New Gibson Slash Les Paul released... (good chuckle inside)
« on: January 14, 2010, 04:09:30 PM »
This is a laugh!  Gibson are releasing a replica/dedication to a Les Paul copy built by Kris Derrig!

That's a bitter pill to swallow......

I'm having trouble trying to imagine who'd buy it.
It's obviously aimed at Slash Fanboys, but surely they know the history of the guitar and would find a Gibson copy of a copy of a Gibson a bit weird?

How knowledgeable do you think the average slash fanboy is?

Does anyone know what that finish is called by the way? The original was absolutely stunning.

Just some sort of faded sunburst isn't it?

The original is a beautiful guitar.  The fanboys who would buy this will be well aware of the identity of the Derrig I'm sure!

It's a nice Les Paul, so I guess it depends on the price. If the price wasn't too silly and I was in the market for a Les Paul I'd certainly consider it.

I like.
I had a poster of that guitar on my wall for 6 years.
It's an 'un-burst' finish. Gibson have released a few.
If I was wadded and was getting a Gibson it would be this one.

A Gibby signature that isn't at a silly price? Really? :D

eh hem...

"Gibson proudly features many different styles of instruments in all price ranges.  Our line of “Faded” models offer our hand-built, USA-made guitars at a more affordable price, while our own Custom Shop prides itself in making some of the most awe-inspiring and finely constructed instruments in the world- each one a true work of art by master craftsmen.  We even offer many classic Gibson designs with our Epiphone brand in order to make these accessible to as many players as possible.  "

The pic of the Slash model above is aged, so expect a range of three guitars like the Pearly Gates and Jimmy Page #2 models.

And associated high prices...

I do like that. Will be prohibitively expensive of course.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Derrig L.P's are awesome and that he uses old timbers more akin to real '59 specs. I'd rock that Gibson if it plays anything like my guitars.

If I did go for an LP it would have to be similar looking to that*

Before having a look on the website I didn't realise that Kris Derrig was so young when he died. And from cancer caused by chemical exposure. Nasty.

*Me finding an LP that I like will be a miracle.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Did you send that stuff I wrote to gibson? Along with anthing else?

This is rather undignified.

Oh, I hear that they're pretended the gibson hendrix strat never existed now
