What ever happened to these amps?

I'm considering getting one. I'm selling my Marshall JVM and I'm thinking of changing direction. The same old metal stuff just doesn't inspire me any more. I find myself listening to more melodic/ambient stuff and I find that more inspiring and interesting.

I've heard some one use the Cyber Twin before years ago but I can't quite remember how it sounded.

A good clean tone is important as well as the capacity to get great distorted tones (think Opeth type of tone)

isn't this one a cross between a trad. twin and something with amp modelling ?
I'd be dubious thinking it's something trading off the twin brand name. I had a twin about 10 years ago and
loved it for it's simplicity and it's cleans at high vol.I even loved the distortion on it.
I think in your position i'd have a normal twin and a few pedals, after all howmany tones does one need?
i've heard of some quality control issues with twins recently. Even mine went bang on the first gig, but i had no
problem exchanging it and gigged it a couple of times a week for the next 2 years.
I heard someone gigging a cyber twin this summer and thought it was lifeless, this could have been him however.
If you want a loud gigging amp normal twins are great.

As a long time '97 era ( non-Cyber ) 'Twin Amp' owner , I agree with Gordiji ; in that adding modelling onto the front of an otherwise classic workhorse, seemed like ill advised sacrilege at the time of it's release - and still does.  I have not heard a 'Cyber-Twin' in the flesh, but strongly feel that one would be far better with some well chosen / 'organic' sounding outboard F.X pedals - and letting the 'Twin' retain it's intrinsic character.   Anything else is just putting lipstick on the Mona Lisa .  :)

From clips and videos I've heard/seen the Cyber Twin isn't so much a Twin with a PCB attached but more an amp with components of different fender amps in one as well as the option of effects and some distorted sounds.

This is a pretty cool vid

Only problem I'd have with owning an actual Fender Twin would be the need for pedals. I've not come across a distortion pedal that I've actually liked. Plus my budget is £500 maximum and the Twin goes for more than that.

Cheers Elliot !  :)

I see the Cyber Twin SE  seems quite well regarded around the net - as a flexible gigging tool ,  but with it's solid state output and  cheap ( but suitably neutral sounding ) Celestions Hot 100s,  I was immediately struck how the whole characteristic 'core ' of 4 x 6L6 output valves,  heavyweight Emminence speakers ( +  a whole host of back panel connections and functions )  were sadly 'missing' .   It just seems to take all the characteristic threat , sweat and beef  out of the whole 'Twin' thing.

I appreciate  that to many folk,  those things may be a bonus  ( and of course respect your budget limitations ) - but that still profiles more like an overgrown Fender G-Dec, or a better evolved Marshall Valvestate - rather  than truly meriting the 'Twin' name.  Sorry if my dissent sounds somewhat dismissive,  but  " that isn't the girl I married" .

For the record I had last year tried a solid state Fender 'Jazz King' ( slightly modified Steel King ) - and felt that the Fender solid state output stage, failed to be either an authentic 'glassy-but-huge' sounding  Fender , nor did it do the solid state yet warm , responsive and sweet  thing as well as many other rivals.

You don't see them a lot and I think why. For clean ok, for the rest a kind of dubieus amp. Missing character, I think. I once played one and was not impressed. I would take a real twin with a pedal in front. But that's just my taste.

That looks like it has a nice combination of features Steve ; to have a nice quad of EL84 and the Accutronics Reverb unit, in a portable 40 watt package sounds sweet. I  also have had ( and continue to have ) great experiences with Emminence speakers too .  Whilst I have never owned a Hughes and Kettner,  a  Bass player I knew had a H&K rig as his 'main squeeze' - and his sound was very nice, especially when gigging.

All the best in your search;  have fun !  :)

I own a Statesman Quad and use it for practice/rehearsels. For it's price you really can't go wrong. It has a great Marshall-esque overdrive, especially with the boost engaged. It roars and can be damned loud. The clean channel is ok, but no match for my Orange Rockerverb 50 head (6V6's) into 2x12 cab. The Eminence-speaker does a great job in the H&K, no muddiness or fluffy low freqencies. This amps sounds great with P90's, I experienced. It's a really good grab & go-tubeamp and way better made then all the cheap tube-amps from China. Had no problems with it (I own this one for two years), so it should be reliable.

had a 99' twin the one thats nearly 3 channel (not as sort after as normal older ones) but that would blow the cyber out of the water in sound touch sensativity etc
