Arse! I've Accidentally Won 2 Guitars On Ebay!!!
« on: March 09, 2010, 04:33:15 PM »
Damn.  Was bidding on an cheapo Vintage PRS-a-like, but was outbid - then saw a really nice Vintage SG for silly cheap.  So bid.

And won.

Then it looks like the highest bidder dropped out on the PRS-a-like, and I've won that by default too...

Hmmm...

Do you want (or can you afford) 'em both?

I don't think you're obliged to buy the second one if the highest bidder dropped out - but is that the one you'd have preferred?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

Well, the SG is the one that I really wanted, that was the second one.

However, I like the look of the PRS-s-liike too...

Really, I'm looking for a home for my Nailbombs - I reckon that a basic, all mahogany SG-a-like will be great.

Got the pair for a shade over £130...  Hardly anything really...  I'm sure I can find a use for the PRS-s-like...

Got a feeling the nailbombs will end up in the PRS copy and not the SG copy.   Either way your going to have fun finding out what works fro you.

What did you put in the place of the nailbombs in the guitar they were previously in?

Accidentally? Yeah right, I'll have to try that one!   "Hey honey, you'll never guess what? I only went and accidently, unwittingly and unknowingly bought 2 guitars on Ebay today".

Hope they both work out for you though. Happy new guitars!

How about taking the prsalike, relicing the f**k out of it and turning it into a badass slide guitar. You know it makes sense.

The Nailbombs are currently in a Charvel ST Custom stratty thing.  Great guitar, but it lends itself far more to a 3 SC config, I think...  The plan is to get a BKP prewired scratchplate, maybe with ITs, maybe with the mythical Custom 62's...

Soooo...

Got in last night and made the hour and a bit journey to "the North" (well, Ipswich anyway...) to pick up my new Vingage SG-a-like!!!

First Impressions?

Lovely!

Just what I was after - the basics are there and are superb.  Lovely bit of mahogany and a decent construction.  Good, straight set neck, good SG dimensions (slim-ish neck, thin body, a little neck heavy), and accoustically it's very resonant.  The strings are pretty dead at the moment, and I haven't had a chance to plug it in.

Bad bits - not many.  The plastic on is is cheap and nasty; control knobs are nasty.  Plastic nut.  PUP selector switch is clunky, not smooth.  But otherwise, nothing deadly.

The finish is incerdible.  It's cherry red, and is as good as the finish on my Jap Charvel, which has a GREAT finish.

Given that this guitar cost me 51 quid plus diesel, I couldn't be happier!!!

The PRS-a-like should arrive today...  can't wait to see what THAT'S like!!!

... and the PRS-a-like turned up today!

It's nice.  Doesn't give me the same warm feeling as the SG, but it's a nice guitar - again, a great finish.  It's a little more manky than the SG, the strings are very worn and look like they've been on for a year being played relentlessly by a very sweaty fat bloke.

No flaws, as far as I can see...  there's a slight paint run on the back of the headstock, although that might just be the dingy lighting in my living room.

It's good.

Need to decide what to do with the buggers now...
