I didnt get to play it acoustically (woulda been too much noise goin on!) so I couldnt really tell what it sounded like just from the wood. I have to say I dont like the abraxas too much though, it just seems too thick  :?

I really liked your guitar Bob, the Abraxas came out as fat but bright, not too thin. Good midrange, sort of like the VHIIs in my PRS just more power. Great sustain from a bolt on too!

I thought it sounded totally different to your VHII's! The VHII were brighter and crunchier in my eyes (ears?)

What I meant was the Abraxas sounds like a high output hot VHII, it's got the vintage vibe still, just more power.

The sustain comes from those six screws, they give a massive clamping load. The neck is also an interference fit in the body and the screw holes in both the neck and body are countersunk on the joint faces to help give uniform loading across the joint face and not just around the holes. Of course top class hardware and tonewoods help a lot as well.

Thanks I'm really grateful for all the comments, the guitar is being used at a couple of gigs this weekend so I'll get to hear it used in anger, with the Abraxas, then.
