Virgin are upping the speed to 100meg on the 7th. I'm getting it on the 17th with HD Tv with the recorder box ect.
I was on Bt for 4 years but I have had no broadband for a month and they can't work out what's wrong with it, so I f*cked them off.
100 meg blimey, just think of the things you could do with that once everyone catches up with it. Online TV channels, Films at a click ect

I have just short of 20mb now and the internet cant really keep up with it as a majority.
There are a few sites that really take advantage of higher speeds and its great for hosting online gaming.
The best thing i have found is using it with newsgroups.
2.6mbs download speed its pretty awesome.
I envy you as i'm no longer in a cabled area (well my street is but my block of flats isn't due to the landlord being an ass) so i just have BT but im one of the lucky ones thats about 15ft from the exchange.
I'm paying for 8mb and getting roughly 19mb.
At my old house which was half an hour down the road i was lucky if i could get 1.5mb

I'm switching to cable this month (I'm moving). Really fed up with BT based services. You can pretty much forget about streaming video between 5+7 here :(

I know how you feel on that from my last property.
Virgin are bad for it too though
they actually cut your speed by 50% exactly between 5-10pm on weekdays
however if you just had the 20mb one that 10mb is still nearly twice as fast as most people get on BT

The retention adviser lied to me about the broadband width saying it wasn't possible to get over 1mb download with my line. This was despite getting 4mb the year before. So I went to 02 and now have my old speed back at a much cheaper price. I'll never go back.
I'd love 100mb though. Not sure what I'd use it for

Nice, my mate gets something similar and it's so quick :) We're lucky to get above 2 meg in the village I live in :x

I can't stand BT. We're paying for 20meg broadband and we're not even getting 1meg. They lied to us so now I'm trying to switch to Virgin. Which is a bit more expensive but at least you'll get what you pay for :x

I'm getting phone,broadband and TV for less than phone and broadband with BT (although TBF I'm on the top BT package)

You have to use stuff like usenext.
That is the only way you will notice the differences you can get about 700mb in 6 minutes

They didn't technically Lie as all there stuff says up to* but i agree it is very sneaky also the fact that they dont let you downgrade to a package closer to what you get for 6 months is really shitety of them

When i was with virgin i didn't quite get 20mb it was very close though at about 19.4mb

This virgin package has HD TV. It's supposed to be going to 300meg next year too. I think with speeds like this the net is going to turn a corner with what it's capable of doing.
I'm looking forward to using useneXt with this new high speed.

You may even max out on usenext i think there servers only go up to 50mb
but still that will be awesome

I assume you people are talking about Mbits not MB as in Megabytes?

Yes 50 meg dowloading is insane speeds. I can get 15 gig a month but i can see that running out before the months out.
Yes its in megabits not megabytes but give it a few years, you never know!

Our BT internet is completely buggered. No phone line either so we phoned them to sort it out and apparently it takes a week to sort it out so we're now going with Virgin on wednesday for 20 mbs. Thank god.

I get 100 meg at uni, Downloaded AoE III in under 10 minutes (Around 3gb file).
Otherwise though, it isn't amazing. Unless I decide to browse the guardian reallyreallyfast.

Well we finally got virgin now. Getting a constant 19.5 meg as to the 0.5 meg I was getting with BT :lol: I can finally play my PS3 games online with out needing to tell every one to not use their laptops for a bit and I can finally use the BBc Iplayer :D

When I looked at switching, other providers were telling me that I had a charge to pay for living next to the BT Phone exchange. £8 a month or something stupid like that.

not many reasons to think yourself as lucky if you're in hull.
i was looking at getting a virgin package for my new flat. probably wouldn't go with 100meg.
I asked some crazy pop up person about what speed was the average, and i got a copy and paste answer telling me that virgin uses "unique" fibre optic cables that guarantees bandwidth... I told her i'd heard of those fibre doo daars.
I don't understand why it costs LESS to get TV+Phone+Broadband than it does to get only TV+Broadband.

A lot of the time it's MW2 just because it's quick to set up and shoot people for a game or too. I was playing Fallout 3 untill my brother overwrote everything :x
Fallout New Vegas and Blacks Ops will be next.
Quite liking the other channels, I got to catch up with Frankie Boyles new show and other things.

haha. I like the friends i have in hull. i played a show in a bikers lock up there. Satans Slaves east coast chapter. that was a good gig! I also played a show there were a kid dislocated his knee and people thought my american buddies were all polish immigrants. pretty funny really. My mate there works as a bouncer in town. crazy.
