What restrictions are there with vertical cabs?
« on: May 29, 2011, 09:35:16 AM »
I am thinking of getting a vertical 2x12 made and would be wanting it to be 25" long and 9.5" deep so that it matches the size of my SLO clone.

Is there a restriction in how much baffle you can add and if there is a tonal trade off because of this.

I really don't require a 4x12 but if the extra baffle is going to have a negative impact i will just go that route.

Thanks guys

More baffle will make the cab nearer to an ideal infinite baffle, which will extend bass response, all things being equal.

Perhaps more pertinently a larger baffle implies a larger cab and a greater internal volume which will reduce the resonant frequency of the cab.

The thickness will also have an impact. The thicker and sturdier the more metal, the lighter and more resonant the more woody/vintage. Similar to comparing an ENGL cab to a Fender Bassman cab.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
