pau ferro should sound like ebony while looking like rosewood...
what makes you say that. i have used it and consider it to be a good rosewood substitute but it aint ebony or IE rosewood
its a bit paler than the best IE rosewood, quite brick coloured in fact. It is quite oily but not as good as the best IE rosewood. slightly smoother which makes it like ebony i suppose but i would not say it is better than a good IE rosewood or a good ebony. a great Pau ferro/santos rosewood is similar in colour to a good IE rosewood and similar in texture to a good ebony. kinda between the two but not fantastic at being either
