BKP Crawler installation
« on: March 06, 2010, 09:38:54 PM »
I was finally able to install my Crawler pickups into my Ibanez prestige...I install them according to the specs but i seem to still get the ungrounded buzz. I hate to post a new topic someone asked already but i didnt find anything relevant in the search....After a while i decided to open up the back once again and take everything apart, clean the solder off the pots, the switch and redew it... when I got done this time the volume pot was making a scratchy sound and the ground "humm" went away as long as I was touching the strings or bridge... but the part that baffles me is that when i start to pluck or strum the strings(while my hand is still grounding the guitar) The Ground "buzz" is audible .. ...I hope im just making a simple mistake,, The way i have it set up is very standard , 2 pickups with a 5way switch and one tone and one volume pot....somebody please help

You might have a ground loop.  Make sure that there is only one way that the ground can get to the jack socket.  Another thing to check is that you have a ground wire to the bridge.  What pickups were you replacing?  2 humbuckers with a 5 way switch is a PRS set up, but for that to be hum free in the middle settings the magnet needs to be reversed in one pickup.
So many pickups, so little time

Before i had a dimarzio tonezone in the neck with a steves special in the bridge...with a 3way switch... the guitar came originally with the stock Ibanez V7 bridge and V8 neck with a 5 way...im actually working on it right now...Im gonna put back the 3 way and see how it works...

Not really, the was potting would need to be redone.  If you are not using the PRS split coil modes then you should be OK.
