This is a laugh! Gibson are releasing a replica/dedication to a Les Paul copy built by Kris Derrig!
That's a bitter pill to swallow......

I'm having trouble trying to imagine who'd buy it.
It's obviously aimed at Slash Fanboys, but surely they know the history of the guitar and would find a Gibson copy of a copy of a Gibson a bit weird?

How knowledgeable do you think the average slash fanboy is?
Does anyone know what that finish is called by the way? The original was absolutely stunning.
-
Just some sort of faded sunburst isn't it?
The original is a beautiful guitar. The fanboys who would buy this will be well aware of the identity of the Derrig I'm sure!
-
It's a nice Les Paul, so I guess it depends on the price. If the price wasn't too silly and I was in the market for a Les Paul I'd certainly consider it.
-
I like.
I had a poster of that guitar on my wall for 6 years.
It's an 'un-burst' finish. Gibson have released a few.
If I was wadded and was getting a Gibson it would be this one.

A Gibby signature that isn't at a silly price? Really? :D

eh hem...
"Gibson proudly features many different styles of instruments in all price ranges. Our line of “Faded” models offer our hand-built, USA-made guitars at a more affordable price, while our own Custom Shop prides itself in making some of the most awe-inspiring and finely constructed instruments in the world- each one a true work of art by master craftsmen. We even offer many classic Gibson designs with our Epiphone brand in order to make these accessible to as many players as possible. "
-
The pic of the Slash model above is aged, so expect a range of three guitars like the Pearly Gates and Jimmy Page #2 models.
And associated high prices...
-
I do like that. Will be prohibitively expensive of course.
-
I'm sure I read somewhere that Derrig L.P's are awesome and that he uses old timbers more akin to real '59 specs. I'd rock that Gibson if it plays anything like my guitars.

Love that guitar - DROOL!
-
If I did go for an LP it would have to be similar looking to that*
Before having a look on the website I didn't realise that Kris Derrig was so young when he died. And from cancer caused by chemical exposure. Nasty.
*Me finding an LP that I like will be a miracle.

Did you send that stuff I wrote to gibson? Along with anthing else?
This is rather undignified.
Oh, I hear that they're pretended the gibson hendrix strat never existed now

+1 exactly what I thought.
I like, I'm a fanboy.
And I cannot wait for the Saturday Marshall/Slash press conference. Reissue of the 2555 PLEASE!!
-
I love the color of this guitar... this is how I would want a LP...
But hey, they must be freaking kidding me! Cloning the clone??? Rá!
-
What does "traditional style weight relief" on the specs list mean?
Holes in the body?
-
Yep - swiss cheese holes.
-
I don't find it all that ironic that they've copied a copy. After all, it was an LP replica he made, not some radical new design. All he did different, as far as I know, was be picky about materials and attention to detail.
Just another in the long line of overpriced signature Gibsons, IMO.

Well thats Gibson f**ked.. how they gonna copy that?

i did indeed! haha.
i didn't send everything, and i tried to phrase it nicely.
but that was in reply to allegations that they gear there product towards polo players and bankers a bit too much
EDIT: someone NEEDS to build a website solely to show the gibbo hendrix strat. so the world never forgets.

That's the one.
I think all these 'high-end' Gibson signature models are just collectors' pieces really - players might be put off by the fact that it's a copy of a copy (if they'd even read past the price tag) but I don't see it bothering many bankers. Just makes for a story to tell.
-
hahahahaha
-
I like the finish on that guitar, but I wouldn't buy one, I don't think. It's just a step too far in the direction of stalker-ware for me.
I also love how the Gibson press release studiously avoids mentioning that the 'original' was a copy!
-
I think I'd rather have a real Derrig than a lousy copy from Gibson.
This kinda reminds me of someone who does an impression of an impressionist doing the impressionee.
Ok, my head is about to explode from this madness.

Ah yes, the long awaited Gibson Mike Yarwood signature model.

Anyone who got hold of one is lucky - they will be worth a fortune in years to come
-
Gibson will do ANYTHING to make money. Not a bad thing of course as they are a business but they have absolutely no credibility left.
Let me see...
PRS Lawsuit?
Hendrix Guitar?
Robot Guitar?
Reverse Flying V?
Oxblood?
Page No 2?
Pearly Gates?
Kiether Sutherland?
The list just goes on & on...
