Damn. Was bidding on an cheapo Vintage PRS-a-like, but was outbid - then saw a really nice Vintage SG for silly cheap. So bid.
And won.
Then it looks like the highest bidder dropped out on the PRS-a-like, and I've won that by default too...
Hmmm...
-
Do you want (or can you afford) 'em both?
I don't think you're obliged to buy the second one if the highest bidder dropped out - but is that the one you'd have preferred?
-
If you can afford it sounds like you might have just got 2 bargains!
-
Well, the SG is the one that I really wanted, that was the second one.
However, I like the look of the PRS-s-liike too...
Really, I'm looking for a home for my Nailbombs - I reckon that a basic, all mahogany SG-a-like will be great.
Got the pair for a shade over £130... Hardly anything really... I'm sure I can find a use for the PRS-s-like...

that's what i'd have thought, but i'm not certain.

Got a feeling the nailbombs will end up in the PRS copy and not the SG copy. Either way your going to have fun finding out what works fro you.
What did you put in the place of the nailbombs in the guitar they were previously in?
-
Accidentally? Yeah right, I'll have to try that one! "Hey honey, you'll never guess what? I only went and accidently, unwittingly and unknowingly bought 2 guitars on Ebay today".
Hope they both work out for you though. Happy new guitars!
-
How about taking the prsalike, relicing the f**k out of it and turning it into a badass slide guitar. You know it makes sense.

The Nailbombs are currently in a Charvel ST Custom stratty thing. Great guitar, but it lends itself far more to a 3 SC config, I think... The plan is to get a BKP prewired scratchplate, maybe with ITs, maybe with the mythical Custom 62's...

Soooo...
Got in last night and made the hour and a bit journey to "the North" (well, Ipswich anyway...) to pick up my new Vingage SG-a-like!!!
First Impressions?
Lovely!
Just what I was after - the basics are there and are superb. Lovely bit of mahogany and a decent construction. Good, straight set neck, good SG dimensions (slim-ish neck, thin body, a little neck heavy), and accoustically it's very resonant. The strings are pretty dead at the moment, and I haven't had a chance to plug it in.
Bad bits - not many. The plastic on is is cheap and nasty; control knobs are nasty. Plastic nut. PUP selector switch is clunky, not smooth. But otherwise, nothing deadly.
The finish is incerdible. It's cherry red, and is as good as the finish on my Jap Charvel, which has a GREAT finish.
Given that this guitar cost me 51 quid plus diesel, I couldn't be happier!!!
The PRS-a-like should arrive today... can't wait to see what THAT'S like!!!

£51 for an SG in ipswich and i missed it? Gutted. Sounds like a fab buy, if anyone's ever around Ipswich I feel sorry for you and will offer you a cup of tea.
-
That does sound like a good buy, nice one :D
-
... and the PRS-a-like turned up today!
It's nice. Doesn't give me the same warm feeling as the SG, but it's a nice guitar - again, a great finish. It's a little more manky than the SG, the strings are very worn and look like they've been on for a year being played relentlessly by a very sweaty fat bloke.
No flaws, as far as I can see... there's a slight paint run on the back of the headstock, although that might just be the dingy lighting in my living room.
It's good.
Need to decide what to do with the buggers now...

I can only reiterate finger the SG (pun slightly intended), slide the PRSesser.
-
nice excuse to buy some mississippi queens for the SG then ;)
-
Sound like you got too more than playable guitars for your money. Will be intrested to see some pictures of the two guitars and here what changes you make to them both.
Glad they both seem to be good buys. Enjoy

So, here were are:

Vintage SG-a-like

Vintage PREsque (see what I did there?!?! Did ya???!
All cleaned, polished, and restrung with 10s.
The SG is an instant fav. It's GREAT to play! Incredibly low action, very flat fretboard. A little choking on the high E string, but I can sort that. I want to get them into a decent state before I decide what to do with them. It's actually a pretty good metal guitar, I think, and will be a GREAT home for my Nailbombs. Fast runs are pretty easy, probably a little easier than on my Charvel, which is odd... The edges of the fretboard are a little sharp, but Wev demo'd a little trick to sort that out.
The PREsque is a little harder to love - again, well put together, but there's something about it...
Both sound pretty decent, and definitely not cheap - the SG sounds a little better. Very SG like, actually - quite a biting sound.
A lot of guitar for about £130, I reckon!

I get the feeling you won't be keeping the PRS, even if there is presque rien wrong with it at the price...
-
and the gags keep coming!!!
-
I was thinking same as Philly how long till it is in the seconds out?
From a distance they both look in good conition. So hopefully if they are not both keepers you can make some money back on the PRS style one. What ever im sure you will have fun trying them out. Enjoy

they both look very nice, especially the SG. and for that price? couldn't beat it with a big stick! :)
but please, for gods' sake, cut those string ends off!!! pet hate of mine :?

Yeah, I know what you mean!
I leave them there on new guitars for a bit - you never know if one has a habit of snaping strings at the bridge end. If it does, you can use the excess to repair, rather than wasting a new string.
Old habit of mine. Once I know what a guitar is like I trim the strings.

I think you've achieved outrageous value for money there mate.
