Any wine drinkers out there?

Got a really cheap bottle of some kind of pinot grigio from asda last night, was about £4 :lol: Didn't taste as bad as I thought it might though and it's 12%

how much do you actually drink? - you'd have to be knockin the stuff back for a change to wine to make a difference.

with reds, I find that the Spanish and Italian stuff is quite full-bodied and suits being drunk with red meat; rather than by itself.  oh, and also got to make sure its at room temp - cold/cool red wine is a no-no.  go with Aussie or Californian reds and you won't go far wrong at the £5 a bottle kind of price range.

as for whites, I like dry as possible - I've also found the French whites are by far and away the best.  I'd go with Aussie whites after that.  anything vaguely described as 'medium' or 'sweet' will taste like cider vinegar.  for whites, I'd generally stay away from anything under £6.00 - a tenner bottle of Burgandy chilled will make you smile.

I will say though, I'm no cork-sniffer and this is just my preference.

I think 90% of the stuff you get in the UK is not worth the price.
I regularly import wine from a local vineyard in southern Germany where I used to live. The 7€ bottles would retail for about 15£ easily in the UK. The people are family friends... they usually "forget" the postage :-)
I currently have only some quite expensive bottles at home which has lead to the strange thing that I am not drinking anything - they are too valuable for casual drinking.  :(

Anyway, I've been looking forward to opening this one:

There's just something in the taste of American whiskey I love... can't put my finger around it really. They taste differently - they way I want whiskey to taste. I tried a couple of Scottish whiskeys (my friend has a huge collection), but I keep coming back to JD for some reason (which is totally overpriced in the UK - I got this bottle abroad as well).
