Stupid wiring question of the day - aka HELP!

I'm fitting some mid 70s greenbacks (thanks Ian/HTH!) to my Martamp 2x12".

2x16'ohm = 8ohm

I've got 4 cables, 2 red and 2 black. I know that  2 red go to the positive and 2 blacks go to the negative of one speaker because that's how Martin wired it... but then... it would seem that 1 black and 1 red go off to the neg/pos of the other speaker and the other black and red go off to the jack (Martin has wired the 2 jacks together)? Does it matters which pair of black and reds go to the speaker and which to the jack? Or am I waaaaaaay off?

Bear in mind I'm a complete wiring noob!!

You need it in series:

Jack positive to positive of first speaker - red cable
Negative of first speaker to positive of second speaker - red or black cable
Negative of second sepaker to jack negative - black cable

Not sure why you had 4 cables, as you only need 3????

aha the way you described its sounds fantasticly simple! Cheer Dave  8)

No idea about the 4 cables but they were all wired up somehow

Edits: how do I know which is the pos and which is the neg lug of the jack or does it not matter?

Are you sure it's series I need not parallel? It's parallel going by this site http://colomar.com/Shavano/2x12wiring.html it would make sense with the 4 cables too?

 2 - 16 ohm speakers = 8 ohms ?

Sorry mate - I gave you series for two 8ohm speakers to give a 16ohm load.  Read the post too quick.

You need parallel - ignore me!

hehe no worries - all working now.

When Ian/HTH says something sounds good he means it, these speakers are $%&#ing great, it's like night and day against the old speakers!
