pau ferro should sound like ebony while looking like rosewood...

what makes you say that.   i have used it and consider it to be a good rosewood substitute but it aint ebony or IE rosewood

its a bit paler than the best IE rosewood, quite brick coloured in fact.  It is quite oily but  not as good as the best IE rosewood. slightly smoother which makes it like ebony i suppose but i would not say  it is better than a good IE rosewood or a good ebony.  a great Pau ferro/santos rosewood is similar in colour to a good IE rosewood and similar in texture to a good ebony.  kinda between the two but not fantastic at being either

I've just been looking at the different neck woods on the Warmoth site - I'd love to get a purpleheart neck for my purple sunburst Strat!  :D  God knows how much it would cost, though...

There was one or two at showcase untill a month or so ago...
IIRC it was $337 (about the same price you would be asked if custom order it...)

PS: Oh it's so easy to get one, I think you should try :twisted:

If you ask they must even have some FIGURED purpleheart on the tons of wood on stock :twisted:

id love to see a photo of that!

This is the only one I have as I haven't picked it up yet.  Will Scott (the luthier), tells me that it sustains for days and sounds incredible.
