nice guitars (if the, er, two i've tried were anything to go by)

however (as i've said before, i'm well aware this is broken record time  ), they're a lot dearer than they used to be with the strong yen. and it's worth pointing out that they're not 100% MIJ, they're started off in china and finished in japan. Which goes some way to explaining why they appear to be better value than japanese-made tokais and the like. I'd also say they maybe don't have quite the "mojo" of the 100% MIJ stuff- that may well be psychological, but in my defence, I thought that when I initially got my edwards, when I still thought they were 100% MIJ. They're maybe a wee bit "clinical", for want of a better word (granted some players think that about all MIJs, lol- and I'm well aware we're maybe verging a bit close to TGP-style unfalsifiable esoteric BS claims, lol).

my own personal feeling is that, being a bit miffed that I bought mine thinking it was 100% MIJ notwithstanding, if you can get them for around the price they used to go for (£400-£500) they're very nice guitars. I wouldn't pay £800 for one. that's just me, of course.

In this pricerange I would look at a good (used) Gibson LP Studio too.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I agree with all of the above, although the "made in China, completed in Japan" thing doesn't bother me!

Like Dave, I'm repeating what I've said elsewhere, but I like the fact that Edwards come standard with quality Gotoh hardware and genuine Seymour Duncan USA pickups.  The mahogany (or equivalent) they use tends to be nice and light in weight, and the bodies are often one-piece.  All very impressive for the price-range.

As I've also mentioned elsewhere, the last couple of Edwards guitars I've owned had skinnier necks than older ones, which has put me off a bit, to the extent that I'd probably favour a Japanese Tokai over a new Edwards.

I did have an Edwards "Jeff Beck" LP a few years back, which in retrospect was a very good guitar and I really wish I hadn't sold it.  It did turn up again on eBay and I would've bought it back, but the price went too high.

On the LP Custom models specifically, Edwards do have one really big selling point - genuine ebony fingerboards!  You won't find that on a Tokai for much less than £1,500.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Yeah I was looking at one of the picture threads and I Saw quite a few of them and they looked great. Obviously I've never played one though.

I do have an epiphone LPC that is decent and I got it for a steal but it is nowhere near my real Gibson les Paul. I would think the Edwards would be a lot nicer than the epi.

I wouldn't. The current LP Studio is hollowed out and doesn't feel or sound quite like it should.
If you can find an older one, then yeah.

I have two Edwards LPs, the Sykes model and the ALS125. They both feel different from my Gibsons in a couple of ways. Edwards uses small vintage style frets, for one. And the ALS 125 feels like it's not really full size but rather 98% of the size of the real thing. That being said, both play wonderfully and both sound like Les Pauls, so I'm not complaining.

I'm not thrilled with anything Gibson is doing ATM, except for the rumblings about a Perry/Slash Burst reissue. I don't like their trying to put in silly features on their guitars, fretboards made of weird wood, and weight relieving them. For as much as they charge they can pick through wood and find decent, lightweight mahogany and a decent fretboard.

Never tried an Edwards, but they're supposed to be nice.

That is true. The Studo's from the nineties are usually way better and have rosewood fingerboards instead of some baked maple or whatever. I'm still looking for a Les Pauil Gem p90, but they don't come around much.

(a) I agree with all of the above, although the "made in China, completed in Japan" thing doesn't bother me!

(a) wouldn't annoy me either, *had I known before I bought it*. As it is, it's hard to avoid the conclusion that i was (slightly) conned. Doesn't make it a worse guitar or anything like that, and I dare say it's still worth what I paid for it (certainly at today's prices), but it's the principle of the thing. Definitely part of my decision-making process at the time was, "Holy shite that's a killer price for a japanese-made guitar with duncans and gotoh hardware!" I dare say it's the thing that made me take the plunge, and I don't like being convinced to buy something by false information.

(b) good points :)

If anything does come up, you'll probably land a bargain.  I lost loads of money on the last two Edwards guitars I sold.  :(

At least you're not one of those losers who try to charge out the @ss for their cr@p.

Hmmmm, I dunno..... I may try, but I don't succeed.  :|

It's true that, due to a combination of impatience and realism, I won't list anything for the same high price week after week after week like some eBay sellers do.

I got 2 Edwards LPC, and they are superb.

My bandmait got an ESP LP and Gibson LP Standard, cost 3 times more than my Edwards did,
and they are not better in anything than my Edwards.

My Edwards LPC by Navigator is the most resonant guitar i ever played,
incredible sustain and build quality...
