24 fret telecaster?

hey guys

I currently have a Fender HM strat which I love but I am kinda wanting a new guitar. My idea is basically a 24 fret telecaster, Ive been looking around but I've not had much luck. Fender made a guitar called a "blackout" which looks like it might do the job but theyre really hard to find in the UK.
I was possibly thinking of just buying a telecaster body and 24 fret neck separate but I dunno would this work or would I end up with terrible action and other problems. my dream is to have a sunburst telecaster body with a 24 fret fender HM strat maple neck, JEM frets, and a Nailbomb in the bridge with two trilogies. I think this would be a pretty cool unique guitar but dunno if it's possible or not.

Theoretically you can get a Warmoth Tele neck with 24 fret extension.  However there are a few problems with it:
1. It would cover the neck pickup, so you'd need a non-standard pickup rout
2. Access to the top frets would be very poor (the neck joins the body in the same place)

In other words, it's technically viable but would be practically useless & look odd.  JMHO, YMMV etc...

Played one. LOVED it, the Pearly Gates works so damn well and it looks different.

The strat neck may fit (I don't know personally)

but scale length, the 12th fret has to be half way down the string length

so half of 25 1/2 inches is where the 12th fret should be sitting.

That would change the scale length and f*ck things up - the distance from the nut to the 12th fret should be the same as the distance from the 12th fret to the bridge.

Hard to say.  Most strat necks will fit a Tele neck pocket (but not the other way round), but IIRC the HM strat had a non-standard neck pocket which isn't compatible.

As Will correctly points out (& this Warmoth page also explains), if the screw holes on the 24fret neck are at different points relative to the frets (e.g. under frets 19 & 22 instead of 17 & 20) then each fret will be further from the bridge than with the 22 fret neck, the scale length will be more like 26¼" & the guitar won't intonate correctly.  So no, the HM strat probably won't fit a Tele body...

Cool information, sounds like a total pain in the arse to get so I think I'll just try and get a blackout. Theyre not made anymore does anyone know anywhere which I might be able to get one?

only the warmoth necks can be used on a 22 fret guitar, to get 24 frets. they are built the same as a 22fret neck, they just have a 2 fret extension over the butt of the neck.

Don't know how well it fits with your plans/budget, but Carvin do a 24-fret Tele, the TL60, with all the options you could ever want:

Carvins a bit out of my price range and I really like the idea of owning a Fender made telecaster, thanks for the info tho.

I'm currently looking at getting one of those fender blackout telecasters off ebay but I'm worried about getting burned. My current guitar was a Fender Hm strat from the USA and you should have seen the state it came in, nothing like in the photo I had to spend a packet to get it up and running.

If anyone knows anywhere with a fender tele blackout for sale give me a shout!
