I picked up a super check strat yesterday And I really don't have any sort of metal guitar. I'm not positive that It's alder because it's hard to find info on this strat. It's a Mexican made "60s" fat strat in wine red. Someone said it might be one from around 2005
I'm leaning towards the juggernaut. I want something that's tight but not dry like the aftermath with plenty of output. Something along the lines of newer prog metal.

Juggernaut of course ! 8)
You can't go wrong with this one. My Silhouette is very similar to your Fender i think (same woods) and in this guitar this pickup sounds amazing.
-
haven`t checked them yet, but Juggs without the doubt.
Is it only H-H or H-S-H?
As I wrote in the previous thread, Ill be sorting out my old Ibanez copy with Juggs and TS in the middle (HSH).
-
It would either be hss or just a single humbucker. Haven't decided
-
Yeah, Juggernaut is a good option. You have a present-month hey. One more month to go and you have the complete BKP-line... :)
-
Yeah, Juggs seem to be the way to go. Personally I would probably go HSS with a TS in there. For anything prog I appreciate extra versatility in tone and for me I feel a single HB might be too little on that front, though it might be interresting to challenge one self in the way you play with your fingers and volume / tone knob in order to achieve these things.

Yeah I'm thinking of taking the Stockholm out from the hss with trilogys and maybe I could put a jugg in there and having the Stockholm alone

How does the situation look like with HSH with set of Juggs and TS in the middle?
What would you recommend, plain middle TS or with the baseplate? Stock wound or RWRP?
I`ve also read somewhere that some people would in that case put NECK single coil in the middle possition to give it more smoothness and match it with set of humbuckers.
we`re talking about metal/proggresive metal type of music.
cheers

You have a few guitars with just the one HB slot yeah? Probably not a bad idea if you don't find the TS such a good match. The Juggernaut is the lowest output bridge pickup in the contemporary line (besides the Black Hawk) so it should be a better match if you find that the Stockholm is a bit hot for them.
I'd put the Stockholm in that nice looking black Strat with the stripe on it. The Stockholm is very well suited to a one pickup guitar. To get the most out of it though I would add a tone pot to that guitar.

I'd have to route out the wood to fit another humbucker

yeah i'm always moving stuff around so thats always a possibility

An alternative pairing with the TS pickups in a HSS config would be a Painkiller, which BKP do offer with the TS as one of their standard HSS sets. In terms of rated output though it is about the same as the Stockholm. If you really feel that you think a lower output HB could be a better match with the TS then maybe the Juggernaut would be the one. I also tend to think that a Holy Diver might be a good match, but I have no idea whether they work in Strats.

Just saying, out of all the high output BKP's the Blackhawk is actually probably the hottest, if you compared it to the Warpig it would just sound louder and have more power to every note you hit.

I meant your several purchases of BKP's, giving yourself some nice presents. I would do the same, but I'm planning on getting me a G-System for an easier stage-setup.

yeah, I know that, but I was asking about my case with old Ibanez copy guitar and HSH configuration. :)

Oh I gotcha! Yes I'd say that would work really well

but which version of middle TS would suit the best with Juggs set?
Plain middle TS or with the baseplate? Stock wound or RWRP?

If I were you I would put a neck TS with a base plate personally. I like the neck pickup much more than the middle

Well, that's why I sort of put it in brackets because the resistance figure doesn't seem to give a good indication of the output we hear. The Juggernaut on the other hand seems a more conventional design (besides the magnet mix) so I figured comparing with the Painkiller and Aftermath in terms of those figures might be more reliable.
On the other hand I don't trust comparing P-90s and Fender single coils with humbuckers in those terms. P-90s always seem to be at least as high as a humbucker of the same rating whereas the Fender style ones do not.

is that configuration common? Is putting neck single coil into middle possition well practised? I`ve read it somewhere but don`t have much more information.
thanks.

I assumed that they were the same pickup and they just sounded different because of where they are located relative to the strings. The output is the same, right?

output is the same, indeed. What about wiring, would that be the same as well? If yes, they are the same pickups then.

Definitely something I would ask ben or Tim. I personally don't think a couple inches would be the only thing that changes the tone so drastically between the neck and middle pickup
-
Your middle might sound different because it is RWRP.
Personally I would have gone with stock wound, as in most positions the hum will be there anyway. Like most Gibson players I rarely play between positions ... I guess Fender guys are used to it though

Well - in my experience it really does. I have swapped neck and middle pickups to achieve the desired humcancelling combinations in at least two guitars and have not noticed a difference in tone of the individual pickups (these were not BKPs but I believe the results with BKPs would have been the same).
BTW I am not really a middle pickup player and much prefer the neck or bridge pickups.
Going by specs it appears that neck and middle pickup are the same in each SC set but in the end only the BKP team can give you positive assurance on that.
Cheers Stephan
