Check out this little beauty, and no I'm not talking about Phil X......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LLn8cgEjtE
That's a chunky sounding Strat - very nice!
-
D-R-O-O-L
7.3 lb is heavy for a strat! The average weight of a 60s strat is 7.6 lb
-
Is that GAS we are sensing, Dave?
-
I couldn't import it, even if I had the cash and actually wanted a Strat. Neither of which are true!
Brazilian Rosewood is now impossible to import into the EU.
Oh, and it isn't blue ;)
-
Looks and sounds great, I even like the gold pickguard. Sounds real fat for a strat, I wonder how much of that is the amp?
... and the black nail varnish is gone
-
A lot of the big tone will be the rosewood neck...
-
Good news is that it does not appear to be for sale on their site...
Perhaps Dave has already been to California?
-
I watched that video last night, it is indeed a very lovely Strat!
I've never seen an all rosewood strat before, and from the clips in the video it sounds fantastic!
-

No chance!
I'm pretty darn sure that guitar would sell VERY quickly in the US...
-
oooooooo that's nice
That really does pull off the Blackmore sound
-
oh blimey, I do like the sound of that
I'm going to convince myself I don't want it my complaining about the narrow neck width at the nut and the fingerboard radius
there ya go, I don't want it now
secretly I desire it
-
"I'm pretty darn sure that guitar would sell VERY quickly in the US..."
Or in Manchester.......
-
Maybe, but not to me!
-
Or in Manchester.......
If it comes within 10 miles of Manchester I'll fight you for it!
-
Can't access this at work :x
Will be taking a close look tonight!!!
-
Ian - don't! You will only dribble on the keyboard!
-
Does sound nice for a strat. Don't dig the looks so much, but really like the tone he gets.
-

Will be taking a close look tonight!!!
+1
But probably not too close, seeing as it's my mate Mr X.

okay PhillyQ clear this up, was the whole "there's 8 of us designated by letters" serious or were your joking!??? I'm honestly confused!

Now think about it for a minute....
Do you know any brothers/sisters who all have the same first name and have to be given some other designation to tell them apart?
(Michael Jackson's kids don't count, he was barking mad)
-
Actually err... Yes.
George Foreman (the boxer) his five sons are named George: George Jr., George III, George IV, George V and George VI. :?
Nuts huh?
Well he's made $240 million out of a bloody electric grill so he can't be that mental!
-
:|
OK, I admit it. I do have 7 brothers. All called Phil.
-
Nice guitar and if Phil X likes King's X he gets my vote X.
-
"Tell yer what! We'll call yer Bruce!"
Mike
-
Great sounding guitar for sure.
-
Watched it, liked it, want a rosewood neck strat :)
-
Talking of strats and gold. This is just down the road from me and I'm strongly resisting the urge to go try it!

-
I DID NOT SEE THIS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
PHIL X IS BACK!!!!!!
Great news, I've really been missing him....
(Fair play for bigging up King's X though)
Anyway...... nice guitar, and it sounds lovely. But I think the rosewood neck would look a lot better on a dark-coloured body.
-
What a coincidence, I just ordered a ONE PIECE 22 fret rosewood Strat head neck from USACG.....
-
I can't see this at work either, and I was too busy playing my rosewood board strats last night, so I didn't manage to turn the laptop on... I'll check it out over the weekend :D
BUT! ... I do sense the "next one" coming on for Dave (twinfan) now... not this one, by the sounds of it, but it sounds to me like the "seal is broken"...
This is almost as big as Roo buying a tele
Just think, in a year or so's time, when we're reading on here, Dave will be downsizing his strat collection in order to get Les Pauls (or whatever, maybe it will be Gretsch? dunno)
-
Shock!
-
That's a great guitar, but there's something about Phil X - I suspect I'd like anything that he was demoing...
And I LOVE the Kings X reference... Such a great band...
Mark.
-
now I got a curiosity about single coil middle pickup for cleans
not sure about the gold pick guard myself
-

Believe me, my dislike of Strats isn't a million miles away from Roo's opinion on Teles. There is no way on earth that I will be buying another one.
I have a Strat, a JV Squier, that was my first electric guitar. If I wasn't emotionally attached to it, I'd sell it.
-
New sport
Dave-baiting
1. Take one custom Strat with Rosewood everything
2. Paint it blue.....
:D
-
It sounds really nice, but not like a Strat - I'm assuming thats why Dave likes it and its also the reason I like it too. The tones are almost P90'ish.
My dislike of Strats is more the look of them on me and the fact I can never get one to sound good. I've heard other people playing Strats where they sound great - weird. Teles are better anyway
-
Shock!
-
Does sound really nice actually. As HTH says, I hate how strats look and I can never get em to sound that good!
-
Great sounding tone. Those rosewood necks look nice, you can get those on the Warmouth site. He is a good player and singer that bloke. He did a great job of 'Over My Head' by Kings X. I saw them live 20 years ago.
-

Supporting Anthrax by any chance?

I saw Anthrax in '89 with Living Colour supporting - that makes me feel OLD, jeezus!!! :o

Yes that's right, they had the same promoter or something like that. It was an all day Thrash gig at The Brixton Academy. It was only about 15 quid for the tickets too before fun got taxed by one eyed wallet raping goldfish features.

I saw that one too!

Finally got to watch it, I do like this Phil X bloke, he makes me laugh/smile... :D
Yep, a fat sounding strat... but like others, I'm wondering how much the amp is contributing in this clip - my IT'd Roadworn is sounding a lot like that through Vox models on my modeller (especially if I restrain myself from adding treble that doesn't exist on the original amps). And when the ITs were in my CIJ strat they sounded even more like that.
Anyway, off to watch more Phil X clips...
-
I love watching the Phil X clips; he's a great player and singer, very entertaining! Watched a load last night, seems to be able to get a great tone out of anything :)
-
Ah it sounds sweet. I'm still contemplating picking up another mexican fender and outfitting it with lace sensors a la billy corgan. Just need to pick out a snazzy colour combination.
-
Seafoam green with a pearloid scratchplate always looks great! I want one of those Tom Delonge strats, its the perfect one for me.
-
Trying to find a seafoam green strat or body (NOT surf green) is a bitch unless you order from Warmoth. I wish I could afford one. :(
-
I've really come round to strats recently after years of never truly understanding them. i think they are the best guitar for lead.
happy to see phil x back
-
i think they are the best guitar for lead.
You seem to be forgetting about Les Pauls though :P

great clip
i hadn't forgotten about les pauls, or the other guitars one can play cool leads on.. indeed i really enjoy playing my agile. still stand by my statement though (IMHO at least), but it is true pauls can be a far more versatile guitar - especially in stock form
-
I don't know about the "best" guitar for lead, but a lot of my favourite guitar solos - Blackmore, Trower, Roth, Hendrix - were played on Strats, that's for sure. :)
-
I think my favourite clean/rhythm tone was done on a strat - Little Wing. Not sure what gear was used exactly but it sounds so good.
-
Brazilian Rosewood is now impossible to import into the EU.
As of when? Can't find any details of a recent change, and obviously if that's the case, it hasn't been for long.
Does it only apply to things that have been manufactured after a certain date and only for commercial use/sale?
The Cites website suggests an awful lot of paperwork already which simply gets ignored. IE, every time anyone with pretty much any Gibson/Martin etc from the 50's or 60's crosses a border he needs export/import licenses from both nations...
Hell, if you want to take your Rosewood McCarty to Ireland for a jaunt you need a license from both the UK and Republic of Ireland, but we know you wouldn't bother and nobody would give a shit.
- I did a bit of research after reading this yesterday and spoke to a few guys who are regularly going from country to country with 50's guitars.
-
It's all Braz I believe, nfe.
I know a guy who has tried to personally import a new PRS with a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard from the US. He has all the CITES paperwork, and I mean EVERYTHING from source to PRS, and he has tried to work with the official channels to bring it in. They won't allow it legitimately. Not at all.
Within the EU I think it's OK, as it's already here...
-
I have a hard time believing that customs check guitars to make sure the rosewood isn't Brazilian - surely if you don't make any fuss over the guitar being a Brazilian rosewood PRS there wouldn't be any problem.
-
I'm only going by what I've been told!
I think the problem is that if they DO check it, and find it's Brazilian Rosewood, they can confiscate the guitar and fine you? Something like that anyway.
It's a big gamble I guess, and if you've got a guitar playing customs office checking the package...
-
Crivens.
I wonder if they're being more vigilant. My friend - one of the guys I spoke to yesterday - is Bryan Adams' guitar tech, he takes two '56 D28s and a Brazilian rosewood Moon dreadnought around the world all the time without any paperwork so he says. I certainly know a lot of folks who regularly buy and sell vintage guitars from the states.
Obviously the likes of the Rolling Stones continuously tour with old guitars too, ZZ Top, pretty much any older folky etc.
I thought it would only apply to guitars being manufactured currently.
It has been the case for quite some time though that crossing borders with anything at all (picks, bridge pins, nuts...)made from tortoiseshell or ivory could see you in a prison, never mind with a fine.
-
Maybe, as the ownership doesn't change, the artist guitars your talking about don't class as importing?
Tis scary though, and someone will come a cropper at some point I guess.
-
Yeah that's possible I guess, the CITES website is a little vague, and it depends on individual nations customs regulations too.
-
STOP PRESS
Dave! - there is a blue Strat for sale in 'Seconds Out' - some guy called Martin who dabbles in amps - you may have heard of him...
-
I may even have played that very guitar ;)
I already have one Strat, and that's one too many really...
-

Outrageous!
-
I'm hitting here lately, but this reminds me the strat from Eddie Cleto, supposed to be the first guitar Fender made with rosewood neck... sometime ago the daughter of him showed on Warmoth forum and sent me some pics to post to her (seems like she wasn't very found on internet)... Never read this Norman Harris book, so no idea...

I like this guitar!
That was fascinating! Thanks Fernando! :D
-
You're welcome!
-
I enjoyed that too Fernando thanks. That Eddie looks like a happy guy which is great to see in these days of doom and gloom.
-
Here is part 2 of the Brazillian Rosewood strat ;)

I like the finish on that one - blingy, but from a distance you can hardly tell it's there.
C0cky Boy was a bit subdued at the beginning of that clip. Then I guess the drugs kicked in. :P
-
Amazing finish :o
-
Oooh - I like that. He does look subdued - maybe he realised that he'll never have Philly's love
-
I know it sounds daft, but the strat that wez helped construct the neck on sounds like the 1st one...nice & thick!
-
Oooh - I like that. He does look subdued - maybe he realised that he'll never have Philly's love
Don't get in the middle of that... It's a long story but.. the brothers have always been competitive..
...our Philly Q takes after his mother Philomena, a kind and thoughtful woman but Phil X is more like their adventurous father Phileas who left in disgrace and moved to California while working as a roadie for The Mamas & the Papas.
That's why Phil x is no longer welcomed over for Xmas dinner. :?

 I almost had a hernia laughing at that!
But it's mostly true.

HUAHAHAHAHAHA
