Anyone know about BKP's cables?
-
Only that Tim's posted about them in "Latest News".
-
I heard about them on, ahem, twitter...
Immediately followed the link and found that they come in two lengths...
Other than that...

TWITTER???!!!
I would never have thought you'd be a Twitterer..... :P

I imagine theyre just the same as the normal van damme cables that you can get on ebay for £14 just with a bkp logo slapped on the jack.
If so they are very nice cables. I use them exclusively but I use the even lower capacitance ones.

Yea it appears that it's regular VDC instrument cable and Neutrik connectors- nice touch with the BKP logo, though!
-
I've been getting the same cable with the same jacks in the same and custom lengths for cheaper from somewhere else for years, so I'll carry on doing that.
I like the fact they've added cables to the mix though.

Cleartone?
They're cleartones. The BK cables, that is. In that they're van damme and neutrik. I dont use anything but cleartones (they just cut the cable and solder it up for you).

I got pestered into having a couple by Ben last time I ordered a pickup - so should ono about them in the next week or so.
I like Neutrik connectors on good cables - I often make up my own although I also use Whirlwind as they are good quality.

Speaking of low capacitance cables I came across this a couple of days ago:
Ritchie Fliegler: Speaking of cables, something to think about – you can spend hundreds of dollars on low-capacitance cables now, and indeed they work: The lower the capacitance of the cable, the more high frequencies will come through, especially if the guitar’s volume control is backed off at all. However, just remember that whether you’re talking about Fender or Marshall or Mesa/Boogie or whoever, the guys who designed these guitars and these amps did not use these expensive low-capacitance cables. So your basic 20-foot Pro Co cable with your Les Paul or your Strat through your Fender or your Marshall — that’s the sound the designers wanted you to hear. That doesn’t mean if you prefer the sound of the expensive cables you’re wrong. Not at all. We all have our preferences. But it’s worth remembering what the designers were using when they put it all together and said, “This is the sound we want.”

Yep, that's the 1s!

Excellent ! I have loved using Clear tone cables for some years now ; I think it was Twinfan that put me onto them at the outset. I play a clean / detailed style - and the Cleartones have always been as detailed and revealing a cable - as B.K.Ps have been a detailed and revealing pickup.

When are you too clear and detailed?

Good question !
To clarify my description further , I sometimes switch over to a 'Monster' Jazz Cable, if I want a silky rounding off of the edgiest highs - and general 'artificial sweetener' - without losing articulation on the quieter phrasing and vibrato e.t.c. Cleartone cables usually mean slightly tamed E.Q arrangements being needed on the Amplifier / Amp modeller itself, for Chord Melody work .
However ;
Between the two brands of cable , the Cleartone would be the great all rounder - and have more edge / sparkle if the guitar /pickups were capable of giving me edge and sparkle to begin with. In that way I would say Cleartone cables seem to track the guitar output more faithfully, but if one is playing a very clean yet traditionally slightly muted tone / style , the Monster Jazz cable quickly changes any amp into 'That Jazz Thang' - with minimum E.Q changes on the Amplifier / pots on the guitar. For my purposes, there would be such a thing as a cable being too honest , even if I wanted it to sound otherwise clear. Bear in mind, my Amps for this style would be predominantly solid state amps ( Roland Cube / Henrikksen Jazzamp / Phil Jones A.A.D Cub / Guitar Rig 3 Modeling e.t.c ) - so the end results would not be running through / being tamed by, nice hot and sweaty Valves . 8)

I use a Vovox in studio and a cheaper cable for practicing ang gigs. This 'cheaper' cable is very similar to the BKP cable with similar construction and the right capacitance for my ears (around 80 pF per meter). I use 15' (around 5 m) cables with top Neutrik plugs and I love the tone with my Strat with Apaches!
