ibanez 7 string question
« on: August 03, 2008, 02:43:03 PM »
Hi all,

I am tossing up whether or not to get a 7 string for a bit of mucking around with lower tunings, and my question is 2 fold i guess.

does anyone know how the ibanez goes with heavier gauge strings?  and also how much difference would there be between a 25.5" and a 26.5" scale neck on the string tension, the reason i ask this is because i was thinking about maybe looking a schecter hellraiser 7 FR, if the i didnt like the ibanez.

cheers Jason
EDIT: i am looking at the Ibanez s7320.  This additional information will be helpful i guess

I have an Ibanez RG470F (6 string) which I've loaded up with d'Addario Jazz strings (EJ22) tuned to A-E-A-D-F#-B. The low string is a touch on the flappy side, but in general the guitar copes pretty well. I'm looking at going custom, though, just to make sure the low tunings are optimal, as I play quite a lot of fastish riffs low down, and the string tension could use being a bit better.

Not sure if that helps you or not :)

This thread seems pretty relevant:  http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/sevenstring-guitars/63769-so-my-ibanez-cant-take-larger-string.html

Are you planning on going back and forth between lower tunings and standard with the heavy strings?  That's probably not a good idea but if you're just sticking to low tunings by all means get heavy strings.

Thanks for the link.  I will be just sticking with low tuning, i already have a PRS custom that i use for standard tuning.

Hello,

I have an Ibanez s7320 with Nail Bomb in bridge.
I test some differents gauge, the best (for me) with a classic tunig (B E A D G B E) is :

010-013-017-030-044-052 from GHS TNT and 062.
