I bought an amp from guitarguitar.co.uk and paid for it to be delivered today. I phoned them up to tell them there's been a problem and was told I would be refunded the money if it didn't arrive today.
I'm fine with that but now I can't see what's going on with my amp, I don't know what depot it's, nothing. I'm using the same details as before.
Any one else had problems with this company?
-
bought a vht deliverance from them and it was delivered with no issues a while back
-
Got my Bogner from them, no problems whatsoever.
Give them a call between 11 and 5 tomorrow on 0800 456 1959
-
I'm sure it will be fine, they will sort it. They are reputable and you will be fully covered.
-
Don't freak out. Give it a few more days and it will come. Those tracking systems aren't up to speed quite often and get updates many hours after an event has occured.
Just relax and wait, everything else is wasted energy.
-
I just got a call from Guitarguitar and it looks as though the courier has misrouted the amp. So they're chasing it up looking for answers.
-
Bad news, the courier has lost my amp. I don't quite know how you lose a 2 x 12 combo, a letter I can understand but not a box that's quite heavy.
Guitarguitar have apologised and they're going to look into possibly sorting me out with a Jet City JCA20 combo.
is 20 watts loud enough for playing heavy music? 20 watts clean is no problem but I wonder about distortion.
-
I'd wager it's not lost, it's stolen.

What amp was it you bought in the 1st place if you don't mind my asking?
-
Laney VC30 2 x 12.
I think it's been stolen too, you just don't lose something like that.

Main reason I asked is that they seemed pretty quick to offer up the Jet City combo. How does that value against the Laney you actually paid for?

What happened to the refund they mentioned before? That's got to be the best option for you (but not them), unless the Jet City is worth more than the Laney.
-
The Jet City is £349 new and I paid £299 used for the Laney. They asked if I wanted a refund or if there was anything else I would want and I mentioned the Jet City combo so they're shipping that out today and I should get it tomorrow.
If I'm not happy with it, it's going back and I'll get a refund and look else where.
-
ah ok, if what you're getting is worth more, fair enough.
I would say maybe don't worry too much yet (you've done everything right by contacting them), the last tokai i bought took about a week longer to arrive than it should have, and it turned up eventually.
-
I'd wager it's not lost, it's stolen.
Or maybe it got sold twice!
And only one person could have it..............
-
Aha! Good point!
-
is it not that easy to just get another combo from Laney though if that is the case? maybe get it sent direct from factory?
-

It did seem like they were very quick to accept it was "lost".
We've all had bad experiences with post/couriers, and the 1 time it goes wrong makes us forget the 99 times there was no problem. It makes them easy scapegoats when something apparently goes missing.

If you have the same stock listed in your online shop as you have in your real shop it is possible for an item to be sold in the shop and then be sold again online before you have had a chance to change the online inventory.
A very tricky situation with no tidy answer.

This happened often with my previous company.

It's easy to imagine that happening, but surely the answer is to be honest and tell one of the buyers that there's been an error (I realise it might be difficult to determine who got there first).
To go through with the charade of "sending" the item then saying it's been "lost" - as they may have done here - is just ridiculous.

This is the reason why most serious online shops state in their T&Cs that the deal only took place once they reconfirmed the order.
But Jonathan, if that would have been the issue, they wouldn't have been able to issue a tracking number, would they?

Well things have made a funny turn. The Laney has been delivered to me...............so has the Jet City
So I've played with both of them and the Jet City is far far better. So the Laney is being returned. I could of just kept quite and sold the Laney and made my money back but I don't have it in me to be that dishonest.
-
see - the universe has been kind to you !
-
Things are doing well recently. Lots of work, new gear and I'm saving up for an engagement ring for my girlfriend. So things aren't too bad right now :D

sweet, even without being dishonest, you've done well- by getting to try both you've got to pick the best one :D
-
Yeah I'm very happy about that. The Laney's cleans were cool but when using the gain past 5 it gets very very thin and fuzzy. Probably poor quality valves but I can't be bothered to change them.
The Jet City is awesome though.

I had an LC30-II a few years ago and that had the same problem you describe. Mine turned out to be a rubbish Invader speaker.
Glad you got an amp you like though! :D

I think you're doing the right thing returning the Laney. Bad karma to pretend it hadn't turned up.
It was good that you got the chance to make a direct comparison. :)
-
I am pleased that all has turned out ok but was slightly concerned about your choosing to send the Laney back as I have one. But then I saw that you quite liked the cleans and I only have mine on clean or just breaking up settings so all truly is well in the world.

yeah those jet cities are meant to be great for the money, but I haven't been able to try them yet :(
-
The Laney needs to be cranked, they have basic master volumes that only really benefit at stage volumes.
Then they sound great.
Did you try them both cranked?
I would guess the Jet City has a lot more going on in the preamp to get better sounds at lower volumes.
The 2x12 VC30's are loud and definitely gigging amps.....
-
I've had Laneys before so I know how to get them to work at their peak. But the VC30 just isn't for me.
I had a rehearsal last night and the Jet City was amazing. It's definitely loud enough to compete with my drummer who's very loud. Super impressed.
Except one of the valves has died, which pissed me off but I suppose it's to be expected with cheapy china valves. So I'm going to get a replacement later.
-
tell guitarguitar about the valve. I had a microphonic valve in the Uberschall they sent me and they sent me a free valve to replace it. a groove tube 12AX7. but If you have a preference then best get your own.
The JCA20 is the Soldano Atomic 16 preamp with a bigger power amp. so im told.
