely close to the build quality of a Hardwire pedal. What's even better is that the quality of the effect is also excellent. I have mine positioned in the effects loop and I was a little worried about that as I used to have a Small Clone that wouldn't work properly in the loop but this Hardwire is perfect. What don't I like about it? Nothing!!

I have a few delays,Ibanez ,Boss, Danelectro, Arion ,plus WEM Copy cat and Melos Tape echos. The Arion is a SAD1.Its a cheap, plastic annolouge delay. Its the one I use 99% of the time.Lush and warm sounding, it adds to your tone, not sucks the life out of it. Ilove it.You can pick them up for peanuts too. Its the orange and black pedal on the floor. (http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii98/marantz1300/pa100_4.jpg)

Is that the rotary speaker sim?
If so I was tempted by one of those for when I have the money (though I have issues finding employment and I have a restoration on a Columbus Series 2 Telecaster copy to finish.).

Yes!
I can't stand chorus effects -- love phase shifting, though. This effect is kind of like a cross between the two.
