Title: Doug bores up another Orange demo

I'd really like to know who signed this doucher to be their demo guy. Everything he touches, he turns boring and sterile. Watching any more than 2 videos of this guy, in a row, will make you want to put a bullet through your face every time he uses the phrase "and it sounds great."

Compare that to the ProGuitarShop demo of the TH30 (same gain stage as the Dark Terror).

the TH30 sounds better than the Dark Terror in those demos. Have you seen schems of the two?
I was just wondering how the power switching worked in the two, if it was doing pentode/triode switching, but they ain't, which is good.

I  have an original Tiny Terror schematic laying around. Pretty simple.
Orange claims that the Dark Terror has an identical gain stage to the TH30's dirty channel.

I've played both of them, and the Dark Terror has a slightly more boring power stage, as the transformers are cheap.

ive seen the original tiny terror schem. ive not seen the TH30 one. I wondered if the Dark Terror might have been along the same lines as the Phaez Daisycutter. Using a cathodyne PI to free up a preamp triode to be used to add gain. Older bigger oranges had cathodynes, so i thought it might be possible. I wonder how well the loop works. I thought a lot of the gain tone came from the EL84's getting pushed, at least in the original tiny terror. So a loop before the output stage might not be ideal, depending on what someone is using the amp for. Can't really add a loop after the output though. I know the gain and loop were added according to customer request. The transformers might be cheap but they should be ok. I know the head Tech at orange pays attention to what goes into those amps, it's not just some bean counter.
I wouldn't be surprised if the output transformer from a Dark Terror is the same size as a Mesa Single Recto OT.

cheers for that. not seen this for a while.
interesting use of a cross-line frequency cut for the tone control.

Haven't been able to find a TH30 schem. They're too new, I think.

I watched the Doug Doppler clip and didn't think it was that bad.... but good lord, that TH30 demo sounds great.  :o

That TH30 sounds really constricted in the midrange, not fond AT ALL.

The Dark Terror sounded way more musical.

The TH30 does sound great in real, too. I am still very tempted for real low volume playing. Great little amp indeed!!

Where did you get to try a dark terror?  I don't know any store that has one yet.  At least not in the US.

My mate knows a guy in Phillie that has a music shop. He collects Oranges as a hobby. Somehow, wound up with one.
He's a shady dude, so I didn't ask how.

Ah, my amp collection's feeble, it's nothing like my guitar collection..... I only have a Tiny Terror, 1x12", "Rat" modified Harley Benton GA5, Pod XT and an old, broken Sessionette 75.

Yeah, but I'm only a farting-around-at-home kind of "guitar player".  I'll never gig, and I don't want to disturb the neighbours....

It would be nice to have a really good little amp with Power Scaling like a Suhr Badger or Fargen Mini Plex - and there are probably similar amps I've never heard of - but those things are pricey.  I don't hesitate to spend money on guitars, but I'm much more reluctant with amps!

Philly, I think you like this one, not a bargain but it doesn't break the bank either  :)

The head does (here in Holland) 777 euro, a stack 998. You don't see them much used, but now and then one comes by on ebay.
www.maxguitarstore.com have them on stock.
