I do envy the versatility.
I do not envy the weight you have to carry around
I dug my Einstein, but sold it then as I looked for something more forgiving/vintage. Guess for heavy or shred, any Diezel is a perfect match.
I tested two VH4s, one of them was real bad, the other one was great sounding, guess you have to make sure there is a properly matched set of tubes and correctly biased in there.
Cheers dude, I guess I've got one of the good sounding ones ;).
But seriously, that surprises me - Diezel is known for being incredibly strict on quality control. The amps ship with high-quality tubes (Rubys), biased properly (not really cold, like most manufacturers).
Maybe the two amps you tried had different powertubes in them. The VH4 can take pretty much any type, and used to ship with 6L6s till not too long ago, when they changed to EL34s..
The weight of the head isn't too much of an issue at the moment. It's going in a live-in amp and rack flightcase pretty soon anyway. That will weigh a fair bit, but should make setting up and absolute doddle.
The cab, on the other hand, is an absolute b*tch to move around. About 10kgs heavier than your average 4x12, no casters, and too wide to get a good reach around on your own.
I tried one at LGS last year with a Vigier and it was god-awful! Then the one I tried last Friday was just tonal Nirvana. Only difference was that I played into a Soldano 4x12 this time round.
Guitar shows are hardly great places to get an impression of an amp though mate. Unless you tried it in that soundproof booth Diezel have had at shows recently of course.
Did you have the Columbus footswitch with it?
I PM'd you back, but I'll repeat it here anyway. I'm going to be using a TC Electronics G-system to do my MIDI switching, as well as for effects and whatever.
