best metal humbucker for an alder strat with maple/rosewood?
« on: November 06, 2013, 02:56:49 AM »
I picked up a super check strat yesterday And I really don't have any sort of metal guitar.  I'm not positive that It's alder because it's hard to find info on this strat.  It's a Mexican made "60s" fat strat in wine red.  Someone said it might be one from around 2005

I'm leaning towards the juggernaut. I want something that's tight but not dry like the aftermath with plenty of output.  Something along the lines of newer prog metal.

Juggernaut of course !  8)
You can't go wrong with this one. My Silhouette is very similar to your Fender i think (same woods) and in this guitar this pickup sounds amazing.

haven`t checked them yet, but Juggs without the doubt.

Is it only H-H or H-S-H?

As I wrote in the previous thread, Ill be sorting out my old Ibanez copy with Juggs and TS in the middle (HSH).

It would either be hss or just a single humbucker. Haven't decided

Yeah, Juggernaut is a good option. You have a present-month hey. One more month to go and you have the complete BKP-line...   :)

Yeah, Juggs seem to be the way to go. Personally I would probably go HSS with a TS in there. For anything prog I appreciate extra versatility in tone and for me I feel a single HB might be too little on that front, though it might be interresting to challenge one self in the way you play with your fingers and volume / tone knob in order to achieve these things.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Yeah I'm thinking of taking the Stockholm out from the hss with trilogys and maybe I could put a jugg in there and having the Stockholm alone

How does the situation look like with HSH with set of Juggs and TS in the middle?
What would you recommend, plain middle TS or with the baseplate? Stock wound or RWRP?

I`ve also read somewhere that some people would in that case put NECK single coil in the middle possition to give it more smoothness and match it with set of humbuckers.

we`re talking about metal/proggresive metal type of music.
cheers

You have a few guitars with just the one HB slot yeah?  Probably not a bad idea if you don't find the TS such a good match.  The Juggernaut is the lowest output bridge pickup in the contemporary line (besides the Black Hawk) so it should be a better match if you find that the Stockholm is a bit hot for them.

I'd put the Stockholm in that nice looking black Strat with the stripe on it. The Stockholm is very well suited to a one pickup guitar.  To get the most out of it though I would add a tone pot to that guitar.

I'd have to route out the wood to fit another humbucker

An alternative pairing with the TS pickups in a HSS config would be a Painkiller, which BKP do offer with the TS as one of their standard HSS sets.  In terms of rated output though it is about the same as the Stockholm.  If you really feel that you think a lower output HB could be a better match with the TS then maybe the Juggernaut would be the one.  I also tend to think that a Holy Diver might be a good match, but I have no idea whether they work in Strats.

Just saying, out of all the high output BKP's the Blackhawk is actually probably the hottest, if you compared it to the Warpig it would just sound louder and have more power to every note you hit.

I meant your several purchases of BKP's, giving yourself some nice presents. I would do the same, but I'm planning on getting me a G-System for an easier stage-setup.
