technically its an Octave 12 electric guitar, but has been named the MandoSG. It has a vintage rickenbacker pickup - but is recessed in a route that will also accept a P-90, sounds pretty sweet as it is though
its the little brother to this

A little different, looks nice. I would be keen to here how it sounds.

I don't know what I'd do with it, but it's cute as anything! :D

Awesome! :D

And oh how they danced
The little children of Stonehenge
Beneath the haunted moon
For fear that daybreak might come too soon
And where are they now?
The little children of Stonehenge
And what would they say to us?
If we were here... tonight

cool instrument wez

Wez, I've loved practically every guitar related thing I've seen you make.
However, that is an abomination!
It's like Mini-Me in Austin Powers!!!
(love the "proper" SG though...)
Mark.

There was a stonehenge monument in danger of being crushed. By a dwarf.

abomination is harsh if it sound good then it is a winner

love the full size SG, very John Birch. I know I keep threatening this, but I'm gonna have an SG off you some day Wez - you seem to get the cut 'just right'; like the old ones.

Yup, they're both pretty vile too!

Cool!

I think it looks pretty cool as well, Wez :D
Not sure I'd ever go for one though, I'd be more likely to find a use for a "real" acoustic mandolin.
Funnily enough, for some reason I don't even regard the Vox as an "abomination". I think it's got something to do with "I'm making a sound you can't get out of your strat/prs/lp/etc... I get it from THIS... HA! ... I look cool because I sound so cool, you losers..."

Goin' To My Home Town, anyone?

Goin' To My Home Town, anyone?
+1
Exactly :D
Saw him do it 4 or 5 times. Before I saw it first time, if you'd said 1 mandolin, 1 bass and a drummer could rock like that I'd have just laughed... I even learnt to play mandolin in the early 80s because of it, but I never owned own of my own.
-
Wez, is that "big" SG all your own work, or a pimped Gibson?
Mark.

all my own
its a laminated, carbon fibre reinforced through neck with carved away (john birch style) heel, 25.5" scale and 24 frets

It's awesome - just my kind of SG. Looks evil.
(and I'm not just saying that because I was so rude about the little runt that you created...)

Are you sure you haven't just slipped into "lying-to-relatives" mode, ready for trouble-free christmas festivities?

Ah, that doesn't only happen in my family, then?

It looks great Wez. I have lots of things ready to try it on. Just in case people didn't realise, it's a short scale 12 string guitar, not an 8 string like a mandolin. I am thinking that it will be great for songs like Gallows Pole and some English folk that I wanted to do.
-
yep,
12 strings tuned an octave higher than a standard 12 string guitar... and it does do E-standard tuning too, although i did have a g-octave string snap on me twice now. (since this is 14 1/4" scale thats the equivilent of tuning the high e on a 28.5" scale up to G - so i wasnt surprised both times it happened to me! - just testing its limits)
It will work tuned in unison with the main string or all tuned down to D- standard. And this is 1 1/2" shorter scale length than most mando-guitars, god knows what the tension is like on them!

just a little test clip with bad playing ;)
